We celebrate his return to the Father. After spending 33 years among us, - He spent his time teaching, proclaiming the Kingdom of God, working miracles. In the end he suffers and dies for us. He rises from the dead and now ascends to the Father. As he returns to the Father, he leaves us in charge. We are made in God’s image and likeness, we also have the spirit and presence of God in us. It is a reality and a major challenge for all of us. The readings describe the event that we celebrate and the challenge that the Lord left with all of us. In the Acts of the Apostles, we hear of the physi- cal Ascension of Jesus to the father. Jesus says that he will not abandon us but will send the Holy Spir- it, The challenge comes from Jesus’s commission of the Eleven. He sends the Eleven into the world providing them with full authority. Jesus challeng- es them to teach them all that he has commanded. We are part of that challenge. Discipleship requires our faithful and diligent response to God’s call. Through baptism, we have been commissioned, in a real way, to assist and help others in God’s plan of salvation. Jesus has placed his trust in all of us. Let us be people of great hope and do our share to build up the kingdom of God in our world.

Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference The Diocesan Office of Youth Evangelization is sponsoring the Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference for young people in grades 9-12 the weekend of July 7-9 at Tyler’s Harvey Hall Convention Center. The theme of the weekend is Elevate 2017: Where Heaven and Earth Collide, and it will feature speakers, musicians, Mass, and prayer. Early registration runs through May 15, with a cost of $65.
