• Stony Acres was founded in1962 by Helen G. Brown.• Established as a wildlife sanctuary in 1963, housing nearly 200 species of wildlife.• Stony Acres was donated to the student body by the Women’s Recreation Association and became Stony Acres, Inc. in 1964 .• In1984 the multipurpose lodge was built.

“Every effort must be made to keep Stony Acres a student project. Experiences gained from the planning, supervision, and operation of

this project could never be gained in the classroom nor could it’s true value be estimated in dollars and cents. The true value of such

a venture can only be seen in our graduates of tomorrow.” - Founder: Helen G. Brown

Challenge CourseThe challenge course is a series of outdoor elements requiring groups to solve problems by working together and sharing ideas. The elements of the course are constructed from cables stretched between trees, suspended tires, logs and/or ropes, that necessitate creative solutions. Low or ground level elements focus on group initiatives, and high elements offer individuals the opportunity to negotiate elements as high as 30 feet in the air while secured by a safety rope.

Throughout your group exercises, the "challenge by choice" philosophy will empower you and your team to make your own decisions.

By the time your experience on Stony Acres' 35-element course is complete, your group will notice improved communication, greater leadership skills, and a better ability to confront difficulties.

Corporate

Success in today’s corporate world means winning the profit game- and the good employer game, too. Employees are more productive when they feel good about the work they do. Smart executives and companies are responding to that need, tapping in to the tremendous power of Experience Based Training(EBT).

At Stony Acres, your team will learn by facing problem-solving situations that call upon their collective knowledge, ideas, and experience to arrive at a creative solution.

Developing Unity, Your Corporation's Greatest Challenge EBT is an excellent way to develop teams. It promotes supportiveness, acceptance, and trust, while challenging and motivating individuals to take risks and confront difficulty. Researchers say that we retain up to 90 percent more of what we do than what we read, hear, or observe.

At Stony Acres, your team will learn by facing problem-solving situations that call upon their collective knowledge, ideas, and experience to arrive at creative solutions.

Experience Based Training at Stony Acres Yields •Enhanced leadership development •Improved communication and listening skills •Effective teamwork and cooperation •Better conflict management •Willingness to take appropriate risks •Increased employee loyalty and trust •Improved creative and collaborative problem-solving skills •Expanded ability to set and achieve goals

Stony Acres' EBT programs inspire and build confidence within teams seeking to tackle the obstacles in their path – whether that obstacle is a river, a ropes course, or a quality control issue. Our programs require participants to use reasoning and communication skills to face their fears, overcome obstacles, and confront conflicts head on.

These "challenge by choice" programs empower participants, facilitating individual and group growth.
