A two day celebration of one of the most iconic musical figures of the twentieth century

5 & 6 February 2016 / National Concert Hall

Boundlessly imaginative and brilliantly unpredictable, theiconoclastic Stravinsky changed the sound of classical music, plundering the past to re-fashion the future, borrowing freely from the Baroque and the Blues, American jazz and Russian folk songs to create an entirely new music language.

Stravinsky in Focus casts light on several of the great works hecomposed between the start of the First and end of the SecondWorld Wars, from the early pithy Three Pieces for String Quartetand an all too rare opportunity to experience the pulsing paganismof Les Noces to the painterly ‘Dumbarton Oaks’ and darkerwartime infused tones of the Symphony in Three Movements.

And there are masterpieces on every scale: including the pristineOctet, the pastiche jazz era of Ragtime, the neo-classical eleganceof the complete music to Pulcinella and the austerely beautifulSymphony of Psalms.
