INCENTIVES AND REWARDS

GIFT BASKETS: TO THE HEART THROUGH THE STOMACH

Big box stores offer “craft a personalized basket” stations to allow customers to put together a gift

basket for friends, clients, and family using their store’s selection of treats and trinkets. Rather than spending the time and energy preparing the same homogenized foods, send something special!

1. Determine a client who has been exceptional.

2. Use your interactions with him to decide what would suit them.

3. Take this opportunity to present the gift and have the extra face time.

4. Come with a special promotion or deal that you can extend by having these figuratively hitting the shelves in fall, happy clients will be sure to keep these in mind as amazing holiday gifts.

Enjoy the repeat business!

The RiddlerYOUR CHANCE TO WIN A FREE GIFT

WHY CAN’T A WOMAN WHO IS NOW LIVING IN USA NOT BE BURIED IN MEXICO?Note: The first five people to correctly answer the riddle will win a free gift. Email, call or fax your answer (see form on back). Answer to last issue’s riddle: It’s a part of his job - he’s a justice of the peace.

SHARING IS CARING: OFFER INCENTIVES FOR INCREASED PRODUCTIVITY!

As the weather starts to turn, often employee productivity takes a hit as well. Minds are wandering, determining the best way to keep

things moving until the next big break. For most businesses, the fall quarter is essential to meeting the year-end goals, as well as for projecting the following year’s budget.

Rather than play “bad cop” to your staff, use positive reinforcement to get their minds back into the game! In the summer, many businesses offer family picnics and employee appreciation events with nothing left until the end of year to look forward to. By putting together a schedule of milestones for your team to hit, you’re guaranteed an increase in morale, hard work, and general positivity.

Depending on your line of work, put together a schedule with goals (for example, every 500 units sold). Associate that milestone with a celebration! Bowling You Over, the

“contest where everyone wins,” could become a competition to get everyone through 2015.

Once the goals are met, on a Friday afternoon, take the staff to the local bowling alley for a competition! Assign team names like “Pins & Needles,” “Striking You Out,” and “Turkey, It’s for Dinner,” and create baseball hats in different colors with your logo and the team names to get everyone into the spirit! After, hand out a trophy to the winning team, something that can be displayed on the members’ desks until the next big competition. That trophy will serve as a reminder that a rematch MUST take place; everyone knows meeting their next goal is how to make that happen.

Keeping the fun in the office and the teamwork at the forefront will ultimately result in a great working environment. Happy staff members will translate to an increase in your bottom line, even if there are a couple of afternoons off here and there.

“Blessed is the season which engages the whole worldin a conspiracy of love. ” – HAMILTON WRIGHT MABIE

“Charlie Brown, you’re the only person I know who can take a wonderful season like Christmas and turn it into a problem.”

– LINUS

“I wouldn’t say that holidays are manufactured bycorporations, but they’re certainly exploited

and mined by them.” – DAN SAVAGE

“Love the giver more than the gift.”– BRIGHAM YOUNG

Hitting the point where fashion meets function is the ultimate goal. Using a traditional door mat to sharply convey your

company’s brand or logo is hitting that perfect point.

Many businesses have outdoor entrances that customers enter directly from the sidewalk. These fashionable rugs protect your flooring from the elements; they trap dirt, dust, and water from coming inside. They also offer a professional appearance and a reassurance to customers that they’re in the right place. These rugs are also at home in an entryway, foyer, or in front

of the reception desk. They provide a way to continue the branding throughout your office and show clients how sharp and organized you are.

Looking for a way to connect your brand by partnering up with a client? Sandwich and coffee shops still see a lot of business during inclement weather… and the slippery tile floors can become a hazard! By having one of these sharp mats printed up with your logo, you’ll be doing your client a favor! These vividly colored mats are perfect to highlight a beverage display or freezer and will prevent any human spills from

taking place!

To take a step even further, give passerbys no option but to notice you and what you’re selling! Creating a life-size inflatable to display on the corner of your shopping center or on the roof of your building will guarantee exposure to a multitude of people! Featuring your mascot developed using materials that withstand the elements, your replica will be there for years to come.

HOST AN OPEN HOUSE TO CREATE AWARENESS WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE!1. Invite important clients, business partners, and local media over for an open house to share about a new product launch, service package, or rebranding. 2. Dazzle them with simple appetizers and wine; items that will not restrict conversation between your staff and invitees.3. Train your staff on the important talking points (3 to 5) to discuss in conversation.4. Send your guests home with a bag of items that complement your new product or service, including a simple one-page memo on the key points you mentioned earlier. Include the contact information for your team member that works with press and customer service.

It’s the extra touches that create a lasting impression!

Bottles of wine are a classic and common holiday gift, raffle giveaway, host gift, and appreciation present. In regular everyday gift-giving, the old adage “it’s the thought that counts,” is definitely true. However, when working to promote your business, this is an opportunity to stand out and keep in the back of the recipients’ minds so they think of you the next time you can meet one of their needs!

Corkscrews. With all of those bottles of wine to open, your recipient will need a way to open them! These corkscrews are self-contained in a beautiful bamboo box that can be engraved with your company’s contact information and logo! This way, long after that first batch of wine has been consumed, your gift will continue to make appearances at tailgates, dinners, and picnics!

Presentation Platter & Cutting Board. With all of the expensive wine to consume, one needs a snack to go with it! These cutting boards provide a beautiful place to serve cheese and fruit to accompany the multitude of wine imbibed over the holiday season. With your beautifully etched logo, no one will forget where it came from!

Wine Glasses & Carafe. A good wine needs to breathe… and most of the time sees its best consumption from a glass! These beautiful stemless glasses and carafe allow for a classy etching of your company’s logo design. More than just a holiday gift, these are perfect for any time of year and many occasions: outdoor picnics, a cocktail station, or even to include accompanying wine, this useful and aesthetically pleasing product is something that will be put to good use.

DEAR ADDY, NEED HELP? SEND US YOUR QUESTIONS.

We own and operate a small specialty store (we sell stationary, handcrafted soaps, handmade chocolates, etc.) in an area that is heavily populated during the holiday season. Because of the nature of our business, we see a lot of out-of-towners come in especially for gathering with their families, but are

not typically a destination for holiday shopping. We want to find a way to sell more items to these potential customers but haven’t been able to capitalize yet. Any ideas on how to capture more of this business?

Dear Handcrafted with Hands Up,A business like yours has nothing but items that people coming into town want and need! The difficult part is finding a way to get the exposure you need in order to attract these short-term guests.

Hotels, cabins, and bed & breakfasts are usually the first point-of-contact for these visitors. Reach out to these businesses and discuss creating a hospitality package that can be ready upon arrival! Samples of the items you sell at your store are perfect for the guests, and you have just created an opportunity to have a stream of customers hunting you down for one of the products they “can’t find anywhere else!”

Gift bags, such as these, imprinted with your contact information and logo are the best way to make a statement.

SUCCESS STORY

RAISING REVENUE IN LOW TEMPERATURESA local ice cream shop found that once temperatures started to drop, suddenly only a small fraction of customers were coming in. The owner had seen a report and noticed that the numbers didn’t match up to what the grocery store was seeing; they also saw a decline in business, but it was marginal compared to what he was seeing.

In their small town, he was centrally located, between all four of the main neighborhoods. During the rougher weather, it can be difficult from people on the outskirts to drive to meet each other. But, since he was smack-dab in the middle, he could be a perfect meeting place.

By putting together a game night promotion and a hot chocolate float, he was able to bring back many of his summer clients! He used packets of playing cards, printed with his logo and the new evening gatherings. He distributed them at the town’s tree lighting, to inform the residents of his new cold-weather treat. Finally he was able to fill his shop again with the life and bustle of the townspeople.
