Notes from Here and There At the 1989 annual business meeting of the Indiana Section of the American Association for Den- tal Research, Scott Morrison, assistant professor of endodontics at Indiana University, received the Dr. Maynard K. Hine Award for Excellence in Research. This annual award is sponsored by Procter & Gamble and is given in recognition of outstanding achievement in research by a postdoctoral student. The award is named for the IUPUI Chancellor Emeritus and former dean of the dental school, Dr. Maynard K. Hine. While enrolled in Indiana University's graduate endodontic program, Dr. Morrison conducted an in vitro study of the effects of steam sterilization and usage on cutting efficiency of endodontic instruments. This study was partially funded with a grant from the Research and Education Foundation of the AAE ... Aida A. Chohayeb became the first female president of the Edward C. Penick Endodontic Study Club since its organization in 1971. Dr. Chohayeb served as presi- dent-elect, secretary and treasurer during the past three years. She also was inducted as a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, the only female from the college's District IX to receive the fellowship this year ... Ignatius N. Quartararo of New York has been named to the New York University Board of Trustees. He will serve as an alumni trustee. Dr. Quarta- taro is a 1952 graduate of NYU College of Dentistry and has taught there for 19 years as an associate professor in the Depart- ment of Endodontics. He is also chief of endodontics at the Catho- lic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens. Dr. Quartararo currently serves as president of the Dental Society of the State of New York. State Affiliate/Study Club News

The first meeting of the 1989-90 academic year of the Edward C. Penick Endodontir Study Club featured Dr. Rick Walton from the University of Iowa, speaking on "lntertreatment Flare-ups." Eighty-five members and guests attended the meeting held in the Navy Officers Club, Bethesda, Maryland.

Robert Krasny and James Steiner presented a stimulating program at the Harry J. Healey Endodontic Study Club meeting in Indianapolis. There were 34

endodontists and graduate students attending the pres- entation entitled "Are you a hostage of your practice?"

Drs. Krasny and Steiner also spoke to the Indianapo- lis District Dental Society the following day.

In Memoriam Dr. Eli Moskowitz of North Woodmere, NY, passed away November 11, 1989. He was 53 years old. A member of the AAE since 1966, Dr. Moskowitz re- ceived his DDS in 1965 from New York University and was a Diplo- mate of the American Board of Endodontics.
