• 574 (2875) Employed Learners and 732 (5566) Unemployed Learners were registered in Learnerships

• 378 (1 107) Employed Learners and 649 (2255) unemployed Learners completed Learnerships

• Value of grant is R64m in 2006-2007

• R14 000 per Learner per year

• Up to R42 000 for 3 year qualifications

• MQA pays for Core Learnerships only

• 2 236 Learners targeted for training by March 2007

7 294 (165 095) employees were found competent in 2005-2006

There is no funding for employees that complete Skills Programme in this financial year (2007-2008)

74 (in excess of 5 000) employees completed Blasting Certificates and Apprenticeships

• Learning Materials Development 100 (784) Learning Materials developed for unit standard based Learnerships

ARTISAN PATHWAYS• The DoL is currently finalising the model for “Artisan Development Rates”

• The document is currently with NSA for comment

• The model proposes for routes to develop Artisans– Learnerships– Section 13 Artisans ito the Manpower Training Act (MTA)– Section 28 Artisans ito the Manpower Training Act (MTA)– DoE vocational Qualifications

• Generic Trade Tests per trade proposed at the Common Summative Assessment irrespective of the Route

• Register of practising Artisans to be established

QUALITY ASSURANCE

OPERATIONAL STATISTICS

• The MQA accreditation status as an ETQA was fully endorsed (certificated) by SAQA

• 3 (15) Memorandums of Understanding signed with ETQAs and 2 (3) Cooperation Agreements with Provincial Departments of Education

• 16 New accreditation audits were done and 14 Training Providers obtained their provisional accreditation status

• 11 (16) Training Providers obtained their full accreditation status

• 3 Programme evaluations were done at FETs sites and 2 (7) FET Colleges received programme approval from the MQA.

• As at 2006-2007, 15 432 learners were planned on ABET 1-4 programmes;

• As at 2006-2007, 7 845 learners successfully completed ABET 1-4 programmes

To train ABET Practitioners in the Mining and Mineral Sector who wish to align their current qualification to the NQF in ABET practices

Achieved: 190 ABET Practitioners trainingBudget: R6 500 000Planned: 250 Practitioners currently in training and graduation is planned for February 2008

This project was initiated to train and provide on the job experience to young unemployed graduates and diplomats in the scarce skills disciplines within the Mining and Mineral Sector

Provide funding for employees who have completed MQA registered Skills Programmes. Provide funding for the registration of 18.1 and 18.2 learners into the MQA and non-MQA Learnerships

Feedback reports circulated to other MQA managers and Board standing committees

Participate in all Provincial Forums, Workshops and Planning Sessions

COMMENT:

Don’t postpone or cancel meetings so often, this leads to unavailability of senior managers and level of participation decreases
