NASA - JOURNEY INTO OUTER SPACE July 27-July 31Mad Science and NASA have teamed up to bring you the excitement and wonder of space in this new voyage of discovery. See the principles of thrust and propulsion at work in a real rocket launch. Explore the atmosphere on earth and beyond. Watch star dust burn, and journey through a galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars. Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create a lunar eclipse in the “mad” planetary tour. Probe the mysteries of meteors and bounce around satellite light as you learn about space phenomena. Experience the life of an astronaut as you suit up for a space flight and then perform spacecraft repairs. This is an experience that is truly out of this world! .

SCIENCE ROCKSTARS August 3-7Get ready to rock with science and wow the crowd with cool potions and chemical reactions. Grow your own crystals, make sidewalk chalk, and a chromatography t-shirt to keep. Picture yourself on stage as Sir Isaac Newton as we experiment with inertia and gravity and learn what football players, ballet dancers and scientists have in common. Explore how equipment and movement work together to help you enjoy

your favorite sports. Then learn all about visual effects in photography and movie-making as we examine how a camera work, how film captures light and stores images, and how filmmakers make images move. Finally, go mad with structures and machines as you build a geodesic dome you can sit inside. Discover how simple machines such as pulleys, wedges, screws and levers make our lives easier and then build a catapult to keep.

Camps

Mad Science CampsMad Science is the international leader in educational and entertaining science programs for children 6 to 12. Their goal is to spark the imagination and curiosity of children everywhere through fun, entertaining and educational science related programs.

GROSSOLOGY - June 15-19Ewwwww, Gross! You’ve never had so much fun with the ooey, gooey and GROSS things of science! Join us as we get down and dirty with earthworms and learn how they and other bugs help us with composting. Show some guts as you process food in your Digestor Inspector and see what systems make our bodies go. Have some good, rotten fun with garbage decomposition and see how important water is for everything! You’ll learn about the power of chemistry, how it affects matter (the stuff everything is made of) and get to make your own totally yucky polymer slime to keep! Just don’t describe this stuff during dinner!

FLIGHT ACADEMY June 22-26It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s...everything from the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights. Junior Giants BaseballIn cooperation with the San Francisco Giants and the City of Tracy is once again pleased to offer our Junior Giants Youth Baseball program, the City’s largest single recreation program. Each year this program reaches capacity in most age divisions with over 500 local youth participating. Relying heavily on parents and volunteers, Junior Giants reaches into the community and offers children a chance to learn the basics of baseball, but more importantly they learn sportsmanship, teamwork, trustworthiness, respect, responsibility

and fairness.

The program is open to both boys and girls and separate leagues are offered for the following age groups: 5-6 year olds, 7-8 year olds, 9-10 year olds and 11-13 year olds. Age divisions are based on the participant’s age as of June 1, 2015. League games begin play the week of June 30 and ends the week of August 14th.

Junior Giants is different than most other youth sports programs in the following ways: * It is a non-competitive league * It is a free program * It focuses on many life skills, not just sports * Pitching machines are used

Participants will practice and play games each week at various City ball fields. Each participant will receive a complimentary Giants cap and Junior Giants t-shirt. They will also be eligible to participate in several Junior Giants programs that offer prizes and awards. And, best of all, the program is FREE!

Location: Tracy Sports ComplexFee: FREEDays: Tu-ThDates: June 30-August 14Deadline to Register: May 17Play begins the week of June 30 and ends the week of August 14th.

Coaches Needed for Junior GiantsGiving to our youth and our community is a positive way to improve the lives of others. Volunteering as a coach in the City of Tracy’s Junior Giants program provides you with an opportunity to have a positive impact on the youth of our community. The Junior Giants program is free non-competitive baseball league that offers participants with an excellent opportunity to learn the basics of the game in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. In addition to helping our youth to learn the importance of self-esteem, respect, teamwork, sportsmanship, responsibility and fairness, the program also offers special programs to improve reading and basic social skills. This free program is for local children ages 5 through 13. To conduct this program, we need volunteers to coach teams in the league. No coaching experience is necessary as the Junior Giants offer coaching clinics and training DVDs to assist new or inexperienced volunteers on proper methods to teach the skills of the game. The program runs from late June through the second week of August. Come by our office to sign up to become a volunteer coach. You and the youth you coach will be glad you did. For more information on coaching, call (209) 831-6200.

Junior Giants League Orientation & Roster Check Day

Our Junior Giants program has become the largest single recreation program offered to the community by the City. Over 500 local youth participate in the league and many are turned away as most age divisions fill early. To ensure that those registered are committed to the program and ensure that parents complete the required Junior Giants participant forms, we have scheduled two separate MANDATORY orientation meetings. The parents and players registered are required to attend one of these meetings. In addition to the completion of the required forms, the meeting will provide information on the philosophy and structure of the league and explain the various programs offered through Junior Giants. In addition to registering early for this program, attending this orientation meeting secures your child’s spot on one of our teams. Mark your calendar now.
