In our EPIC study last

week, we started our

study of the Crusades. How do you put centu-

ries of fighting into three

classes. Impossible. The crusades have been mis-understood and used as a tool to discredit the

Church. In our class we have learned many inter-

esting truths that we can use to help clear up the

many misconceptions. Although no one really knows the speech of Pope Urban II, he did call all

Christians in Europe to war against Muslims in or-

der to reclaim the Holy Land, with a cry of “Deus vult!” or “God wills it!”. And thousands responded

to that first Crusade. Selling all their possessions

Christians started the Pilgrimage that would change our world. At the time the pilgrimages began over

3/4 of all Christian nations had been conquered by

the Muslims.

Next week, we continue with crusaders and schol-

ars. Come learn the truth about the crusades since

there is much misinformation being presented as factual.

Next week the color will be “Dark Blue”

We continue to study Crusaders and Scholars

Liturgy of the Word for Children

Coming up in De-

cember we will pro-

vide a special liturgy

of the word for Chil-dren (LWC). This is

for preschoolers and

on Sunday Mass they

go to a classroom after the opening prayer and return

to participate in the offertory procession.

Welcome Gracie, Kaylee and Andrew

This past Wednesday night His Excellency, Archbishop Thomas J.

Rodi came to Annunciation Parish to confer the Sacrament of Confir-

mation. We had three young people who were confirmed in the

church. Welcome Gracie, Kaylee and Andrew into full initiation of the

mysteries of Christ.

Thank to everyone who helped us celebrate this wonderful event. Re-

member to keep these three young people in your prayers.

Helping Hands Donation Drive

We will be holding a clothing and household items drive

through November to help fill Helping Hands thrift store in

Jackson Alabama for Christmas.

Helping Hands is a thrift store located in Jackson and is part of

our Catholic Charities. They have been very helpful in assist-

ing people in our area with utilities that are delinquent or have been cut off. Helping Hands is a great mission that assist peo-

ple who are experiencing hard times by giving them hope and

healing for a changed life. Profits made by the thrift store are

used to fund the efforts of Catholic Charities in Jackson and Monroeville.

This donation drive will be a great way for our church to help kids and families in need locally.

Items Needed:

Gently used clothing (men’s, women’s & children)

Small kitchen appliances (in working order)

Blankets, comforters, pillow cases (clean & in good condition)

Toys for all ages (new or used)

All items can be brought to the church and will be delivered to Jackson November 30th. Any questions

contact Peggy in the church office.

Dear Parishioners,

I have gotten to know many of you since I began attending the parish last January and I now serve as

youth minister for the parish. Aside from this, I am also a full time student at the University of South

Alabama. USA is a Focus campus, which stands for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students.

There are currently four Focus missionaries stationed on our campus that teach us to lead Bible studies,

they lead retreats and mission trips. I applied and was assigned to the mission trip in France over this

upcoming summer. What that means is I have a lot of extensive fundraising to do between now and that time. What we will be doing in France is working with the Emmanuel Community to evangelize the

Catholic faith to the people we encounter in the towns of Lourdes, Lisieux, and Paris. The current state

of Catholicism in France is very poor making France a mission country for evangelization. This mission

will provide me the opportunity to carry the love, compassion, and mercy of Christ to those me and my

team will encounter while we are there as well as to further discern God’s call in my life as I hope to

enter a religious community within the next few years. This mission is not just a mission trip, but a spiri-

tual pilgrimage as I will have the opportunity to visit the grotto at Lourdes, the convent of St. Thérèse of

Lisieux, and several cathedrals in Paris such as Notre Dame de Paris. Please prayerfully consider donat-

ing to me and my team as this is a vital part of carrying out our mission and we truly need your help! At

Focus we have the saying “Some give by going and some go by giving.” If you are interested in donat-

ing, you may contact me by simply talking to me about the mission or via email and phone.

Many Thanks,

Ethan C. Rowell

Giving

Giving liberates the soul of the giver. You never

walk away feeling badly. Whether through a tithe, charitable contribution, a gift to a friend in need, or

giving of your time it not only generates good, but it

generates contentment. Remember, no one has ever become poor by giving.

Giving or Tithing is a spiritual action. In a materialis-

tic age, it reminds us that Jesus is Lord of our lives. But it also is a spiritual offering to God. There is a reason that the collection is carried up to the

altar as part of the Liturgy of the Eucharist, and offered up with the bread and wine. Spiritually

we should offer ourselves up—our time, talent and treasure—during the offertory of each Mass.

When stewardship is discussed in parishes, the three T’s mentioned are Time, Talent, and

Treasure. But often people hear “just another talk about money.” Stewardship is the offering of our entire selves to God. We have a choice: to live self-willed lives or Christ-centered lives.

God gives us all our time, talents and treasure; we should give back to him the first fruits of

these gifts.

It is also important to remember that Christ exempts no one from giving. In the story of the

“Widow’s Mite” it is important to note that He did not reach into the Offering box and give the widow back her two small coins. When He multiplied the Loaves and Fishes He asked for all

the food that anyone had. Even the Levites or priests of the Old Testament were not exempt

from the tithe.

Giving is a concept that has created great controversy inside and outside the church. Some peo-

ple feel like tithing is a slick way for priest and dioceses to get rich. Others feel like tithing is a

problem because they don't know what their church is doing with the money. However, both arguments are false. Every priest and dioceses who is not a good steward with your gifts will

answer to God. If our priest and dioceses are abusing God's money; they will answer to Our

Lord.

If you have not committed or if you have signed a pledge card, we hope that you would or that

you will honor your Time Talent and Treasure commitment to Annunciation Catholic Parish

and St. Joseph’s Mission. It is only in this way that we can be the strongest and most vibrant presence of the Church for the needs of us all!
