STLP Mission

The Mission of the Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) is to:

1.Advance the individual capabilities of students;

2. To motivate all students;

3. To create leadership opportunities through the use of technology.

Student Technology Leadership Program Goals

• The STLP will develop activities that enhance the academic, social and emotional growth of the student.

• The STLP will provide leadership opportunities for all students.

• The STLP will experience multi-age collaboration by forming innovative learning partnerships.

• The STLP will form learning partnerships between students with different technology skills.

• The STLP will develop activities that benefit communities.

• The STLP will develop instructional activities, which integrate technology and benefit the school and support the Kentucky Education Technology System (KETS).

• Thursdays, 3 to 5pm = All Members must attend each meeting!

• TBD = Deadline to register for Regional Showcase• November 2011 (Date Pending) = Regional

Showcase Competition at WKU• March 22, 2012 (Tentative) = State Championship

All STLP Members Will Participate in

Regional and/or State Competition!

• Your BEST behavior is always a necessity!• Honesty is a mandatory quality!• Communication is key to being successful!• Make a decision and stick to it!• Timeliness is a must to be a competitor!• All STLP members will be competitors!• Clean up after yourself! Trash in trash can!• Put table, chairs, and materials back where you

found them!• Shutdown computers and monitors before you

leave!

• STLP projects, services and products tie directly to ISTE NETS (http://cnets.iste.org/students/).

• 21st Century Skills (http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/) and

• Kentucky Department of Education Technology Program of Studies (TE POS).

TE POS STLP Categories of Student Participation

Information Projects, products[1], services, quick recall, IT engineers and help desks build technology information skill sets

Communication Projects, Cinemania, cyber gazette reporters, engineers, presenters, products, services, storytelling, technical writers, video producers, and web designers are communicators

Productivity Projects, products and services created by students demonstrate productivity

Safety STLP students should demonstrate and model safe and ethic behavior

Ethical STLP students should demonstrate and model safe and ethic behavior

Social Issues STLP students collaborate in projects, products and services; use digital citizenship and explore and prepare for future occupations

Research Projects, products, services, engineers, help desks, and presenters utilize research

Inquiry/Problem-Solving

Aviation, animation, engineers, bench challenge, help desk, Minds On, networking, robotics, scripting, projects, programmers, and gaming demonstrate problem solving

Innovation Projects, innovation, design a game, products, services, engineers, Minds On help develop and demonstrate innovation

International Society of Technology Education (ISTE)

1. Creativity and Innovation Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

2. Communication and Collaboration Students use digital media and environments to communicate and work collaboratively, including at a distance, to support individual learning and contribute to the learning of others.

3. Research and Information Fluency Students apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information.

4. Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making Students use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems, and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources.

5. Digital Citizenship Students understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior.

6. Technology Operations and Concepts Students demonstrate a sound understanding of technology concepts, systems, and operations.

STLP has projects, products and services that will help build these skills.

Students may demonstrate the skills during Regional Fall Showcase, Winter Virtual Judging and State Championship each year.

Projects developed by the STLP members will be stronger when projects are:

• Related to a need in the building and/or community

• Carried out by the students over time with adult guidance

• May include student interest or current or emerging technology topics

• Reinforced by school and the community and are part of the school culture

• Centered around the STLP Mission and Goals• Demonstrate student tech standards• Students are engaged in a global collaborative

project such as ThinkQuest, iEarn• Partnered across grades, schools, communities

(local, state, national and global)• Students can discuss the project well with an

adult -due to active involvement in the project

Best projects are recognized for:

• Unique features

• Impact on student(s)

• Impact on school or community (local to global)

• Use of a variety of technology tools (Hardware, software and Web 2.0)

Make Your Choice!

Regional Showcase or Product?? OR BOTH!

If regional showcase, there are five categories to choose from:

1. Community Service: projects that extend outside the classroom to help the school and community

2. Entrepreneurial: projects that demonstrate a new way, idea or solution that could result in money

3. Global: projects that collaborate with another classroom or school (local or global) for a stated purpose

4. Instructional: projects that impact classroom instruction and help in student or adult learning

5. Technical: projects that are specific to the use of hardware and software; or STEM topics
