THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO LUKE (13:1-9)
Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mixed with their sacrifices. Jesus answered, “Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them – do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.”
Then he told this parable: “A man had a fig tree, planted in his vineyard, and he went to look for fruit on it, but did not find any. So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, ‘For three years now I’ve been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven’t found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up all the soil?’
“’Sir,’ the man replied, ‘leave it alone for one more year, and I’ll dig around it and fertilize it. If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.’”
THE FIRST EPISTLE OF ST. PAUL TO THE THESSALONIANS (4:1-12)
Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more. For you know what instructions we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus. It is God's will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God; and that in this matter no one should wrong his brother or take advantage of him. The Lord will punish men for all such sins, as we have already told you and warned you. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. Therefore, he who rejects this instruction does not reject man but God, who gives you his Holy Spirit. Now about brotherly love we do not need to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love each other. And in fact, you do love all the brothers throughout Macedonia. Yet we urge you, brothers, to do so more and more. Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

SUNDAY SCHOOL 8TH GRADERS This year, Sts. Vartanantz Sunday School eighth graders are learning
about the Soorp Badarak of the Armenian Orthodox Church. As part
of this curriculum, they have the opportunity to participate in the Badarak. This past Sunday, November 26th, the class witnessed Der
Kapriel as he vested prior to the service. As Der Hayr robed, each student read from St. Paul’s Epistle, Ephesians 6:10-17, "Finally be
strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God..." The students learned about what each piece of the
vestment symbolizes.
Once services began, students participated in several ways, such as
reading from the Epistle, singing in the choir, collecting donations, offering the Kiss of Peace, and handing out/collecting head pieces for
Communion. The students both enjoyed and appreciated this unique opportunity to participate in the Badarak. They will continue to build
upon this knowledge and journey as our school year progresses.

SAINTS THADDEUS AND BARTHOLOMEW
Tomorrow, December 2, the Armenian Church commemorates Saints
Thaddeus and Bartholomew, two of the twelve apostles who were the first
evangelizers of Armenia, and were martyred there, giving the Armenian
Church its apostolic identity and earning them the title, “First
Enlighteners of Armenia.”
Thaddeus came to Armenia about 43 AD to preach Christianity. He was
martyred in southeastern Armenia. His tomb lies in the Armenian
monastery of St. Thaddeus (Iran) where a chapel was built in the third
century. Bartholomew is believed to have arrived in Armenia about 66
AD. He was martyred in Hadamakert, southeast of Lake Van.
An apostle is “someone who is sent,”—an emissary or ambassador of the
Kingdom of God, sent to announce the Kingdom’s coming in Jesus Christ,
and authorized to claim men and women’s allegiance to him. “We are
ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We beseech
you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God,” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Also remembered this week:
St. Clement of Rome (November 30)
St. Gennaro (December 4)
St. Apkar, 1st Christian King (December 5)

Finding Home: An Armenian American’s Journey
to Historic Armenia
In June 2017, Laura Michael embarked on an emotional
journey to her ancestral homeland in eastern Turkey in
order to find her great-grandparents’ former homes in
the village of Havav, outside of the old city of Palu.
Laura, the daughter of Ungerouhi Jean Goshgarian
Michael, is a former Rhode Islander who now resides in
Los Angeles. She will share her experience of being the
first person in her family since the Genocide to step foot
in Historic Armenia and confront her family’s past.
She will also share many photos from the trip, explain
the role of the Armenian DNA Project in a shocking
discovery she made and discuss interactions with Turks,
Kurds and Islamized Armenians currently living in Bitlis,
Diyarbakir (Dikranagerd), Elazig (Kharpert), Moush,
Palu, Sasoun and Van.
George Aghjayan, who is actively involved in Armenian
genealogy and the demographics of Western Armenia,
will be a special guest for Laura’s presentation.
