ClubsQ&AThis WeekChelseaPayneRag president

What advice would you give new students?Do as much as possible! University is not just about study, get as much out of Uni life as you can. That way you’ll really make the most of it.What can students expect from RAG this year? We’ll have loads of different challenges this year, including Climb Kilimanjaro, Trek to Ma-chu Picchu, Cycle Vietnam, Lost, Leggit, Tough Guy & Sponsored Sky Dive. Rag will also be working with the the Mayor of Poole on some projects within the local community. How did you first get involved with RAG?I took part in Leggit in first year and the expe-rience made me want to run for a committee position in my 2nd year! What’s left on your BU bucket list? Everything! I don’t like to plan it, but I try to be prepared to do anything and I’ll find a way to do it. What’s your favourite thing about Bourne-mouth?The beach - it’s got to be!

Dylan’s bar)!

O ver the summer, as many of you will have noticed, Dylan’s bar has undergone a major facelift. Dylan’s last had a revamp nearly ten years

ago - back in the days when smoking in bars was allowed and beer was the biggest seller. Since then, food sales have taken over in Dy-lan’s and last year coffee sales even overtook beer in The Loft. The new look provided an excuse to refurbish the furniture, freshen up the feel and make it more food orientated.

Extensive research with students in 2013 included over 500 responses, followed by detailed student focus groups and design submissions posted online. Since then, £70,000 has been invested in the construc-tion, creating a fresh, welcoming place to relax and unwind.

Whats New? Research last term sought to find

out how people felt about Dylan’s quality, service, price, range and what their favourites were. Most feedback asked for consistency and speed so the updated menus focus on a new

fast service lunchtime section and special evening meal deal promotions. In addition we have improved the offer of more nutritious options, Starbucks coffee and hot subs!

Also, you can now guarantee a seat by booking a table in advance. Students can even hire a table, part of the bar or the entire bar for private parties for anything from a small birthday dinner to a huge course social - even on weekends! Simply email: [email protected] and look out for a new text booking service coming soon!Best BitsPromotions: Skint Wednesday’s (meals for £3), Weekend 2 for 1 on main meals, Friday night Classic Combos (meal & a drink) – check out the new menu cards. Kareoke Thursdays!

Based on student feedback, Dylan’s kitchen & Bar has gone under a luxurious makeover for the new year

DYLAN’S GETS A REVAMP

DYLAN’S QUIZ

A firm favourite last year, the quiz will be continuing at 8pm on Tuesday nights with witty team names, cheap food and drink to share and enough trivia to keep Stephen Fry quiet.

HELLOIn the meantime, we hope you enjoy an unforgettable

Arrivals period and are making the most of the fantastic events on offer.

Remember, both the Arrivals Guide and the Term 1 Events Calendar are available from subu.org.uk, so you can continue ticking things off your BU bucket list!

We’d also like to take this opportunity to offer our sincerest thanks to our amazing Welcome Crew, who are donating their time to help new students during arrivals. Without them, BU Arrivals simply wouldn’t be possible.

That’s all from us. Look out for the next issue of SUB-Urbia in two weeks’ time.Annie, Sophie, John & Murray

We’re your four Full-Time Student Union Officers, elected to represent your views to the University and continuously better your student experience.

With a new look for 2013, SUBUurbia is your fortnightly snapshot on the world of SUBU, and all we’ve got on.

A lot has changed since last year. In addition to the Dylan’s makeover, the stairwell up to SUBU has been com-pletely refurbished with new visuals and an updated website featuring information on our new democratic structure,. There is also a new ‘Ideas’ page where you can submit your feedback and suggestions directly for us to act upon.

This is going to be a massive year for SUBU, and this is the place to hear us shouting about all the great things BU students are achieving, including volunteering, media, sports and clubs. We’ll also keep you updated on all ways we are working for you, so get the very best out of University.

AND WELCOME
