Slow it Down
Does the year just seem to get faster and faster from this point? I
read this the other day. It reminded me that in the business of life why
we need to sometimes just slow it down..
"Have you ever noticed that Jesus never seemed to be in a hurry. We never
see him hustling from place to place or doubling up his schedule. He was
never running behind. In fact we never seeing him running anywhere for that
matter. But we do see him walking. We see him sitting down by a well or
teaching his disciples. We see him reclining at meals and sleeping in storm-
tossed boats. When you think about it, hurrying is not Christ-like at all.
More often than not, hurry is the enemy of spiritual intimacy. It is also
seldom conducive to good relationships, marriages, families, work and to
anything that ultimately matters to us. So, it's not surprising - though a world
apart from the harried, breathless mindset we so often exhibit - to learn that
the Lord would want to lead us to 'green pastures' and 'still waters'. For like
sheep we don't always know when to rest. Left to ourselves we keep on
going until we are exhausted. And yet the more hurried our pace, the less
we will truly experience our 'shepherd'. He knows we can't cultivate good
character and affections when we are constantly on the run, in the red and
at high RPMs. Intimacy with God, and others, requires time, stillness, waiting
and focussed attention.
So expect him to take you to those restful places, not to make you less
productive but to renew your perspective, remind you what really matters,
refresh your soul, slow down your racing pulse and send you out to serve
with joy. Even with all the things we have to do, there are green pastures
and still waters within reach. Let him lead you there today."
He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still
waters - Ps 23:2

As you are aware, as part of our Bushfire
Action Plan, we have a system of notifying
parents and caregivers by text message of
impending school closure due to catastrophic
fire day conditions, as well as sending advice
and updates in the event of reaching Phase 2
(or beyond) of the Bushfire Action Plan. This
texting system is also used to forward urgent
and important messages to families at other
times, if required.
To test this service, we sent a ‘test text’
yesterday (Wednesday 5 November) to ensure
this system is operating effectively.
Please notify the front office as soon as
possible if your family did not receive a
text message or if there were any
problems with the communication.
Thank you.

Information Night
A reminder that on Wednesday
12 November, we are holding an Information
Night around our BYOD programme.
Although the session is intended for the
families of students moving into Year 3 next
year, it is also open for any parents to attend.
We will meet in the School's Resource Centre
from 7.00 until about 8.00pm.
Please come along if you would like to!
Committee Members
Next year the school is seeking two or three
willing volunteers to look after the school's
second-hand uniform shop.
Some of our long serving members are moving
on as their children are completing their time
here at St Peters.
If this is a way you feel you could serve our
community please contact Mark to discuss
what is involved.
It would be great to get a new committee in
place before the year is out so we can
transition more successfully.
Uniform Committee Family Service Everyone is warmly invited to attend this
Sunday’s Family Service at 10am, where
Rooms 9 & 10 (Mrs Jakube’s/Mrs Holmes’ and
Miss Davies’ classes) will have special

Perspective
Perspective – What are the points of view?
Teaching perspective to students means asking them to step
outside of their own worldviews, which by nature is very
egocentric, and see the world through other people's eyes.
Perspective is the understanding that knowledge is moderated
by perspective, that different perspectives lead to
interpretation, understandings and findings and that perspective
may be individual, group, cultural or disciplinary. Making the PYP
happen pg. 19
Reading a novel or a well-chosen picture book is a great way
to help students develop an awareness of other peoples'
perspectives because it allows for conversations about the author's perspective, narrator's
perspective, and other characters' perspectives. With a great novel, students will immerse
themselves in the world of the characters, and can compare how they would react to a
situation versus how the character reacts to the situation which will further help them
understand perspective based on circumstances, background and influences.
The following questions may be helpful for you as parents when reinforcing the concept of
PERSPECTIVE at home.
What is my point of view?
What is it based on?
Are there other differing opinions?
Does my point of view differ from that of others?
Are these points of view supported by evidence?
Could you interpret that information in any other way?
Can you see what the others person’s perspective might be?
Room 5 and 6 in their 'How we express' unit this term are focussing on perspective
through media and advertising. This unit will be a great opportunity to ask some of these
questions and more!

Dear Parents
Next year (2015), we are undertaking our
second Evaluation of the Primary Years
Programme (PYP). As part of this process,
we are conducting a thorough review of
everything we do here at St Peters relating to
the delivery of the PYP. As a part of this, we
are asking for your feedback. Attached to
this newsletter is a survey about the PYP
curriculum at St Peters. We welcome your
feedback and ask that you spend 10 minutes
filling out the Google form. The
questionnaire asks you to rate your response
to each statement as:
Low—If the practice is not evident at the school
Middle—If the practice is being developed in
the school
High—If the practice is evident and embedded
in the school.
Don't know—if you don't have the
information to rate the practice.
If you are unsure, please just mark the
question 'don't know' and move quickly to
the next statement.
Sincere thanks for your ongoing support.
