Dear friends,
As priest and presider my role in the reading of the Passion of the Lord is that of Jesus, but for most of my life I have been in
the role of the crowd. I have always found it so difficult to cry out “Crucify Him!”
I don’t want to acknowledge that by choosing sin, I am indeed choosing death…the death of the Lord. However, each of us
must acknowledge this if we are to receive the redemption which comes to us from His death on the Cross. Only when we
have acknowledged our own sinfulness and culpability are we open to the saving grace of His mercy. We cry out, no matter
how much we love the Lord, no matter how earnestly we seek His mercy, because we have been there among that crowd.
Today marks the beginning of the most holy week in the life of the Church. The Triduum, the 3 days in which we recollect
the Passion, Death, and Resurrection and celebrate anew the Paschal Mystery, are the most important days of our year.
Come join us for the Mass of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday, for the Passion of the Lord on Good Friday, and the
Vigil Mass of Easter on Holy Saturday.
Each of these is unique in its own way. On Holy Thursday, we have the Washing of the Feet and the Reception of the Holy
Oils which were blessed by the Bishop at the Chrism Mass on Tuesday at the co-Cathedral and we conclude with Adoration
of the Blessed Sacrament in its place of repose. On Good Friday, we have the Reading of the Passion of the Lord according
to John, the Solemn Intercessions, and Adoration of the Cross. The fact that the Vigil Mass of Easter starts with a bonfire
should be a clue that this is a celebration of the Mass like no other.
May your Holy Week be truly holy.
Fr. Joe
St. Pius V Catholic Church April 9, 2017
Queridos amigos,
No quiero reco-
Fr. Joe

Living Our Faith from the Office of Parish Social Ministry Branches of Palm and a variety of other local trees are a symbol of victory and hope, as well as of new life. Jesus was treated that
way when he entered Jerusalem but in a couple of days, the same people cried for him to be crucified. They discovered that their
expectation of being liberated from Roman rule did not happen, instead they are told by Jesus to carry their own Cross. When He
carried his own Cross and called us to do the same, he truly liberated us from sin and death, but not from the Romans.
It is the end of Lent 2017. Has my Lenten sacrifice prepared me to carry my Cross? Has it led me to discover my giftedness, hope,
and led me to the resolution to be a true disciple of Christ. Am I now truly able and willing to feed the hungry, clothe the naked,
house those seeking shelter from oppression and poverty? Are we now able to see past our own need or are we still holding God to
our expectations?
We are in need of helpers in the Food Pantry. Several of our regular volunteers are not able to be here for the near future, Can you
come and help? We need the volunteers for Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:45 to 12:45PM specially on Thursdays, April 13 and
27 (these days we need you at 9AM) Come and join us!
cercano, ¿Pueden venir a ayudarnos?
¡Ven y únete a nosotros!

Palm Sunday of the Lord's Passion
At The Procession With Palms -- Gospel MT 21:1-11
When Jesus and the disciples drew near Jerusalem and came to Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, Jesus sent two
disciples, saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find an ass tethered, and a
colt with her. Untie them and bring them here to me. And if anyone should say anything to you, reply, ‘The master
has need of them.' Then he will send them at once." This happened so that what had been spoken through the
prophet might be fulfilled: Say to daughter Zion, "Behold, your king comes to you, meek and riding on an ass, and
on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden." The disciples went and did as Jesus had ordered them. They brought the
ass and the colt and laid their cloaks over them, and he sat upon them. The very large crowd spread their cloaks on
the road, while others cut branches from the trees and strewed them on the road. The crowds preceding him and
those following kept crying out and saying: "Hosanna to the Son of David; blessed is the he who comes in the
name of the Lord; hosanna in the highest." And when he entered Jerusalem the whole city was shaken and asked,
"Who is this?" And the crowds replied, “This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee."
At The Mass — First Reading IS 50:4-7
The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will
rouse them. Morning after morning he opens my ear that I may hear; and I have not rebelled, have not turned
back. I gave my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who plucked my beard; my face I did not shield
from buffets and spitting. The Lord GOD is my help, therefore I am not disgraced; I have set my face like flint,
knowing that I shall not be put to shame.
Responsorial Psalm PS 22 R. My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?
Second Reading PHIL 2:6-11
Christ Jesus, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God something to be grasped. Rather,
he emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, coming in human likeness; and found human in appearance, he
humbled himself, becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Because of this, God greatly
exalted him and bestowed on him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bend, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is
Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Gospel MT 26:14—27:66

diciéndoles: "Vayan al pueblo que ven allí enfrente; al entrar, encontrarán amarrada una burra y un burrito con ella;
La Misa — Primera lectura Is 50, 4-7
Salmo Responsorial Salmo 21 R. Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado?
Segunda Lectura Flp 2, 6-11
