A composer who outlived his era and a pianist not afraid of musical challenges. That’s how you could describe this intriguing evening, during which pianist Gabrielius Alekna will be playing works by Vytautas Bacevičius.V. Bacevičius was one of the most original and progressive composers in interwar Lithuania. Hiswork is overwhelmingly considered the golden classic of Lithuanian modernism, and is not intended for carefree relaxation – neither for the audience, much less for the performer, of whom special concentration is demanded. But it appears this does not frighten G. Alekna, quite the opposite. According to the Fanfare magazine, Alekna is considered a critical figure in the revival of this composer’s music. The performer’s ability to masterfully perform exceptionally difficult works has delighted not only critics, but Grammy-nominated music producers as well.

For many, the word “jazz” symbolizes freedom, yet not everyone is aware of just how multi-faceted, richly coloured and flavoured this genre really is.Yet pianist Dmitri Golovanov knows his way around his own kitchen, not to mention his experiments with various repertoires – from jazz classics to electroacoustic offerings. And this probably explains why his playing charms listeners for its special expression: a perfectly controlled sound, memorable melodic lines and pulsating rhythms, “charging” each member of the audience.Asked what jazz desserts can be expected at this concert, the pianist smiles: “Many improvisations, as improvization is a miracle, lasting only for that moment when it happens. It is not a result but a process, that is impossible to repeat, stop or explain”.

Thus, Ania Losinger takes the stage, wearing flamenco shoes, and holding two long (about a person’s height) sticks, and the xala comes to life, bringing on the magic of sound and movement.For the first time in Lithuania, the duo of dancer Ania Losinger and composer, percussionist Mats Eser will transport you to the city that never sleeps or rests, the “Dragon City” – Shanghai.The dancer’s expressive body language and acrobatic hand movements convey the city’s soul, while the rhythms of the percussion instruments set the pace to which one of the world’s largest cities lives.A spell-binding sight, impossible to resist.

Johannes Ebenbauer inherited his love for music from his organist grandfather. That probably why Ebenbauer did not hesitate in choosing the life of a musician. And as the performer himself admits, he was not wrong – he could not imagine a day in his life without the rumble of the organ.J. Ebenbauer is not just a regular concert performer, he also contributes greatly to the fostering and spread of sacred music. He is the artistic director of the association Musica Sacra Wien and the organ music festival Quintessenz, and the initiator of a concert cycle of vocal-instrumental music at the Otto Wagner Church. In 2010 J. Ebenbauer made his debut as a conductor, and in 2013 he became a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna (of the organ and improvization class).We must also add that this organist is an excellent improvizationist, so his performance will be crowned by an improvization on a theme suggested by the audience.
