8. Objectives of the project
a. To mobilize and aware village community on bio-sand water filters and its benefits.
b. To install 150 bio-sand water filters thereby improving people’s access to safe
drinking water by their own participation at low cost.
c. To generate awareness of the prevailing hazardous drinking water conditions and
water-borne diseases.
d. To educate people on the use of bio-sand water filters and keeping the filters clean
and maintained.
e. To promote replication.
9. Activities implemented during the reporting period
a. Prepared bio-sand water filters as per standard norms.
b. Distributed bio-sand water filters at homes.
c. Organized awareness and motivation programs.
d. Organized demonstration workshops.

Yes. Above mentioned activities were successfully realized during the reporting period.

11. Problem faced/being faced
There is a general feeling found among the local people about RO water filters. They
think that RO is better than bio-sand water filters. However, awareness generation and
motivation programs, demo and distribution of pamphlets and posters have
successfully reduced this wrong feeling of the people. Now, they are fully convinced
about the use of bio-sand water filters in their daily life. We received full cooperation
from the local community for the implementation of the activities.
12. Outcome achieved
♦ Distribution and installation of 44 filters at homes helped in reduction of water-
borne diseases and the promotion of a healthy society.
♦ 4 awareness and motivation camps organized that helped people know about the
bio-sand water filters and its benefits in their life.
♦ 3 demonstration workshops helped people on the uses and maintenance of filters.
♦ The project has popularized the use of bio-sand filters in the area.

CASE STUDIES
Case Study-1
Rekha Kumari W/O Pintu Sah is a resident of Vill. Madapur Choubey, Muzaffarpur. A BSF is
installed in her home with the support of ASS on 2-2-2017. She is very happy with the result of
drinking the clean water of BSF. She said that her family (11 members) consumes 15-20 Liter of
drinking water daily from the BSF. They earlier have to drink the contaminated water of well
which cause a lot of problem by various stomach diseases like gastric and stomach pain. But
now these diseases are solved by the regular use of BSF. Rekha thanks ASS team for their
support for BSF.
Case Study-2
Nitu Kumari W/O Chandan Sah is a resident of Vill. Bajitpur Kodaria, Muzaffarpur. There are 12
members in the family. A BSF is installed in her home with the support of ASS. She said that
now they filter water 6 times in a day. Their neighbors also sometimes take drinking water from
them. Earlier, when they do not use filter water there were the problems of the toothache,
stomach pain and gastric. Now, these water-related problems are reducing. They all are very
happy with the installation of BSF. Other villagers are also looking forward to it.
Case Study-3
Rajesh Kumar S/O Shivjee Thakur is a resident of Vill. Rupwara, Muzaffarpur. Rajesh Kumar
said that that BSF was installed in his home in 2017. There are 7 members in the family. They
are feeling better now after the consumption of BSF water. They do filter water 5 times in a day.
Their neighbors also sometimes take drinking water from them. Earlier, there was pain in the
body of the family members. Now after the use of filter water, the pain has reduced and they
are feeling better. He is very happy with the installation of BSF.
