From Pastor Janice Kuder Dear friends, I want to address two common mis-conceptions that people have about Christian faith: ONE MISCONCEPTION—that my salvation in Christ is a CONTRACT [a legal agreement between two parties]. The terms of the ‘salvation contract’ are: MY PART: I say [confess with my mouth] that Jesus is Lord, and I be-

lieve in my heart that God raised him from the dead. “If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” [Romans 10:9] I keep up my end of the contract by being as good as I can and believing the right things. GOD’S PART: He takes me to heaven when I die.

But our Christian faith and salvation are supposed to be about eternal life that begins NOW and then continues in heaven after our physical death. It’s not just an ‘Eternity Fire-Insurance Poli-cy’ as this contractual view seems to say. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—[Ephes. 2:8] We are saved by the grace of God through our faith in Him—we’re good Lutherans!—we know this! But biblical FAITH is more than just having the right beliefs [mental convictions]—even the devil believes in God and be-lieves all the right things about God. FAITH is a willingness to ACT on those mental convictions [which the devil won’t do, but hopefully, we will!]. A contract is a legal arrangement between people who don’t trust each other. So you create a contract and you both trust in the legal document and its terms. Our relationship with God, on the other hand, is a COVENANT, not a contract. A covenant is a pledge of trust that involves the two parties involved giving fully of themselves. In a covenantal relationship, people place their trust in each other, not in the binding force of a contract. God’s relationship with people is always covenantal, and thus our relationship with Christ’s Body [the church/ fellow Christians]

Spring Clean-Up Day Volunteers are needed

(ladies, men, families, youth), to help beautify the church grounds. Spring clean-up will be on Saturday,

May 11, 9 a.m. Anyone who is able to help is asked to bring rakes, shovels, blowers and gloves. You’re help will be greatly appreciated.

Artist Needed The Youth Group Fundraiser was a big success in February

so we are looking to do another in June. The Youth Group earned about $600 with only about 4 hours of easy work. Cindy Fannin did a great job as our leader but when she agreed to February it was never our intention to lock her in to helping us forever more. So.. we are looking for someone who can

hold a paint brush, follow the steps we found online and just be a basic guide. By no means are we looking for a Bob Ross, just someone who can give the next step. The idea is to be laid back and let the artists be creative. If you or anyone you know might be able to donate four hours to this great cause, please let me know. It would be just a one time commitment. Contact Krista Enoch for further information.

or solid colors (no white) The following items are needed for the Baby Care Kits: Shirts - 12-24 month

(no onesies) Sleepers - 12-24 month

Misconception (Continued from Page 2)

is also covenantal. ANOTHER MISCONCEPTION: My Christian faith is a PRI-VATE matter. Our faith in God is incredibly personal—his love for us is in-credibly personal. He thinks you, in all your uniqueness, are of unsurpassed worth! Our faith is PERSONAL, but it’s NOT PRIVATE. We are meant to live it and speak it PUBLICLY every day, in all that we do.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all

Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." [Acts 1:8] Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits--

[Psalm 103:2] We need to be Jesus’ witnesses, as we remember all that God has done in us and for us individually, we need to be ready and willing to share that with other people. We all need to occasionally give our witness or testimony of what God has done in our lives and how we’ve responded to that. It doesn’t have to be dramatic or earth-shattering—it just has to be YOUR STORY. We’ve all got a testimony because we all have a story of how God has been active in our life [we wouldn’t be part of the church if that wasn’t true!] Yours in Christ’s love,

Pastor Janice
