    PRESENT SIMPLE

    1. USE1. To express the idea that an action is repeated or usual. The action can be a habit, ahobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also besomething a person often forgets or usually does not do.

    I get up at half past seven every morningThey play tennisShe never eats fishYou always forget your homework

    2. It can also indicate the speaker believes that a fact was true before, is true now, andwill be true in the future. It is also used to make generalizations about people or things.

    3. We also use it to talk about scheduled events in the near future. This is most commonlywhen talking about public transportation, but it can be used with other scheduled events aswell.

    PRESENT CONTINUOUS1. USE

    1. To express the idea that something is happening now, at the same time we speak. It

    can also be used to show that something is not happening now.You are learning English now.Are you sleeping?I am sitting.

    They are reading their books.What are you doing?

    Why aren't you doing your homework?

    2. Sometimes, we use the Present Continuous to say that we are in the process of doing along action which is in progress; however, we might not be doing it at this exact second.

    I am studying to become a doctor.I am reading the book Tom Sawyer.Are you working on any special projects?

    Aren't you teaching at the university now?

    3. To speak about plans and arrangements that will or will not happen in the near future.I am meeting some friends after work.I am not going to the party tomorrowIs he visiting his parents next weekend?I am flying to Tokyo next Saturday

    PAST SIMPLE

    1. USE 1. To speak about an action that started and finished at a specific time in the past.Sometimes, the speaker may not actually mention the specific time, but s/he knows thatthe action took place in a past time and it already finished.

    I saw a movie yesterday.Last year, I travelled to Japan.

    Did she pass the exam?He didn't wash his car.

    You didnt do your homework

    It does not matter how far the past we speak of is, the important thing is that the periodwe consider is over

    It is 1 in the afternoon and I say: Im very hungry because this morning I didnthave breakfast I use the past simple because we are now in the afternoon, so the morning hasfinished

    2. Sometimes instead of a single action we speak of several actions in the pastI finished work, walked to the beach, and found a nice place to swim.

    He arrived from the airport at 8:00, checked into the hotel at 9:00, and met theothers at 10:00.

    PAST CONTINUOUS1. USE

    1. To speak about the development of an action in the past. We dont usually use thepast continuous in isolation but together with the past simple. The past continuousindicates the longer action interrupted by another action expressed with the past simple.

    I was watching TV when she called.When the phone rang, she was writing a letter.

    While we were having a picnic, it started to rain.What were you doing when the earthquake started?

    I was listening to my iPod, so I didn't hear the fire alarm.

    2. In some cases, we can also use a specific time instead of past simple as aninterruption.

    Last night at 6 PM, I was eating dinner.At midnight, we were still driving through the desert.Yesterday at this time, I was sitting at my desk at work.

    3. It also can be used to speak about two actions that were happening at the same time.The actions are parallel.

    I was studying while he was making dinner.While Ellen was reading, Tim was watching television.

    Were you listening while he was talking?I wasn't paying attention while I was writing the letter, so I made several mistakes.

    4. To speak about repeated actions in the past that annoyed usShe was always coming to class late.He was constantly talking. He annoyed everyone.

    We can use the Present Perfect to describe and ask about experiences. We can also usePresent Perfect to say that we or another people have never had certain experiences.

    With the Present Perfect we use expressions such as: once , many times , several times , ever ,never before.

    Ever is used in questionsEx: Have you ever played tennis with Nadal?Has she ever driven a car?

    Never is used in negative sentences with the verb in affirmativeEx: I have never played tennis with Nadal

    -We already know that we use Present Perfect tense to talk about actions which started in the

    past and continue up to the present.

    -FOR: Sometimes we are interested in how long the action has been happening. In this case

    we use for .

    -SINCE : In other cases, we are more interested in the moment the action began . Then, weuse since

    -Look at the example

    Our grandparents are going to celebrate their gold anniversary and our friends ask some

    questions about it:

    How long have been them married?

    -They have been married FOR fifty years

    Oh! That is a long time. When did they marry?

    -They have been married SINCE 1959

    -We use FOR with periods of time: two hours, three days, a week, four months, a year, etc.

    and to answer question beginning with How long?

    -We use SINCE with specific dates or moments : five oclock, Monday, January, 2000 and

    when the sentence is followed by another sentence containing a past

    -JUST : We use just when we speak about something that happened a short time ago

    - Present perfect with JUST is similar to the Spanish expression ACABAR DE + INFINITIVO

    -Just goes between the verb have and the past participle:
