Dear exchange students! Welcome to the Czech Republic – the heart of Europe! You will spend the next few months in the country of beer, beautiful girls and hockey, but also the homeland of Miloš Forman, Milan Kundera and Alfons Mucha. Are you afraid of your stay here? Don’t worry! International Student Club of Masaryk University in Brno has prepared this Student Guide for you. It introduces you to all the activities you can participate in during the semester. All of them are organized by student volunteers to make your stay here once-in-a-lifetime experience!

Membership

Your membership in ISC MU Brno will bring you a wide range of benefits and make your stay in Brno easier, happier and unforgettable! Have Some Fun! Country Presentations When? Wednesdays, food tasting at 7.30 p.m., presentations at 8 p.m. SHARP! Where? ESF MU, room P101

You will be introduced to various countries and cultures in a very enjoyable, funny and interactive manner! Do you still hesitate to prepare a presentation of your own country? Just remember that it is a unique opportunity for you to tell people the truth about your country and also a great chance to win a KEG OF BEER! You will not only be competing, but also, more importantly, sharing a bit of yourself with the others! It is also a tradition to prepare your national speciality – get a bill and ISC MU will reimburse your expenses up to 700 CZK!

How about having some fun together and doing something interesting? On students-for-students basis, we offer you a wide variety of courses taught by the exchange students themselves! If you want to become a teacher and introduce the basics of your language (and the inevitable colloquial phrases and idioms) to the others, just let us know. Quiz Night When? Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. Where? Spodní bar Test your knowledge of science, your sensitivity for pop culture, your awareness of current events, your familiarity with Brno, the Czech Republic, Europe, and the world. So let’s find out just how much attention you have paid at high school. Come with a diverse team - your chances to win will be significantly bigger that way! Trust us. The quiz is in English, but we encourage everyone to play even though you can’t speak that well! The whole evening is full of fun, and you’ll actually leave the bar smarter than when you came in! Are you bored of all parties and hangovers? While staying in Brno, you should not forget to visit Špilberk Castle and The Casemates, Veveří Castle which can be reached by boat across the Brno Lake, Moravian Gallery, Technical Museum and Brno Observatory and much more! Opera Swan Lake When? 24th September Come to spend evening in national theather in Brno! We chose one of the most popular ballet, Swan Lake, which was composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The scenario, initially in two acts, was fashioned from Russian folk tales and tells the story of Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse.

Wine tasting When? 1st October A unique opportunity for you to taste the best wines of our region. Wide range of wines from all over the world and a beautiful “wine atmosphere”, accompanied by a traditional folklore band playing only for you!

Vila Tugendhat When? 12th November The Villa Tugendhat, built it 30’s, the only example of Modern architecture in the CZ on the UNESCO List of World Cultural Herit-age, is waiting your visit.

Underground corridors of Brno When? 10th December Don't miss the opportunity to visit a mysterious net-work of underground tunnels with crannies of medi-eval cellars.

SocialErasmus

This project gives YOU the opportunity to volunteer to do charity work in the local community as well as getting to know a new culture and system of education! The project encompasses multicultural information mee-tings in schools, as well as ecological and cultural events.

Beer bottle domino How about drinking beer for a good thing? Just imagine it: It is simple, just collect empty beer bottles and save them for a giant domino and the glass bottles will be later recycled and money from it will be donated to a charity!

Erasmus in Schools Are you enjoying your stay in Brno, the activities we are offering you? Do you think that going on Exchange was the best idea of your life (or at least a really good idea :) ? Then don’t miss the opportunity to visit high-school students and inspire them to do the same thing. Don’t hesitate and share your story!

ExchangeAbility The exchange programme is there also for people with some disabilities. Unfortunately, most schools aren’t prepared to host these people. But we want to change it. Do you wanna try to move without seeing anything, walk through the halls on a wheelchair, or visit a course without hearing a word the teacher is saying? The results of this project will be delivered to the headquarter of MU, so let’s make the exhchange accesible for everyone

Regular sport events There is a regular schedule planned for swimming, volleyball, gym, futsal, basketball, but be sure to check our website for updated information! You will only need your ESN card and 30 CZK. For indoor sports, you will need sport shoes with a white sole.
