eficaz Adviento!

Advent is here! The term is derived

from the Latin word, Advenire, which translates “to arrive” or “come to.” Advent recalls God’s first coming in Christ’s birth and looks toward his return at the end of time. For this reason, Advent has a twofold character, for it is a time of preparation for the Solemnities of Christmas, in which the First Coming of the Son of God to humanity is remembered, and likewise a time when, by reembrace of this, minds and hearts are led to look forward to Christ’s Second Coming. Consequently, Advent is a period of devout and expectant delight. Because of that expectant delight we do not sing the Gloria, except on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception (December 08) and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe (December 12). We do profess the Creed on the Sundays of Advent and the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. ‘It is a season of repentance and of prayers for reconciliation. The whole Advent period speaks about Jesus coming as Word, hand extended to sinners and way of true peace.’ (Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Roman Calendar).

On behalf of the entire Staff at St. Rita’s we wish you a fruitful Advent

season!

The Church says that the first catechists of the children are the parents.

In the Christian oxygen of the home is where the children become Christians. Therefore, it is necessary for parents to live the Catholic faith, to know Christian doctrine, to frequent the sacraments, to read with their children the Word of God, to cultivate Catholic morals and to pray with their children at home. Saint Paul told the Romans that "faith comes from preaching". "How will they believe in the one they have not heard? How will they hear without being preached to them? "(Rm 10, 14.17). It is by hearing the Christian teachings of parents that children are indoctrinated in the faith. It is in the arms of the mother and the father that the children learn to believe in God, to respect all that is sacred, to pray the Rosary, to love the Virgin, the angels and the saints. In the moments of conviviality, at the time of eating, in the talks, in the walks, the parents must take advantage to shape the faith and behavior of their children according to the faith of the Church. It is in the home that the child needs to learn with the parents what is the character, honesty, justice, love, purity, kindness, detachment, humility, to always tell the truth, to work. In short, the home must be the first school of virtue and good values. A spoiled son, he is a libertine "(v.8). Educators are unanimous in saying that people educate their children much more by example than by words. Then, parents should take all the care with their behavior towards their children. If the father lies, the son will learn to lie; if the father swears, the child will repeat them, if the mother is lazy and careless, the daughter will imitate her, if the parents pray, the children will pray, naturally, without difficulty. The basis of everything is the family. The son has the right to have a father, a mother, a home, be loved and educated with all love.

St. Rita Parish

This study has four sessions, incorporating an introductory session and 3 lessons. The Study Set includes a Study Guide by Jerome Kodell, OSB, and a commentary, Advent of the Savior, by Stephen J. Binz. It focuses on the opening chapters of Matthew and Luke, the only gospels which describe the wondrous events surrounding the birth of the Messiah. This study also explores the many significant connections these two gospels make between the Old Testament and the birth of the Savior. Rich insights will be made as these two gospels are opened to reveal the special contribution each makes to our understanding of Jesus' nativity. Deepen your longing for the Messiah's coming again and ask God to be Emmanuel, “God with us.”
