Finding an internship

Keep in mind: Is the internship at the right level, compared to your study? Does the internship fulfil all the criteria your university has set? Does your internship coordinator approve of the internship? Is expert supervision provided for you during the internship? Does the internship company or institution provide you with a

certificate or letter of recommendation afterwards?

Erasmus for study and internship

Duration of the study period or internship abroad varies from 3 to 12 months;

The number of available grants depends on the institution;

Grant recipients will receive an amount a month;

All disciplines/degree programmes in the European Union countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Croatia, Turkey and the overseas territories of all these countries.

Recipients of an Erasmus grant are entitled to take part in one internship and one period of study.

Erasmus Intensive Language Course

Free language course of up to six weeks (at least 60 hours) for Erasmus students;

1 extra month of grant money;

Minor languages only (not English, Spanish, French or German);

Apply for course through institution’s International Office.

Huygens Scholarship Programme

Intended for exceptionally talented students who wish to spend a period of time studying abroad at bachelor’s (final phase) or master’s degree level during or after their studies in the Netherlands, or doing an internship;

Grants are available for a period of at least 6 and no more than 24 months;

Grants consist of: - reimbursement of tuition fees- standard monthly allowance - one-off standard reimbursement of international travel expensesPlease note: costs are indicative and depend on your country of destination;

Applications must be submitted to Nuffic before 1 February 2011 (from 1 November 2010 onwards).

Huygens Scholarship Programme

• As a student, you are free to determine in which country and at which institution you would like to study.

• The provision is that the institution of your choice should have a solid reputation in your specific discipline.

• Most importantly, though, your own performance must be above average.

• If you excel as a student and would like to study abroad, you may apply to Nuffic for a grant.

Which requirements will you have to meet?

Your academic results reflect your talents as a student, and must thus be exceptional. In order to qualify, for example, you must be amongst the top 10% of your study programme, or even the top 5%.

You have a clear motivation to study or follow an internship abroad. You have been nominated by your Dutch institution. The study, research programme or internship in which you aim to take

part must offer more in-depth or broader knowledge in the area of your preparatory programme.

Preconditions

Your study programme in the Netherlands is a full-time, CROHO-registered bachelor’s or master’s degree programme at an institution that is a signatory to the Code of Conduct on International Students in Dutch Higher Education.

The study programme in which you wish to take part is a bachelor’s programme offered in the final phase of the relevant study programme (for example, no grants are available for the first two years of a bachelor’s programme) or a master’s degree programme that complements your studies in the Netherlands. Internships can only be conducted as a normal part of your study programme (and must yield credits). Please note: Study programmes at PhD level are not eligible.

You are no older than 35 years of age at the start of the new academic year (1 September 2011).

You have Dutch nationality or meet the requirements for Dutch student grant recipients.

• Candidate requirements: studying at a research university or recognized university of applied sciences, or recently graduated and not yet employed. The institution where the candidate is studying or has graduated has to be part of a European Leonardo internship network.

• Scale/nature of scholarship : max € 5,000 (for a period of 12 months)Duration of the scholarship: 2-26 weeks
