We share in [Jesus’] sufferings in order that we may also share in
his glory.
Romans 8:17
A REASON FOR SUFFERING
A man once came across the cocoon of an Emperor Moth. He took it
home. In time he began to see movement inside. The moth was
getting ready to emerge.
But there seemed to be a problem. The moth struggled and struggled,
but it appeared that the moth was having great trouble breaking
through the cocoon. The struggle continued, and still the moth could
not break through. Finally, the man had an idea. “I’ll save this moth a
lot of trouble,” he thought.
He took a scissors. And with the scissors he carefully snipped the
bottom of the cocoon so that the moth could get out. As soon as he
did, the moth slipped out easily.
But then, the man noticed something. He noticed that the moth had a
large, swollen body and small, shriveled wings. The man thought, “No
problem. In a few hours the fluid will go from the body into the wings
and the moth will be fine.”
But the moth was not fine. Because the man had cut short the time of
struggle inside the cocoon, the wings never got a chance to get
strong. The wings remained withered. The moth never flew.
When the Lord allows us a time of suffering in which to struggle, he
does it for a reason. One of his purposes is to keep us close to him,
his Word, his love and forgiveness. For when we do, his Holy Spirit
strengthens us. He seasons our faith. He reinforces our bond with
Christ. And when that happens, our Christian lives can take flight. We
can touch the lives of others with the gospel. We can do the
wonderful things the Lord intends for us to do.

habits with your values. It’s the ideal size for
keeping in your bag for quick reference, so
every time you shop in a supermarket, you can
make an informed decision about where your

the money you spend endorses a company and
its activities, whether you are aware of it or
not. In easy to understand language, The
Guide to Ethical Supermarket Shopping
2012 offers you a practical way to make a
positive difference through your everyday
purchases. This revised edition contains

welfare, child labour, genetic engineering,
multinational ownership and packaging.

sold going to the St Peters Parents & Friends).
Parents and Friends
As the cold weather comes, so too the coughs
and colds.
Could I encourage all families not to send your
children to school if they are sick. Children
have an amazing capacity to pass on their
unwanted bugs to others.
In the interests of keeping our community as
healthy as possible please do not send your
children back to school until they are well
again.
Keep them home...
LLL Banking
Please remember to send your child/ren’s
passbooks to the office, so they can be sent off
to the LLL office in North Adelaide to have
interest added.
Special Food Day Thank you to our fabulous Special Food Day
Coordinators and all their fantastic helpers for
our chicken subs for lunch today. The children
really enjoy these special food days and we
very much appreciate the effort that goes in to
organising such events. Thank you.

Inquiry Learning
An important part of inquiry learning is sharing knowledge with
others. On Friday, the year 4/5’s shared their knowledge of
“Exploration has changed lives and influences the ways
people interact with each other, the environment and
resources” with the school community in the form of a
Gallery walk in the Big Room. The students chose a form of
exploration that interested them and had the opportunity to
ask their own questions, as well as some questions from the
teacher, and find out the answers. What resulted was an array
of posters, dioramas, banners all addressing the central idea.
The students used their creativity to present their answers and
initiate action with costumes, book marks, poems, model and
slogans. Well done to everyone involved. The standard was
extremely high and the students showed they are very
knowledgeable and great little inquirers. What fantastic
preparation for the year 6/7 Exhibition!

School Car Parks can be very dangerous places and, to keep all of our students as safe as we possibly can,
we have procedures in place for parents to follow. All of these procedures are clearly outlined in
Attachment B of the Parent Information Handbook 2012, which all school families have received.
These procedures are in place not only to minimise cars reversing and pedestrians in the car park at this
very busy time, but also to make the process as efficient as possible for those people collecting their
children at this busy time.
Please abide by the procedures in place, being respectful of others at all times.
Detailed below are a few reminders in relation to the pick-up procedure:
It is imperative that you are on time. Please do not come early or late.
Displaying your family name on the left hand side sun visor assists teachers to have children ready to
get into the car when you come along.
Pick-ups will be in batches of six cars. The first six will line up nose to tail, parallel to the school
path. (Signs designate the six car zone.)
Once the cars have stopped, students are to move quickly into their car, preferably using the left
hand side doors and without the driver getting out if possible.
Once all six cars have moved on, the next six need to drive into the drive-through zone with the
lead car ensuring they move all the way to the front, and the procedure repeats.
It is vital that students are ready to leave and are in their family groups. Please encourage your
children to realize the importance of this.
We also remind you of the following Rules we have in place for picking up students:
The drive-through zone is not to be used for waiting for students. If your child has not arrived, you
can either:
move on with your batch of six cars (without your children) and line up again at the end of
the line; OR
park in the parking bays facing Trevor Terrace.
Students are not permitted to walk unaccompanied to or from a parked car. Drivers will need to
leave their car and walk over to get their children.
Cars will not be able to pass each other if they are using the drive-through zone. Each car must
wait for the car in front to move forward.
Please respect the instructions of teachers who are managing the pick-up area and, remember, the drive-
through pick-up is not the time or place to be having conversations with a teacher or another parent.

Toolbox Parenting
Hot Tip
Let the choices do the work
Nagging, pleading, and reminding a child very
rarely gets results. Let simple choices do the
work for you. Don’t get frustrated; just get a
plan. If it’s battles over bringing out the
lunchbox and notices after school, then make
sure afternoon tea is only served to those who
have done it. Perhaps older children aren’t
picking up their clothes and belongings around
the house? Deduct a small amount of pocket
money for each item and they will probably get
a lot tidier very quickly.
The key is to present these choices simply.
Try, “You can choose between bringing your
lunchbox out to the kitchen, and then we can
have afternoon tea. Or you can choose not
to.” A harsh or vengeful tone will undo the
positive atmosphere really fast. Let the power
struggles go and children will learn to make
good choices.
After all, our main role in parenting is to help
our children learn how to make healthy
choices as they become more and more
independent.
God bless your parenting.

The Sunday Mail City-Bay fun run is the biggest
race of the year. Thousands of people participate
in the run from the City of Adelaide to Glenelg
(12km/6km/3km).
This year the 40th City-Bay run will be held on
Sunday 16 September.
We currently have a squad of dedicated runners
who have just begun their training. Training is on
Monday and Wednesday mornings before school.
We meet in the front office at 8am. If you are
interested in joining our training squad feel free
to come along or see Mrs Rawinski for more
information.
If you are planning to do the City-Bay but are
training elsewhere or are not able to join us for
training sessions we invite you to register as part
of the St Peters team. Last year we had over 20
members in the St Peters team. Registering with
the team just means you are running as part of
our community you still run your own race as
normal (we won’t be holding you back).
Members of the St Peters team are able to
purchase a City-Bay running top to wear at
training and on the day. Shirts are available to try
on in the front office and orders need to be in by
Friday 22 June.
Information on how to register as part of the
St Peters team will be coming soon.
So dust off those sneakers and get moving.

Still great value at $65 per book. If you have
purchased a book before, you will know the
great value and savings that it gives. You would
only need to use the book three times to get
your money back and then after this you save,
save, save. A great gift idea. Ask your friends,
relatives, work colleagues! Books are available
now at the School Office Reception. If you
want to know more, contact Olive Fairclough
on telephone 8278 7947.
