Issues and Challenges
Chandigarh Administration
Public TransportThough Chandigarh has efficient public bus transport system, still due to high per capita income people usetheir own vehicles instead of public transport. Chandigarh needs to develop efficient, fast and reliable publictransport system other than bus service, while retaining its essential architecture. Further, it also needs toalign its policies to curb use of personal vehicles which creates the problem of higher pollution and parkingas well.
Land Locked CityChandigarh is a small land locked city and most of its land is already developed with only a few pieces ofland available. Chandigarh finds it increasingly difficult to create new infrastructure, be it for Green Energy,Housing or for other Social Infrastructure.
Medical Infrastructure Existing medical infrastructure is more than sufficient for the population of Chandigarh. However,Chandigarh being the capital city of Punjab and Haryana and also the most developed city in the region, patients from Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh come to Chandigarh for treatment. To cater thisadditional demand, Chandigarh needs to create more medical infrastructure.
