The Integrity of Crea on

In the beginning, God called everything good. Light and darkness, water and land, plants and animals, man and woman. Crea on was designed to be ..…well, a paradise. Adam wasn’t the lion tamer, he was the gardener. That perfect harmony between humans and the natural world is something we long for …we seek it fishing, hiking, camping, or on walks through the park. We look for it in our flowerpots and in our rela onships with pets. When we vote for clean-air, conserve water, recycle our cans, send money to plant trees in Hai ..we are acknowledging that, somewhere along the way, we have failed in our original pact with nature and we want to make amends.

As we listen to the Noah story let’s look for the bo om line: that God can destroy crea on but that God promises not to. God establishes a covenant with living things, people and animals alike. Wholesale demoli on is not what the world was created for, and God, even more so than us, wants to see another solu on to the problem of sin.

Lent 4.2 “FOOD”

When I first read this week’s bulle n insert, I must admit that I was taken back by the phrase “Ea ng is a moral act.” How o en do we see our food as “gi s of God’s crea on”? And yet our meal prayer con nually reminds us of that “..and these thy gi s”.

La Integridad de Creación

En el principio, Dios dijo que todo es bien. Luz y oscuridad, agua y erra, plantas y animals, hombre y mujer. La creación fue designado a ser …pues, un paradiso. Adán no tuvo que amansar el león, él fue un gardi-nero. Esa harmonía entre los seres humanos y la naturaleza es algo que anhelamos ..la buscamos al ir a pescar, en el excursionismo, campamentos, paseos. La buscamos en las flores y en las relaciones con nuestros masco-

tas. Cuando votamos en favor de aire limpio, con-servación de agua, el reciclaje, o enviar dinero a Hai para la siembra de árboles, estamos reconociendo que hemos fallado en la alianza original con la natura-leza y que buscamos reconciliarnos.

Al escuchar la historia de Noé, busquemos el punto clave: que Dios puede destruir la creación pero promete no hacerlo. Dios establece una alianza con todo ser viviente, personas y animals. El mundo no fue creado para luego destruirlo, y Dios, mucho más que nosotros, quiere que haya otra solución al prob-lema del pecado del ser humano.

Cuaresma 4.2 “COMIDA”

Cuando leí la hoja en el bole n para esta semana, tengo que admi r que fue sorprendido por la frase “Comer es un acto moral.” ¿Veamos a nuestra comida como un “don de la creación de Dios”? La oración en inglés para bendecir los alimentos lo dice: “..y estos sus regalos”.

Development Corner The late 2017 tax law changes may have made a gift to a charitable organization such as your parish from an IRA, an even more attractive option for some people over the age of 70½. In general the new law does not change the rules for charitable deductions, but because the new tax law nearly doubled the standard deduction, fewer people will itemize deductions – and you can only deduct charitable contributions if you itemize. Further-more, the new law limits some itemized deductions, potentially making it harder to reach that threshold for itemizing. The rules regarding a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA also did not change from what they were prior to the end of 2017, and because making a QCD does not require a donor to itemize deductions, this may prove to be an even more valuable financial management tool in 2018 and beyond. proclaiming the gospel of God….” - M 1:14

Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had just been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken great love and trust for Jesus to do what the

Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a life of stewardship takes great love and trust from us. We must be willing to surrender

completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfill His plan for us.

BECAS PARA LOS MIEMBROS DE DACA -NWTC ofrece becas a estudiantes del último año de la preparatoria, los cuales no pueden aplicar a FAFSA (por motivos de DACA, indocumentados, estudiantes internacionales, etc.) pero quieren inscribirse en una
