Father: Dear brothers and sisters, let us praise the Lord our God for this water he has created, and

which will be sprinkled on us as a memorial of our Baptism. May he help us by his grace to remain

faithful to the Spirit we have received.

Having been dipped in the aspersorium (container filled with Holy Water), the priest uses the

aspergillum (wand or brush that holds the Holy Water) to bless those present.

I Saw Water Flowing Father: May almighty God cleanse us of our sins, and through the Eucharist we celebrate make us worthy to sit at his table in his heavenly kingdom.

THE LITURGY OF THE WORD We will now hear two readings from the lectionary. The lectionary is a collection of scripture. First Reading: Today’s first reading is from the Acts of the Apostles, chapter 2, verses 14 and 22-33 Reader: A reading from the Acts of the Apostles Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice, and proclaimed: “You who are Jews, indeed all of you staying in Jerusalem. Let this be known to you, and listen to my words. You who are Israelites, hear these words. Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you by God with mighty deeds, wonders, and signs, which God worked through him in your midst, as you yourselves know. This man, delivered up by the set plan and foreknowledge of God, you killed, using lawless men to crucify him. But God raised him up, releasing him from the throes of death, because it was impossible for him to be held by it. For David says of him: I saw the Lord ever before me, with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed. Therefore my heart has been glad and my tongue has exulted; my flesh, too, will dwell in hope, because you will not abandon my soul to the netherworld, nor will you suffer your holy one to see corruption. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence. “My brothers, one can confidently say to you about the patriarch David that he died and was buried, and his tomb is in our midst to this day. But since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn an oath to him that he would set one of his descendants upon his throne, he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he abandoned to the netherworld nor did his flesh see

corruption. God raised this Jesus; of this we are all witnesses. Exalted at the right hand of God, he re-ceived the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father and poured him forth, as you see and hear.”

Reader: The Word of the Lord Respond: Thanks be to God Responsorial Psalm: The Responsorial Psalm is taken from the Book of Psalms. Today’s Responsorial is taken from Psalm 16, verses 1-2, 9-10

Please join in singing the refrain below after the cantor and after each verse. Second Reading: The Second Reading in typically taken from the New Testament. Today’s reading is from 1 Peter, chapter 1, verses 3-9.

Reader: A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time. In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials, so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls. Second Reading: The Second Reading in typically taken from the New Testament. Today’s reading is from 1 Peter, chapter 1, verses 17-21.

Reader: A reading from the first letter of Saint Peter Beloved: If you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning, realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold but with the precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished lamb. He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you, who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Reader: The Word of the Lord Respond: Thanks be to God

The Gospel: Today’s Gospel is from Luke, chapter 24, verses 13-35 Father: The Lord be with you. Respond: And with your spirit. Father: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John As we respond we make a small cross with our thumbs on our forehead then our lips and finally on

our hearts to signify that the Word of God is in our minds, on our lips and in our hearts.

Respond: Glory to you, O Lord

That very day, the first day of the week, two of Jesus’ disciples were going to a village seven miles from Jerusalem called Emmaus, and they were conversing about all the things that had occurred. And it happened that while they were conversing and debating, Jesus himself drew near and walked with them, but their eyes were prevented from recognizing him. He asked them, “What are you discussing as you walk along?” They stopped, looking downcast. One of them, named Cleopas, said to him in reply, “Are you the only visitor to Jerusalem who does not know of the things that have tak-en place there in these days?” And he replied to them, “What sort of things?” They said to him, “The things that happened to Jesus the Nazarene, who was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people, how our chief priests and rulers both handed him over to a sentence of death and crucified him. But we were hoping that he would be the one to redeem Israel; and besides all this, it is now the third day since this took place. Some women from our group, however, have astounded us: they were at the tomb early in the morning and did not find his body; they came back and reported that they had indeed seen a vision of angels who announced that he was alive. Then some of those with us went to the tomb and found things just as the women had described, but him they did not see.” And he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are! How slow of heart to believe all that the prophets spoke! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” Then beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he interpreted to them what referred to him in all the Scriptures. As they approached the village to which they were going, he gave the impression that he was going on farther. But they urged him, “Stay with us, for it is nearly evening and the day is almost over.” So he went in to stay with them. And it happened that, while he was with them at table, he took bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them. With that their eyes were opened and they recognized him, but he vanished from their sight. Then they said to each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?” So they set out at once and returned to Jerusalem where they found gathered together the eleven and those with them who were saying, “The Lord has truly been raised and has appeared to Simon!” Then the two recounted what had taken place on the way and how he was made known to them in the breaking of bread.

Profession of Faith:

Please join Father in reciting the Nicene Creed below:

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,

of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,

born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light,

true God from true God, begotten, not made,

consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

At the words that follow, up to and including “and became man,” all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and

was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead

and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the

Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,

who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the

forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead

and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Reader: For Bishop Ricken’s April intention that inspired by the humble example of the fatherhood of St. Joseph, men may strive to be worthy servants and disciples who help lead their families and com-munities into the Kingdom of God. We pray to the Lord. Respond: Lord, hear our prayer

Priest: Join me in the prayer to St. Joseph.

Good St. Joseph, as you led the Holy Family, watch over our families.

Help our family and all families to know and share God’s love.

In our family relationships, may we find healing and seek to be holy.

May our fathers help us to become faithful disciples of Jesus who share our love for Him.

As foster father of Jesus, watch over all who serve as spiritual fathers.

In a special way, bless our Holy Father, our Bishop, and our priests.

May they follow your humble example in their fatherly care for the people of God, the Church.

With Mary, you raised the High Priest. You know our need for priests.

Please raise up good and holy priests from our families to serve the people of our diocese.

May our children and grandchildren hear and say “yes” to the call of Jesus, just as you and Mary did.

Good St. Joseph, pray for us.

Please be seated.

Take this, all of you, and eat of it, for this is my Body,

which will be given up for you.

Bells are rung to signify the presence of the Jesus in the Eucharist. At the following words of consecration Father raises the chalice and genuflects.

for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Do this in memory of me.
