A dinosaur looks for a mat to stand

on during one of the games at the

Halloween Party on October 26th.

On Saturday, November 14th, the Pottsville Library

was transformed into a glittering, glamorous setting

for a gala party. This second annual fundraising

event was hosted by the Board of Trustees of the

Pottsville Free Public Library. Co-chairs for the eve-

ning were Cathy Cortese and Mary Ann Conway-

Gursky.

Hors d’oeuvres, wine and beer were served. The

event was catered by Cathy Repp of Beauregard's

Catering. Centerpieces were by Pod and Petal Flo-

rist. Music was performed by Atty. Tom Noonan

and Zehn Schropp, a student at Blue Mountain High

School and a Concert Master with the Gabriel Youth

Orchestra.

The event was well attended and the guests enjoyed

a lovely evening of music, food and drinks. Watch

for An Evening at the Library to be held again next

November!

An Evening at the Library

day, December 17 from 4:00-5:30.

The Christmas party is on Monday, December 21

from 6:00-7:00 and is also for ages 3-12.

sumes on Monday, January 18, with Storytime (ages 3

-5) at 10:30 and Builder’s Bonanza (ages 5-12) from

4:00-5:30.

Stay tuned for upcoming information on more pro-

upcoming programming and activities for kids.

Children’s Activities

The IRS has announced major changes to the

way they will distribute tax forms to public

libraries next year. 95% of tax filers did their

federal income tax forms online in 2015, either

at home or via a tax preparer. So the number of

forms the IRS will distribute to libraries in

2016 will be greatly reduced. The Pottsville

Free Public Library will receive the basic forms

for distribution - 1040, 1040A, and 1040EZ -

but we will not get any instruction books.

Individuals may be able to order tax forms and

instructions by visiting the IRS website (but

don’t try ordering any until January 2016).

In Memory

The Pottsville Library is saddened by the loss

of one of their employees. Barbara Kull

passed away on November 26, 2015. Barb

worked as the Children’s Room Assistant for

almost 20 years. She will be missed by the

staff and the children of the community.

We have recently transitioned to a new circulation sys-

tem. The library staff is becoming more familiar with

using it and the features it offers. Although our old

circulation system was automated, the new system is

different and the staff is still learning new things about

it. We do appreciate your patience during this process!

By now you may have noticed that our OPAC, or

Online Public Access Catalog, has a whole new look.

When you use the Online Catalog, you can log into

your account and see what materials you have checked

out and the due dates. You can also renew material or

place a hold on a book.

Logging in to the OPAC can be done from any com-

puter or device with Internet access. You will need the

barcode number from your library card. You will also

need to enter a PIN number. Your PIN number is the

last 4 digits of your phone number. You can change

your login information and your PIN number after you

have logged in if you prefer to use something other than your barcode and your phone number. Just re-

member though, once you’ve changed your PIN num-

ber, we won’t know what it is

if you forget it!

When you place a book on

hold, you have a few choices

for how you would like to be

notified when it is available. We can continue to call

you. We can send a notice to your email. Or you may

opt to have a text message to alert you that the reserve

is ready to be picked up.

You can get email reminders of when your items are

due and also email reminders if you have somehow

forgotten to return them. Please be sure we have your

correct email address for this to work.

The Library staff will no longer be able to see your cir-

culation history, but you can still check it online. After

you have logged in to your account, go to “Account

Preferences” then “Search and History Preferences.”

Check the boxes to have your history saved.

If you want a quick lesson in using the new system, stop at the Library and ask us. We will be happy to

show you!
