In accordance with the Rule 3.8, the Institute provides summer course facility to the students having“FR/XX” grades to clear their backlogs by redoing courses with adequate rigor, provided it is offered. Aminimum number of 5 students should register for a course and the faculty concerned should also agree torun the course in a summer (a detailed guideline is enclosed). Subsequent to the Spring Semester 20162017,the summer term of the Institute will start from 9/5/2017 to 26/6/2017. (Please refer Academic Calendar). Kindly provide this information latest by 24/4/2017, so that students canaccordingly be informed to register for the summer term and complete necessary formalities before thecommencement of the summer courses.

Guidelines to be followed for offering a Summer Course
The summer term is not a regular semester. However, during a summer term, an academic entity may offer asummer course to enable the students to clear their backlog courses and/or regular credit courses, subject tostrict adherence to the following guidelines.
i. The course instructor/(s) / faculty/(ies) should be willing to offer the course. The DUGC shouldrecommend offering of such a summer course for consideration and approval of the Dean ofAcademic Programmes. The course is offered on approval of the Dean of Academic Programmes.
ii. The course is offered with adequate rigor and in the same manner as a regular semester course isoffered. Students who have no backlog, can also register for a summer course, provided it is offered.
iii. The duration of the course is eight to ten weeks. The registration, examination and assessment andgrading etc. are done in the same way as is done for regular semester courses. The total number ofcontact hours for the courses remains the same as that during the regular semesters, and therefore, thecourses run at accelerated pace. (for example 6 hours of instructions per week is expected for a 300course) The Academic Calendar in this connection are strictly followed.
a) Registration for Summer Course : on or before 8/5/2017b) Duration of Summer Course : 9/5/2017 to 26/6/2017c) Examinations : 27/6/2017 to 30/6/2017d) Last date for showing answers scripts : 3/7/2017d) Last date for grade submission : 4/7/2017
iv. The dropping of a Summer Course is permitted within 7 days from the first lecture of the course. Feeis not refundable.
v. Reexam is permitted on the same terms and conditions as for a course in the regular semester. Thereexaminations, if any, will be scheduled with those for the Spring semester.
vi. Time slots will be assigned by or communicated to the Academic Office as for the regular semestercourses.
vii. A student can register for a summer course if he/she (a) has a backlog in the same course OR (b) has 3or more backlogs in other courses and those courses are not running as summer course.
viii. The Instructors will award a “FR” grade to students who fail to adhere to 80% attendance for thesummer course.
ix. Atleast 05 students should register for the summer course. The attendance record should bemaintained and the minimum of 80% attendance is compulsory.
x. The number of credits registered by a student for summer course can be upto a maximum of 18 creditsdepending upon the backlog.
xi. Courses offered in a summer term will be treated as equivalent to a regular semester courses for allaccounting purposes.
xii. An amount of Rs.500/ per credit be charged for the summer course. A typical 6 credit courserequires a fee of Rs.3,000/. No summer fee for SC/ST/PD students.
