Student Teaching Requirements Program 1
Before you can student teach, you must meet these requirements:GPA of 3.0 or higher24 credits of content and education courses completed100 hours of fieldwork completedPassed the following five (5) courses
CEDF 712: Child and Adolescent Development EDESL 771: K-12 ESL Curriculum and Materials Through the Content Areas EDESL 772: First and Second Language, and Technological Literacy EDESL 796.1: Methodology of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages LING 702: Analysis and Structure of English
No Incompletes on your transcriptAll previous admission conditions completed
Student Teaching Requirements Program 2
If you are in Program 2, must satisfy the following prior to Student Teaching:GPA of 3.0 or higher22 credits of content and education courses completed50 hours of fieldwork completedPassed the following five (5) courses:

What is Practicum?
In academia, “Practicum” is a course where you study your current practice
At Hunter we call Practicum an opportunity to be a full time in- service teacher while you are completing your degree.
Practicum Requirements
All Student Teaching requirements.A JobA job offer letter from a school principal on school letterhead
This must state that: They are hiring you to teach ESL full-time (the equivalent of at least 5
periods/day, 5 days per week) Exactly which classes/grades/levels of ESL you will be teaching Must state that the job offer is for the period of this academic year
(Feb-June, 2014).
TESOL Certification or Internship Certificate Even if you are certified in another area, you STILL need an
internship certificate!
Advanced Certificate Requirements
GPA of 3.2 or higher20 credits of content and education courses70 hours of fieldwork completedPassed the following five (5) courses:

What is an Internship Certificate?
A certificate issued by the New York State Education Department that allows you to work as a teacher in an ESL classroom before you are fully certified in TESOL
Internship Certificate Requirements
You are a graduate student in an MA program leading to initial certificationYou hold a teaching position requiring you to have NYS Certification in order to retain that position OR you have a commitment for a teaching position on the condition that you obtain NYS CertificationYou have passed the your certification exams by the deadline
Old Exams: LAST, ATSW and CST in TESOL New Exams: ALST, EAS and CST in TESOL
You have at least a 3.2 GPA in the TESOL ProgramYou will be able to complete your entire certification program within one year (or within your remaining semesters of Practicum)You must be registered for the Practicum (and be supervised) for the entire time you are teaching on an Internship Certificate (until you are fully certified)You must be recommended by the School of Education and will be supervised by a Hunter Field Supervisor during the internship period

3 Observations per Semester (One Videotaped Lesson)

Observations are 60% of your Seminar Grade
