Taking a total population of 10,412,820 for year ended 2010 as projected by the National Institute
of Statistics of Rwanda, the mobile teledensity as of December 2010 is 34% while the fixed
teledensity stands at 0.38%.
The mobile teledensity has slightly decreased as compared to the previous quarter due to a
decrease in RWANDATEL mobile subscriptions that is from 535,710 as of September to 306,706
mobile subscribers as of December 2010.

In all cases prepaid subscribers represent more than 99% of the total subscribers as depicted from
the above graph.

MTN Rwanda is still leading in mobile subsribers with 72% of the market share followed by
Tigo which has 19% and Rwandatel with 9% of the market share.

2.1 FIXED BROADBAND INTERNET MARKET SHARE As it can be depicted from both the above table and the below figure, that the broadband internet
market is mainly dominated by Rwandatel with 52% market share followed by MTN with 35%
market share which means that the two operators already hold 87% of the total broadband internet
market.

2.2. MOBILE INTERNET MARKET SHARE As of December 2010, RWANDATEL still has a higher market share in terms of mobile internet
subscribers with 59%, while MTN and TIGO possess the remaining 38% and 3% market share
respectively as depicted from the above figure

4.1 MOBILE TELEPHONE SERVICE FIXED TARIFFS
4.1.1 POSTPAID OPTION

MTN has a higher peak rate in terms of pospaid fixed tariff with a lowest tariff during
happy hours.

From the table above it is observed that Rwandatel is the cheapest in terms of postpaid
fixed off net tariffs.

Same as for postpaid option, MTN has a higher peak rate in terms of pospaid fixed tariff but
has a lowest discount rate(during Happy Hours) as illustrated in the above graph

4.2 PROMOTIONAL TARIFFS For TIGO and RWANDATEL, the promotional tariffs are only for onnet calls while for MTN both the
offnet and onnet calls are subject for promotion. For the promotion period, subscribers on MTN
networks benefit from a rate of 90 Rwf per minute for an offnet call. It is important to notice that
the fixed rate for offnet call is 126 Rwf for both postpaid and prepaid MTN customers while the
onnet tariff for the other two operators is fixed at 90 Rwf .
