OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST, KING OF THE UNIVERSE - NOVEMBER 26, 2017

Dear Parishioners and Friends:

“As o en as you did it for the least of my brothers and sisters,

you did it for me.”

The feast of Christ the King challenges us to re-evaluate our no on of power and authority. The king is one whose power lies in his love and service, one who seeks out the lost, brings back the stray, binds up the injured, and heals the sick. In the Gospel, the kingship of Christ is revealed most deeply on the cross: Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews. In His death, the king has become one of us. On this last Sunday of the liturgical year, let us pray this week that we will con nue to bear Christ to our broken world. Sincerely yours, Fr. John Sakowski

Reflec on on the Gospel

On the last Sunday of the Church year, why would we end with a celebra on of “Our Lord, Jesus Christ, King of the Universe?” The last Sunday is a very good me to pledge again our allegiance to and complete faith in Jesus Christ. It is a good me to remember that Jesus, the Son of God, rules not with earthly power and might and fear and oppression but with divine compassion

and forgiveness and peace and love. Jesus rules with a different kind of power and authority. The cross is His throne, and from there He exercises the power of God to overcome evil. He rules today, throughout all the universe for all eternity, in the same way: with the power and might of love.
