Because of our advanced promotion, we had more than 600 attendees, including many non-Chinese students, for this event. Our programs varied from Chinese Folk music to Jazz dance. The audience was impressed by Xin Xu’s performance of the Chinese traditional dance “Qiu Shui Yi Ren”, which told a love story of a girl dancing next to the river and missing her lover. Holly and Jake, two of our non-Chinese GCC members, joined the T-show and the Gangnam Style dancing programs respectively. Holly presented the beauty and elegance of a girl from the Western country in the T-show and Jake lead the Gangnam Style dance, presenting his passion through his excellent dancing skills. The success of this great event raised our willingness to host events, such as the Mid-Autumn and Spring Festivals, to spread the Chinese culture and build a bridge between China and the rest of the world. After the presentation, we went to Bating Hollow Farm Vineyard, where we tried several different kinds of wines and discussed the tastes of those wines according to what we learned from the presentation. We not only had a great time but also learned a lot on wine from this event. This activity provided us a great opportunity to communicate with our American friends and to enhance the cohesiveness of our organization. “Goldman Goldman Goldman Goldman Sachs Sachs Sachs Sachs Asia Asia Asia Asia Pacific Pacific Pacific Pacific” Forum, Forum, Forum, Forum, October October October October 27 27 27 27 th th th th , 2012 2012 2012 2012 The “Goldman Sachs Asia Pacific” Forum was held by the Goldman Sachs Group to promote summer intern recruitment in 2014. GCC-SBU hosted the Spring Festival Gala with an overwhelming turnout of over 500individuals. The program featured a large variety of performances such as Jazzdancing, comedic stand-ups, singing, and even breakdancing. The most creative eventof the night was the dumpling eating contest where participants from the crowd wenton stage and raced from table to table. Contestants could only eat one dumpling pertrip. The competition became so humorous and intense that the crowd began to chant“加油!” (Add oil!), which is a Chinese expression of encouragement. The prizes forthe competition included two iPad minis, sponsored by Huntington Habberstad BMW.Throughout the show the audience took many pictures and videos and generally hadan amazing time. This is another great cultural event organized by GCC-SBU and thistime, GCC-SBU successfully used this event as a great platform to spread Chineseculture to non-Chinese students.
