RAMBAN: District Administration Ramban commenced the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign, a fort- night-long cleanliness drive across the district here today. Education departments involving students, NCC cadets and staff members of various schools carried out cleanliness and sanitation drive in different parts of the district including Higher Secondary School, Girls High School, High School (HS) Goi, HS Batiya, HS Parnot, HS, Champa, HS, Alin Bass, GGHSS, Banihal, Doligam and HS Chanderkot. Awareness rallies and other informative and educative events were also organized on the occasion. Similarly, health depart- ment also initiated the sani- tation campaign in and around the health institu- tions of the district. Keeping in view impor- tance of the campaign, the doctors along with para- medical and other staff members took pledge for maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in their institutions for creating suitable envi- ronment to safely treat patients. District Development Commissioner, Ramban, Showkat Aijaz Bhat has already directed the depart- ments to organise activities under this fortnight cleanli- ness drive "Swachhta hi Sewa Hai" from September 15 to October 02, 2018. KATHUA: In continuance with Prime Minister's 'Swachhata Hi Seva' move- ment, Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Rohit Khajuria commenced the sanitation campaign in rural and urban areas of the district here today. The campaign will con- clude on October 2nd on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti. The campaign would be jointly conducted by Municipal Bodies, Rural Development, Education and Social Welfare Departments besides Banks operating in the district. Earlier, a pledge was also administered among the participants regarding per- sonal hygiene and sanita- tion. ADC, ADDC, ACD, ACR, DyDEO, CPO, BDOs and other officers were present on the occasion. A Pakhwara celebrations to commemorate 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was inau- gurated at Govt. Degree College for Women, Kathua. On the inauguration day, an intra college symposium was organized on the topic 'Life and Teachings of Mahatma Gandhi' in the college in which more than 10 num- bers of students expressed their views and thoughts on the said topic. Dr. Kulwinder Kour, Principal of the College was the Chief Guest. Naseem Choudhary secured first position whereas Rozina and Jagandeep Kour clinched second and third position in the symposium. The certificates and prizes were distributed to the par- ticipants and winners of the symposium. Vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Yash Pal Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the symposium and the proceedings of the program were conducted by Dr. Anita Dua of Department of Physics. STATE TIMES NEWS BASOHLI: Ramisht College Of Education Basohli celebrat- ed Hindi Divas in the multipur- pose hall of the college in which all students of B.Ed semester 1st took part. The main pur- pose of the celebration of this day is to promote and develop Hindi as a national language among all the people of the country. While expressing their views on this occasion the stu- dents emphasised that in the Indian Constitution under arti- cle 343 Hindi has been incorpo- rated as national language in Devnagri script. Therefore in order to enhance the glory and importance of this language awareness must be created among the people of all states and nation as a whole. The chairman of the college applauded the efforts of the students and faculty mem- bers to make this program suc- cessful. AKHNOOR: Department of Hindi, GDC Akhnoor celebrat- ed Hindi Diwas in the college seminar hall. Dr. Madhu Mangal Chaturvedi, Dr. Saurabh Shrivastav, Anurag Sharma, Bindu, Biraj, Mohit, Radhika Sharma, Nikhil, Kanika, Kartikey, Arnav and Ishani impressed the audience by poem recitation. Little Hotrika, mesmerised everyone with her graceful Bharatnatyam dance. Lastly, Paras Dubey, the stu- dent Secretary of Hindi Cell, briefed about the forthcoming events to be organised in the coming 14 days. He threw light on the significance of the day. REASI: Hindi Diwas was celebrated at Salal Power Station with enthusiasm and zeal. The programme was inau- gurated by Vanita Shekhar, Guest of Honour and Himanshu Shekhar, General Manager, Salal Power Station by lighting the holy lamp in association with Rakesh Goel, Chief Engineer (Civil), M.G.Ghai, Chief Engineer (Civil) and Arun Kumar Chief (HR) followed by National Anthem. Various educational institutions celebrate Hindi Diwas Elderly man dies of electrocution, two women injured STATE TIMES NEWS AKHNOOR: An elderly man was killed and two women were injured when they came in contact with a live wire on the out- skirts the city Saturday, officials said. The incident at N S Pura village in the Khour area sparked protests by the locals against the power development depart- ment, they said. The officials said a high-tension electricity wire got snapped from a pole and fell down, resulting in the death of Parmanand, 70, and severe burn injuries to Rajni Devi, 24, and Nisha, 18. A cow was also killed and a structure damaged in the fire caused by the live wire, they added. The protesting locals were demanding adequate compensa- tion to the family of the deceased and free treatment to the injured, the officials said. Police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters to disperse peacefully, they said.

Elderly man dies of electrocution,two women injured

STATE TIMES NEWSAKHNOOR: An elderly man was killed and two women wereinjured when they came in contact with a live wire on the out-skirts the city Saturday, officials said.

The incident at N S Pura village in the Khour area sparkedprotests by the locals against the power development depart-ment, they said.

The officials said a high-tension electricity wire got snappedfrom a pole and fell down, resulting in the death ofParmanand, 70, and severe burn injuries to Rajni Devi, 24,and Nisha, 18.

A cow was also killed and a structure damaged in the firecaused by the live wire, they added.

The protesting locals were demanding adequate compensa-tion to the family of the deceased and free treatment to theinjured, the officials said.

Police rushed to the spot and persuaded the protesters todisperse peacefully, they said.
