COMMON ENTRANCE SURVEY: RESULTS FOR 2010-11 FOR ALL TCPCG STUDENTS July 2010 The Common Entrance Survey was administered to all incoming students enrolled in the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education’s Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG) for the 2010-11 school year. This report presents results of this survey, which was completed by 66 students, 44 of whom (66.6%) are female. Both the Hartford- and Waterbury-based cohorts of the TCPCG program are represented in this report. Nearly five percent of respondents grew up in a home where Spanish was the primary language. 72.7% of the TCPCG cohort is based in Hartford, with the remaining 27.3% at the Waterbury campus. 83.3% of respondents attended a public high school. Most respondents would like to work at a suburban school with moderate SES, a racially and ethnically diverse student body, and average to high achievement levels. 83.3% of respondents had an undergraduate GPA greater than 3.0. A majority of respondents received their undergraduate degree in either 2010 (34.9%) or before 2006 (25.76%). 1

COMMON ENTRANCE SURVEY: RESULTS FOR 2010-11 FOR ALL TCPCG STUDENTS

The Common Entrance Survey was administered to all incoming students enrolled in the University of Connecticut’s Neag School of Education’s Teacher Certification Program for College Graduates (TCPCG) for the 2010-11 school year. This report presents results of this survey, which was completed by 66 students, 44 of whom (66.6%) are female. Both the Hartford- and Waterbury-based cohorts of the TCPCG program are represented in this report.

Nearly five percent of respondents grew up in a home where Spanish was the primary language.

72.7% of the TCPCG cohort is based in Hartford, with the remaining 27.3% at the Waterbury campus.

83.3% of respondents attended a public high school. Most respondents would like to work at a suburban school with moderate SES, a racially

and ethnically diverse student body, and average to high achievement levels. 83.3% of respondents had an undergraduate GPA greater than 3.0. A majority of respondents received their undergraduate degree in either 2010 (34.9%)

ResponseI hope to have taken full advantage of the program and become a better leader than I was coming in to the program. This will help me become a outstanding educator in the future.have gained more experience in the classroom, learning techniques from other educators as well as my peers. I would like to learn how to help underachieving students reach their fullest potential; I feel this will be the most difficult task I will face as an educator. Once I graduate I hope to be able to inspire all of my students, and help them to learn to love literature the way I do.Be able to effectively teach students from a variety of backgrounds as well as make an impact on the school and surrounding community.Be a qualified, efficient teacher of English. I hope to get a job at a top high school in Connecticut and gain experience working with students in grades 9-12. I hope to some day teach at the collegiate level.

Be as prepared as possible to teach my own classroom the following fall.

move forward with my degree and perhaps attain a full time teaching job. If that does not work out I may go back to graduate school for a degree in forensic anthropology. I tend to go with the flow so if it will all depend on what opportunities are presented to me upon graduation.

Unlike undergraduate classes where you may never use the things you learn, I know every single bit of information I gain in this program will be a major part of the rest of my life.

I would really like to be an interesting and energizing educator that pushes students to do their best and to crave knowledge beyond what is taught in the classroom.find a position in a high school which will allow me to effectively prepare students in the field of physics. I hope to show the next generation the excitement I have with physics, and hope to inspire them to work hard, and hopefully pursue a career in physics (or at least a higher percentage than normal). Essentially, I hope to be, and know I will be an effective educator.Upon graduation, I hope to be able to feel confident in my teaching abilities. I want to know a variety of learning theories and have practiced them in the classroom. I would like to network among my colleagues to build valuable relationships that will last throughout my career. I intend to teach at a high needs school to fulfill the noyce and TEACH grant requirements I may continue in a high needs system after that depending on my experiences, I intend to gain uconn certification to teach calculus as a co-op college level class, and my also pursue a certification in social sciences at some point since I have the required coursework and would only need to take a methods courseBe more comfortable and confident in my knowledge and passion in my content area so that I can make a difference in a poorer economic school setting.

in a high needs area where my learned skills as an educator can be put to good use in our state. Furthermore, I expect upon completion of this program to be fully ready for a career in education, educating diverse groups of individuals in a dynamic way.be able to motivate students to study and put forth an honest academic effort. In addition, I hope to provide them with the skill sets required to be successful individuals in both academia and the work force.

More precisely, I want to be able to effectively communicate what I know, not always be thinking later what I should have said or should have done. That's what I worry about most, because what you know is not worth anything if you cannot pass it along. I also hope to feel better about any issues caused by the gap between my college years and the starting of my teaching tenure.teach elementary education.pursue a career in education. I hope to work with middle school students, as I enjoy working with that age group and the types of literature they read. I hope I will learn more about effective teaching methods and managing a classroom to maximize the students' education.obtain a job teaching high school english.
