GOSPEL SUMMARY

Jesus set for his followers a three-step procedure for reconciling differences among the community. In the first step we are told to go one-on-one to the per-son and try to work out the problem. If that doesn't work, we are to take some witnesses, or in the final case, bring the offender before representatives of the Church. If reconciliation does not occur in the end, there is nothing more we can do and are told to walk away from the person.

REFLECTION FOR FAMILIES

Reconciling differences is one of the most challenging jobs of parenthood. When our children jump immediately to step three (we sometimes call it tattling), we need to remind them and guide them through the first steps. Our children need to see us model this as well. How often do we fly off the handle and accuse someone of wrongdoing rather than approach him/her rationally. When our children see us calmly, but firmly, address someone, naming the infraction and saying how the action made us feel, they learn that there are other ways besides hostile confrontation to work out differences.

VOCATION AWARNESS September 10 2017

Twenty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts”

Each of us is called by God to a specific vocation. For some it’s Marriage. For others it’s Holy Orders or conse-crated life. And for some, it’s the single missionary life. Discerning our vocation requires that we take time to pray and listen for the voice of the one who does the calling. When we hear His voice, may we have the courage to follow Him with an undivided heart. If you feel that God might be calling you to the vocation of priesthood, con-tact the vocations office for resources and support at

270-683-1545 and via the internet at: www.owensborovocations.com

[email protected]

“I HAVE CHOSEN YOU…” (JOHN 15:16) 2017-2018 DISCIPLES RESPONSE FUND

The 2017-2018 Disciples Response Fund campaign has begun with a mailing to all registered parishioners from Bishop Medley. All are asked to give generously in support of the important items funded by your contributions. Support of the work of our Diocese is important. There are many things that even the largest parishes cannot do on their own. For example, the Disciples Response Fund puts money into an endowment for the care of retired priests. Also, the fund assists with the expenses for the education of our seminarians and provides oper-ating income and scholarship funds for the Gasper River Catholic Youth Camp. The Gospel of John tells us that each of us has been chosen by the Lord to go forth and bear fruit that will remain. A significant contribution to the DRF is one way to reach out to many who will bear fruit. In last year’s campaign (2016-2017), the Diocese began a system of returning 50% of the dollars received, over target, to the parishes for their use. Our parish received $3,449. These dollars are assessment free and were used to pay off our building loan. If you received a letter from Bishop Medley asking for your support of the DRF, please make a generous gift today.

PARISH PICNIC:

Our St. Stephen Parish Picnic will be September 24

th..

Plan now to come and bring your family for lots of fun, good food, and friendship. There is a sign-up sheet in the Narthex for individuals to indi-cate the number attending and what they will bring.

Young Adult Holy Hour

On Monday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., St. Stephen Cathedral will host a Holy Hour for young adults ages 18-39. Priests will be available for confession during the Holy Hour. After the Holy Hour, please join us for dinner at a local restaurant. This event is sponsored by the Office of Youth & Young Adult Ministry in the Diocese of Owensboro.
