Adopt-A-Park ProgramIf your group is looking for a way to make a difference in our community, why not consider adopting a Leavenworth City park or other landscaped public area?What Does Adopting a Park Require? Participants can choose from a variety of tasks, to include establishing a presence in the parks and reporting vandalism and maintenance problems, picking up litter, painting, weeding, or gardening. Donations also may be made for park improvements. City staff will provide guidance and some materials for projects.How Do I Adopt a Park? Once this is established, a sign will be erected in the park with your group’s name and logo.
Legacy Tree ProgramCommemorate a special person or event with a living legacy. For a $200 fee, a tree will be planted and a plaque erected at the planting site. Request forms are available at the Parks and Recreation Office.

Leavenworth Landing Park Now completley reopened, this scenic park on the Missouri River (Esplanade and Cherokee Streets) is available to rent for special occasions.
Permit fees for either the Paddlewheel Plaza or the Railroad Roundhouse are $15 per hour ($20 for non-City residents) with a $100 refundable damage deposit. All fees are due when a permit is requested. The Bridge Tender’s Building, which has recently undergone a beautiful renovation, rents for $20 per hour with a $20 refundable deposit.
The park, which is adjacent to the Riverfront Community Center and historic downtown Leavenworth, also connects to the Three-Mile-Creek Trail at the south end of the Leavenworth Landing Park walkway.

Wollman Aquatic Center PassesSeason passes and 10-punch passes will be sold at the Wollman Aquatic Center May 21-25 (M-F), 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. From May 28-July 31, passes will be sold from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Each person will receive one photo ID card with a season membership. Replacement cards are $5 each. Passes are good for the 2012 season only.

Swimming LessonsThe Leavenworth Parks and Recreation Department provides American Red Cross swim programs for children, teens and adults. Certified instructors will provide you with a supportive environment in which to learn and obtain skills. All summer Learn to Swim classes will be taught at the Wollman Aquatic Center. Students must be registered by NOON the Friday before the session starts.
The prerequisite for each level is the successful demonstration of the skills from the preceding level, except for Level 1, which has no prerequisite. Each level of Learn-to-Swim includes training in basic water safety and helping others in an emergency. Cost for a session of lessons is $35 for residents and $40 for non-residents.

Leavenworth Riptides Swim Team Swimmers compete in the East Kansas Swim League against swimmers of equal ability. Open to youth ages 5-18. Age groups for swimming are: 6 and under, 8 and under,10 and under,11-12, 13-14, and 15 and over. Team swim suits are an optional purchase. Field ReservationsPractices: Adult City softball teams must reserve practice fields in person at the Parks and Recreation Office. Each team is allowed one hour per day, twice per week. Youth Coaches may schedule three practices in a two-week period.
Tournament FeesFields are available for rent for tournaments. Fees are per field, per day with or without light use. Must apply and pay in advance at the Parks and Recreation Office.

Rain-Out Line: 913-758-1467 A notice will be recorded weekdays by 4 p.m., and weekends by 8 a.m. (morning games), noon (afternoon games) or 4 p.m. (night games). Dog Manners and Obedience ClassesDog trainer, Kim Downing, will teach you and your four-legged friend the basic commands. Geared for dogs ages 4 months and up. Dogs must be current on vaccinations. Classes are held Saturday mornings at the RFCC and cost $80. Level I is the foundation-level class, while Level II deals with more difficult and refined skills and is only open to those who have completed Level I. The classes are intended to cover a seven-week curriculum. The first week is without the dog. Dates: Session 1 - May 12 - June 23; Session 2 - July 7 - Aug. 8 Times: Level 1 - 10 - 11 a.m.; Level 2 - 11:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.
Bridge ClassA great beginner class for those interested in learning to play bridge. Class meets on Fridays from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.Fees: $40 for six weeks.

APRIL 27th - Arbor Day Celebration and Riverfront Park Bathhouse Grand Opening kicks off at 11 a.m.
MAY12th - “Live at the Hollywood Theater” Concert Series featuring The Toni Gates Ensemble and The Makuza Latin Jazz Ensemble. The concert will be held at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center (500 Delaware St.) at 8 p.m. All seats are $25 and include an artists’ reception before the concert. Tickets are available at our downtown outlets or on-line at LeavenworthConcertSeries.org.
15th - Hawthorn Park’s New Ball Fields Grand Opening kicks off at 5:15 p.m.
30th - Sportsfield TeeBall Field Grand Opening kicks off at 5 p.m.
JUNE2nd - National Trails Day Celebration and Five-Mile Creek Trail Pedestrian Bridge Grand Opening. The ribbon cutting ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m., followed by a walk down the trail.
17th - Father’s Day at Wollman Aquatic Center. Fathers get in FREE on Sunday with a paid child and two cans of food for a local food bank.
23rd - Dad and Me Campout. Come out to Wollman Park on Saturday and get away from it all! Pitch your tent on the grass and enjoy a night of swimming at the Aquatic Center, games, s’mores, and star gazing from 8 p.m.- 8 a.m. We’ll even serve breakfast! Pre-register at the Riverfront Community Center and show your receipt at the park. (Limit of 20 tents) Fee: $25 for dad or mom and 1 child, $5 each extra child.
JULY18th - Teens Only Night at Wollman Aquatic Center. Teens ages 13-18 pay $1 admission on Wednesday from 8- 9:30 p.m. (with ID showing proof of age; pool passes not valid)
27-28th - The River City Community Players will be featuring “Happy Days – A New Musical” on the last Friday and Saturday of July, plus the first two weeks of August (Aug. 3, 4, 5, 10 and 11) at the Leavenworth Performing Arts Center, at Fifth and Delaware. For reservations, call 913-682-7557. Curtain Times: 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. on Sundays.
28th - Parks and Recreation Month Celebration and the Renovated Riverfront Park Shelter Grand Opening kicks off at 11 a.m. , there will be FREE food, drinks, and entertainment featuring “The Tune Shop Summer Rock Bands.”
AUGUST4th - WAC-ky WAC-A-Thon. Kids ages 6-12 are invited to join the fun at 9 a.m. at Wollman Aquatic Center! Participants will cross the water in one of three wacky ways, ride bikes around traffic cones, and run a goofy obstacle course. Everyone will receive a t-shirt and trophy. Cost is $10 at the gate. Call 651-2203 by July 27 to register.
September4th - Pooch Pool Party. Your pooch is invited to a private pool party at the Wollman Aquatic Center. Small dogs should come from 4:30 - 6 p.m., while large dogs are invited from 6 -7:30 p.m. $5 per dog at the gate. Proceeds go to the dog park.
