TRIDUUM TO ST THERESA – SEPTEMBER 29th, 30th & OCTOBER 1st
“The greatest saint of modern time.” St. Pius X
This famous statement of Pope Pius X—himself a great saint—was prophetic. When he paid Theresa Martin this extraordi-nary tribute, she had not yet even been beatified! But in a few short years, Catholics all over the world would come to know exactly what he meant. That an unknown French girl, born in a small, insignificant village, would become one of the best-loved saints in the Church, is a phenomenon that cannot be explained in human terms. That she became, with St. Francis Xavier, the patron saint of all missionaries, and the secondary patron of France with St. Joan of Arc, is truly a inspirational study for all believers. Join us for three days of prayer to honor this great and humble saint of our time, and draw closer to God. Mass each evening
at 7:00 P.M. Confessions before Mass on Tuesday and Wednesday. There will be Communal Anointing of the Sick on Thursday evening. This Sacrament gives healing, strength
and the grace of Jesus Christ to its afflicted members. Any Catholic who is seriously ill, weakened by old age, chronically
ill, or facing surgery, should receive this Sacrament.
RITE OF ACOLYTE – SATURDAY OCTOBER 3 Bishop Mark Bartchak will call Permanent Deacon candidate Mark Komula to the Rite of Acolyte on October 3, 2020 at the 5:00 Mass at the Cathedral in Altoona. Please continue your pray-ers for Mark as he completes another important step on his jour-ney toward Ordination to the Diaconate.
The acolyte is appointed in order to aid the deacon and to minis-ter to the priest. It is his duty therefore to attend to the service of the altar and to assist the deacon and the priest in liturgical cele-brations, especially in the celebration of Mass … He may also, to the extent needed, take care of instructing other faithful who on a temporary basis are appointed to assist the priest or deacon in li-turgical celebrations by carrying the missal, cross, candles, etc., or by performing other such duties. He will perform these functions more worthily if he participates in the Holy Eucharist with in-creasingly fervent devotion, receives nourishment from it, and deepens his knowledge about it.
ANOINTING OF THE SICK October 1, (closing of the St. Theresa Triduum) WHO MAY BE ANOINTED
1. Those whose health is seriously impaired by sickness or
old age.
2. Elderly people who have become notably weakened, even
though no serious illness is present.
3. Before surgery.
4. Those who have been anointed recently if their condition
continues. Those who suffer from chronic illnesses or mental illness at any age.
THEY’VE BEEN THERE FOR US, NOW LET’S BE THERE FOR THEM.
The Diocesan Priests’ Medical and Retirement Collection is the perfect opportunity to thank our active and retired priests who have served our spiritual needs throughout the years. Perhaps a priest baptized your infant daughter or administered your son’s first Holy Communion. Did he forgive and comfort you in the confessional or witness your marriage vows? Maybe he held the had of your loved one as the Lord called them home. Throughout our lifetime, our priests have been there for us. Now, let’s be there for them. Many of our priests have reached a senior status in our diocese. Because of the shortage of active priests, many retirees have graciously continued their service by celebrat-ing Mass, comforting the sick, and visiting the homebound. Our Priests receive modest retirement pensions and medical cov-erage primarily funded by parish assessment. No longer receiv-ing support from a parish, they become responsible for their hous-ing and necessary living expenses. This annual collection will help ease the financial burden of parishes and allow us to thank our dedicated priests. Please support our diocesan priests with the envelope provided by your parish or donate online at www.dioceseaj.org. Individuals interested in giving appreciated stock or in making a bequest to support diocesan priests may contact the Development Office at 814-695-5577. Thank you for your prayers and your thoughtful generosity! Envelopes are in your packet and in the pews.
TRIDIUUM OF ST. THERESE OF THE CHILD JESUS will be held on Tues.-Wed.-Thurs., Sept. 29-30 & Oct. 1 at St. Peter’s to honor this great saint. Mass each evening at 7PM. Confessions before Mass on Tuesday and Wednesday. You are invited to participate in the Communal Anointing of the Sick on Thursday evening. This Sacrament gives the heal-ing strength and grace of Jesus Christ to its afflicted members. Any Catholic who is seriously ill or weakened by old age should receive this Sacrament. We hope all parishioners will make every effort to attend the Triduum. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

STEWARDSHIP SEPTEMBER 20, 2020 COLLECTION
Stewards of God’s gifts are no passive beneficiaries According to today’s Gospel parable, putting into practice a life of discipleship and stewardship is what counts, “actions speak louder than words.” We are obliged to be stewards of the Church, collabora-tors and cooperators in continuing the redemptive work of Jesus Christ, which is the Church’s essential mission. This mission, proclaiming and teaching, serving and sanctifying, is our task. It is the personal responsibility of each one of us as stewards of the Church. All members of the church have their own roles to play in carrying out its mission: parents , parishioners, all Catholics as members of diocesan families, and to the Universal Church. Try to make an action plan to fulfill your role as we enter into fall.
