COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented wake-up call’ for all inhabitants of Mother Earth. We are closely monitoring the pandemic of COVID-19, the illness caused by the novel coronavirus. IIITB Faculty/ Staff / Students / Startups & Associates are using ingenuity and flexibility to help people affected by coronavirus; some of them have joined the frontline and also are helping.

COVID-19 Relief Work

A brief about initiative.

When the Covid-19 pandemic struck our country and Bangalore in particular, the first victims who were hit very hard were migrant labourers working in various sectors

in Bangalore. For the migrant laborers, the lock down which was imposed on them as a perceived cure turned out to be life threatening than the disease itself. They lost their daily wages and were deprived of even a day’s meal. There were thousands of such labourers and their families in Electronic City too.

Electronics City Industrial Township Authority (ELCITA) which recognized the problem approached IIITB for assistance. IIITB Faculty Staff and Alumni members wholeheartedly responded to an appeal to provide succour to the migrant labourers and contributed magnanimously.

IIITB started the operations of cooking food for 1000 plus migrant labourers in its campus food court and supplying the same to ELCITA team which distributed the food packets to the needy people in a door to door delivery operation. The operations started on April 11, 2014 and ended on May 04, 2020 (24 days). The food distribution mainly took place in two areas - Electronic City and KR Puram.

I thank IIITB for the generosity during these trying times.ELCITA has distributed over 13000 meals and over 1300 ration packets. Plan is to distribute 5000 packets. We are also distributing soaps to enable them to wash hands. ELCIA Trust and companies have sponsored the dry ration packets. Now IIITB has joined in helping hungry people.
