This year, the story is set against the backdrop of the first read- ing from Genesis, which recounts the very first temptation by the devil. That story is set in a gar- den of delight. The Gospel story is set in the desert. As believers, we know that temptation comes our way in our own gardens of delight as well as the deserts of our lives. “THANKS SO MUCH”!

Series on Pope Benedict's The Spirit of the Litur-gy. Don't miss the opportunity to learn about the classical work of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI about our highest form of prayer and worship. What does it mean to worship God? How ought we to understand the Liturgy? If Jesus came to bring “worship in Spirit and truth”, why do so many Christians worship in a particular place (church), at a particular time (Sundays), follow-ing a particular pattern of worship (liturgy and ritual)? Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI answers these and other important questions in his clas-sic work, The Spirit of the Liturgy. Explore his answers as theologian & teacher Mark Brumley leads a nine-session course based on The Spirit of the Liturgy. Next classes are the following dates: March 5, 12, and 19. All sessions begin @ 7:00 P.M. at Kolbe Academy-Trinity Prep, 2055 Redwood Rd., Napa. No charge. Donations gratefully accepted.

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

We will have the Adoration of the Blessed Sacra-ment on Friday, March 6th, from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Please come and join us for Adoration on this First Friday. We invite you to sign up for an hour of adoration. The sign-up sheet is on the parish bulletin board in the church hall. Please consider signing up for an hour to ensure we have every hour covered, and hopefully more than one person per hour can come. We will have the celebration of mass at 12:00pm.

BLESSED SACRAMENT ADORATION

I wanted to take the time to thank Bob Quinn and Ken Dumars for making the Annual Parish Dinner a great event. I know Bob and Ken do extensive work every year to make this dinner happen and raise funds for our parish. Thank you also to all those who donated the items to raised funds for our parish of St. Thomas. As we begin Lent, I will pray that trough our prayer, fasting and works of charity all of us will contin-ue to spiritually grow in the grace of God. May God bless all of us at St. Thomas, Fr. Abel

CATHOLIC SHARING LIBRARY Please stop in the hall after all the Masses on Saturday-Sunday, March 7 & 8, and look over all the good books available for you to borrow from the Catholic Sharing Library brought to us from St. Apollinaris Church. You may borrow as many books as you like, and when done, just drop them in the return box in the church vestibule at St. Apollinaris. Lots of good books on many topics to choose from!

Gospel: Mt 4:1-11

One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth

from the mouth of God.

R. Honor y gloria a ti, Señor Jesús. No sólo de pan vive el hombre, sino también de toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.

R. Honor y gloria a ti, Señor Jesús.

At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights, and afterwards he was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.” He said in reply, “It is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.” Then the devil took him to the holy city, and made him stand on the parapet of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written: He will command his angels concerning you and with their hands they will support you, lest you dash your foot against a stone.” Jesus answered him, “Again it is written, You shall not put the Lord, your God, to the test.” Then the devil took him up to a very high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in their magnificence, and he said to him, "All these I shall give to you, if you will prostrate yourself and worship me.” At this, Jesus said to him, “Get away, Satan! It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” Then the devil left him and, behold, angels came and ministered to him.
