Sunday’s Readings…

T he early Christians believed

that Christ’s return to earth

would be very soon: two thou-

sand years later we are still wait-

ing. This is not a reason for doubt or disappoint-

ment: Christ’s first coming was eagerly awaited

by many who never saw it, as the Old Testa-

ment bears witness. Some early Christians be-

gan to fear for those who died before Christ’s

return, but St Paul points out that all shall meet

Him, for our earthly death is not the end of life,

but a change in life. Jesus tells the story of the

five wise and foolish bridesmaids. None of them

doubted the groom’s arrival, but not all of them

were ready when it happened. Some of them

just expected everything to be all right but did

nothing to make sure it was! All Christians need

to be ready for Jesus by prayer, and acts of faith,

love and mercy. Then He will recognise us as

friends when He comes again. This is of course

a theme of Advent, that begins in a few weeks.

MISSION 2018 - 17 FEBRUARY - 4 MARCH -

PLEASE PRAY! We now have a Mission Prayer, thanks to the Mission Prayer Group. It will be used formally at all worship soon. Please begin to use it now in your own prayers.

D ear Heavenly Father we thank you for the many gifts you have given to us through

Your Beloved Son Jesus Christ, especially for our Baptism. Help us to respond to your great Love. Most Holy Spirit, grant us a new and deeper relationship with Our Lord Jesus Christ, who calls us to follow Him always. Let us rediscover the joy of knowing Jesus our Friend and Broth-er, who is so close to us in the Blessed Eucha-rist. May He show us how to be true witnesses to the Good News of the Gospel, enabling us to share His Gifts of Love, Joy and Peace. May our parish community be a beacon of Hope for all who seek the Way, the Truth and the Life. We ask Mary, the Mother of Jesus and our dear Mother, to walk with us on this journey and help us to open our hearts to receive this Love. Our Lady of Coventry, Pray for us. St Thomas More, Pray for us. “There is nothing more beautiful than to be sur-prised by the Gospel, by the encounter with Christ. There is nothing more beautiful than to know Jesus, and to speak to others of our friendship with Him”. Pope Benedict XVI

FATIMA CENTENARY Sunday 26th Nov Is the end of the Centenary Year commemorating Our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima in 1917. At St Peter’s, Leamington

Congratulations on your engage-ment! Please speak to one of the clergy in the first place to make ar-rangements for your wedding. You will need a meeting with the Parish Priest to go through all that needs to be done. About six months’ notice at least is desirable: but it’s never too soon.

Congratulations on the birth of your child! Baptism is arranged by ap-pointment. It usually happens at 12.15 p.m. on a Sunday or at either Sunday Mass. Parents should collect a form after Sunday Mass. For the baptism of children over four and of adults see the parish priest.

MAKING YOUR CONFESSION

Confession, the sacrament of recon-ciliation, is available on Saturday mornings 9.40 a.m.-10.20 a.m., on Sundays before 6 p.m. Mass and by arrangement with the parish priest. Our God is a God of mercy!
