ABSTRACT
In the world of modern technology production field requires better productivity, material
handling, and safety. For easy handling of material, we are developing the Industrial
Pneumatic Crane with better advance technology with suitable optimization. By the use of
components such as pneumatic cylinder, PIR motion sensor, electro magnet, switch board
power supply, compressor and pipe.
Pneumatic Crane is designed to automatically or manually load machines with raw sheet
metal by using electromagnet from loading station to pallet. Finished Sheet has to be still
removed from machine manually. It consist advance feature for safety by using PIR (passive
infrared sensor) motion sensor. An electromagnet is a one type of magnet in which the
E.M.F. is produced by electric current, and the field vanishes whenever the current is turned
off. Electromagnets are being used in everyday items, just like loudspeakers and doorbells.
An electromagnetic crane has a large electromagnet which can be turned on and off. We
developing pneumatic crane for industrial purpose and it works on manually for prototype
base.

INTRODUCTION
INTRODUCTION OF INDUSTRIAL PNEUMATIC PICK AND PLACER WITH PIR
SENSOR
A crane is a lifting machine, generally armed with a reel (also called a wire rope drum), wire
ropes or chains and blocks, that can be used both to lift and lower materials and to move them
horizontally.
There are various types of cranes uses in the industry which are as following:
1. Tower crane 2. Self-erecting crane 3. Telescopic crane
4. Hammerhead crane 5. Level luffing crane 6. Pneumatic Crane
7. Gantry crane 8. Deck crane 9. Jib crane
10. Bulk-handling crane 11. Loader crane 12. Stacker crane
Used inside workshops, to the tallest tower cranes, utilized for constructing high buildings,
and the most astronomically immense floating cranes, used to build oil rigs and salvage

sunken ships.
CALCULATION[1]
Pneumatic cylinder materials stainless steel aluminium steel brass nickel plated
1 Pa = 1 N/m² 1 bar = 10 N/cm²
law of newton F = ma Force = mass * acceleration
Want to lift = 12 kg
1) So equation Fg = m * g = 12 * 9.81 = 117.72
Effective pressure Pe = 6 bar = 60 N/ cm²
2) F = P * A
effective piston area A= F/P = 117.72/60 = 1.96 cm²
3) Cylinder diameter
A = ∏ /4 *d²
d² = 4A / ∏
d = 2 *√A / ∏
d= 2 * (√1.962/ ∏)
d= 1.58 cm
4) Cylinder air consumption
Q = ( A1+ A2)* S * n (Patm + Pope/ Patm)* 1/1000
Where,
Q = air consumption
A1 = effective piston area for advance stroke
A2 = effective piston area for return stroke
S = piston stroke length 32 cm
n = cycle per m in
Patm = atmospheric pressure
Pope = operating pressure
d = 1.58 cm
Piston rod diameter 1cm
Effective piston area advance(forward) stroke
A1= d²* P/4 = (1.58²* 6/4 ) = 3.74 cm²
Effective piston area for reverse stroke
A2 = A1 - d²* P/4 = 3.74 - 1²*6/4 = 2.24cm²
Air consumption
Q = (3.74+2.24) * 32 * 20 * (1+6 / 1) *1/1000
Q = 26.79 cm³/min

PIR MOTION SENSOR[2]
ADVANTAGES
You can accurately adjust the distance and angle of observation of moving objects
IR detectors are safe for human health and do not affect pets
These senses can be used over short or long ranges up to 100m, filling gaps, gates or door
DISADVANTAGES
Works less effectively in rain, snow or if the emitter’s photocell is in direct sunlight
At least two AIR detectors should be installed to form a barrier and reduce the likelihood
of an intruder bypassing them
SCOPE OF WORK
In future, many big industries are use robotics system so these type of pick and placer use
easily.
There are many types of metal plates move to easily for this pick and placer
Many types of disaster problems are decrease to help of PIR sensor
There are doing small effort high work easily
There are very useful in the future because requirement of workers are decrease.
OBJECTIVES
“The objective of Industrial pneumatic crane is improve material handling with reference
to safety of workers and employs and it is indirectly deals with success of manufacturing
process.”
“An object of this invention is improvement of material handling system with help of
pneumatic components and advance features using PIR(passive infrared sensor)Motion
Sensor.”

CONCLUSION
After working on this project, we conclude that by using the PIR motion sensor, we would
stop the industrial disaster and would successfully pick and place the metal sheets or some
other materials to pallet.
