INTRODUCTION
This hostel was heralded by most Gracious Dr. M.B. Lal Sahab, the august founder director of D.E.I.
It came into being and commenced in 1992. The D.E.I. Girls’ hostel is located amidst the tranquil
environment of Dayalbagh, a self-contained colony, renowned for its serene environment and secular
establishment in which its inhabitants lead an active, disciplined and co-operative community life,
dedicated to service and confirming to high spiritual ideals of its faith. Nestled between lush garden
fields it provides an excellent ambience and academic setting which is in harmony of nature. The
members of managing committee and the wardens of the hostel are mostly retired, highly qualified,
experienced and dedicated honorary workers. Students from various parts of the country having diverse
cultural background and religious beliefs live together with the spirit of Fatherhood of God and
Brotherhood of man. Hostel environment inculcates the values of Simple living & High Thinking. Prime
importance is given to complete development of students through Addhyayan, Seva and Vyayaam. The
hostel climate facilitates them to imbibe the message of the Founder of Educational policy of DEI,
Revered Dr. M.B. Lal Sahab “Think freely, Behave humbly and wisely, obey promptly and willingly”.
This yearly report of the hostel includes some impressible list of achievements related to hostellers,
hostel or the esteemed wardens by the gracious advice of most revered Prof. P.S. Satsangi Sahab,
Chairman of Advisory Committee on Education (ACE) we are thankful to the Director DEI Prof. Prem
Kumar Kalra, Registrar Prof. Anand Mohan and Treasurer Mrs. Sneh Bijlani, for their cooperation in
running the hostel efficiently.

HOSTEL CABINET
Currently, Hostel is properly maintained and enthusiastically run by the three wardens: Mrs. Sadhana
Bhalla (chief warden), Mrs. Bala Swami (Resident Warden) and Mrs. Shirisha Raiesh (Non-Resident
warden). The hostellers are looked after by them in a proper and motherly manner.
GUIDING STUDENT FORCES OF HOSTEL
Hostel cabinet consists of the Heads & In-charges for each of the four wings who are PhD Scholars and
Masters or Bachelors Students, each of them are assigned duties which are given by the wardens with
the help of remaining students the day to day activities are being carried out in a guided manner.
Different committees have been made to manage different aspects of the hostel, e.g. discipline, food,
infrastructure maintenance, cleanliness, sports activities etc.

DEI GIRLS’ HOSTEL REPORT 2019
PROJECTS TAKEN UP THIS SESSION:
The session 2018-19 has been an eventful endeavor for the DEI Girl’s Hostel. A summary of all the
achievements are as follows:
1. Renovation of rooms
Five rooms were renovated which included painting and new window mesh.
Construction of additional common washroom i.e. 5th wing
The new wing includes;
- 6 washrooms and 5 bathrooms with shower.
- Installation of Sensor taps
- Installation of hand dryer
- Tiled floors and walls
- Installation of sewage bio-digester
- Installation of washing machine
- Installation 100 liter geyser

2. Facilities added in the hostel
- Honorable director helped in providing new water cooler and water purifier for pure
drinking water for the girls;
- A new vending machine with three hot beverages coffee, tea and soup was installed to
help the girls study at late hours.
- An electric toaster for hot bread and butter during breakfast and a gas geyser for hot
water in winter were installed.

3. Hosted lodging of students of University’s student Exchange programme
The hostel has also hosted the students, pouring in from different universities both national and
international as part of the student exchange programme, viz;
- Central University of Rajasthan, Jaipur in September 2018.
- DEI Distance Education Centres of Rajaborari and Timarni in November 2018.
- Hong Kong University in December-January 2019.
- Nauni University, Solan in December 2018 and March 2019.

» Beddings, mattresses and blankets were purchased to make their stay comfortable both in
summers and winters.

4. Mural painting
The hostel also recently organized a recreational activity to enhance the beauty of the hostel. The
students of the hostel came together to paint murals on the walls of the visitor’s room and the pillars
of mess corridor.

5. Preparation of Compost by the Kitchen Waste
6. Preparing the compost in the hostel has led to an eco-friendly and cost effective way to manage the
daily vegetables and tea wastes which is for the production of the compost. Hence, the hostel’s
kitchen garden can now sustain on its own and is independent from purchasing the compost from
the market, as well as the excess of compost can also be provided outside the hostel.

7. Renovation of 1st and 2nd wing
1st and 2nd wings were renovated with tiled floor and walls, new flushes, additional of one western
toilet, and showers in each bathroom.

8. Hostel Celebrations (2018-2019)
The hostel organizes a variety of celebratory events for the children each year. All the students come
together with great enthusiasm to present a variety of cultural programmes. The variety of cultural
events organized this session includes:
1. The Lohri Celebrations
2. The Basant Celebrations

3. The cultural programme organized for the welcome of the HKU students.
4. The Shubhkamana Divas 2019 (farewell of the students and students receiving certificates for
the competition organized).

HOSTEL FACILITIES
I. Mess Facility
Strictly vegetarian, healthy, nutritive and good quality meals are provided in the mess on
nominal charges ranging from rupees 800 to 1200 per month. Health and hygiene is given utmost
importance. Students are required to take their morning breakfast, Lunch, Evening refreshment,
Dinner and milk in the Dining hall only. Everyday menu is fixed but on some special occasions the
members and incharges of Food & Mess committee can give the collective feedback and
suggestions to decide the menu for the day.
a. Facility of Solar Cooking Vessels – The mess is provided with the Solar Cooking Vessels
and the mess workers are trained to handle the vessels efficiently. Works like cooking Rice,
Daal, boiling potatoes, vegetables and water has been carried out with the help of solar
vessels. Thereby, reducing the use of Gas and making use of the solar energy. Along with
the vessels we also have a solar cooker for making cake in direct sunlight.
b. Cooking facility - The hostel also provides cooking facility to the hostellers. Students are
allowed to prepare Prasad on their birthdays and other snacks like Pasta, Maggie using gas
stove in the hostel mess, under the supervision of wardens who also guide them in making
Prasad.

II. COMPUTER AND INTERNET FACILITY
Hostel has a computer room equipped with internet LAN connection and Wi-Fi. Students use their
laptop for academic purposes to prepare their assignments, case studies, dissertation & thesis work
and projects.
III. LIBRARY FACILITY
Hostel has a library where hostellers can read newspapers, magazines and books. Library has a wide
variety of books covering different areas and genre viz. career, education, literature and novels.
Books and magazines are also issued to students for a period of time.

IV. MEDICAL FACILITY
The Hostel has a Medical room where sick students are given first aid. Common medicines are
available which are provided to the student after consulting doctor or as prescribed by the doctor.
A lady doctor (Dr. Kamlesh Chopra) is available in the evening of every alternate day for
consultation, check-up and advice. Student incharges of Medical committee in the hostel give first
aid and medicines to the needy students.
V. TELECOM FACILITY
Hostel provides a paid telephone facility. Students can make and receive calls from their homes on
subsidized call rates.

VI. GAMES AND SPORTS FACILITY
The hostel campus has sufficient space for outdoor and indoor games. Students can play games in their
leisure times. There is a committee for organizing sports competitions twice a year and winners are
awarded with prizes. Items like badminton racquet, football, volleyball, play boards like carom, chess and ludoo can be issued by the students to play for a decided time.

VII. VISITORS’ ROOM FACILITY
Parents and local guardians can meet their wards in the visitors room in the visiting time under the
supervision of the visitors room’s attendent.

CELEBRATIONS
1. Basant Celebration-
The most awaited auspicious “Basant” has been celebrated in the hostel with great zeal and zest
every year. The entire hostel is cleaned, decorated and illuminated with lights. All of the decorations
has been made and designed by the help of hostel students. Along with the decorations students
also prepare an educative model based on the science of consciousness which they prepare by
refereeing relevant scientific research articles, books, and thesis and also after consulting the
professors from the concerned department of the university. The model is exhibited to the local
people for a selected time interval during Basant. The students of D.E.I girls’ hostel designed a
model entitled “GOD’S GREAT DESIGN: INFINITY TO ETERNITY”. The model reviews
the various major scientific theories, their shortcomings and their relevance in conjunction of the
philosophy of Radhasoami faith.

2. Glipses of Celebration of Annual Day (2013)- With the forever mercy and grace of the Holy
Father D.E.I Girls’ hostel celebrated its annual function with great zeal and enthusiasm.
Program began with the offerings in the lotus feet of Huzur Radhasoami Dayal, which has
followed by the honor and welcome of the chief guest Mrs.Veena Kumar and other guests –
Mrs. Sneh Bijlani (Treasurer, D.E.I) and Mrs. Kiran Nath (Retired Dean, Faculty of Education,
Presently Principal DEI Day Boarding School).
Co-Prefect of the hostel Ms Pragati Garg (PhD scholar) presented the yearly report where all the details
regarding the solar energy, food, sanitation, computer and library facilities were covered from top to
toe. After the presentation of the annual report, girls of the hostel presented a group song through which
they successfully delivered the message that GOD is not present in idols; rituals but the presence of
almighty can be felt in the alluring nature.

To show the gratitude and love girls of Education Faculty presented a melodious Quawwali….
“ nigahe karam kya
Idhar ho rahi hai
Mukkaddar kae merae
sahar ho rahi hai”
Little buds i.e., girls of Prem Viddyalay performed a skit entitled “kya khoya kya paya” through which
they revealed what one gains being a part of hostel, where we are taught to conserve natural resources
like water, solar power etc and live in harmony with each other in all circumstances.
After the skit, girls gave a thrilling dance performance, in which the courage and strength of a woman,
her sufferings and deep love was emphasized and talked about.

Cultural Programmes not only entertained but were also thought provoking. Later, prize distribution
was done by the chief Guests Mrs.Veena Kumar and Mrs.Kiran Nath, girls were given certificates and
gifts for their excellent performances in sports and culturals as a token of encouragement.
Few words of appraisal and love were shared by Mrs.
Kiran Nath to the students and hostel staff, she
congratulated entire hostel and also the chief warden
Prof. Mani Sharma under whose guidance the
activities are conducted smoothly in the hostel.
Last but not the least Prof. Mani Sharma (Chief
Warden) shared obligation to all the guests for
imparting their valuable time. Whole hostel staff and
students were given a box of refreshment containing
delicious sweets and snacks.
