BELONGING

We welcome new disciples to our

parish communities. If you live

within our parish boundaries, which

is our mission field, then you are

already a member. It is still

important that you register at the

Parish Oce or during registration

weekends so we can communicate

with you throughout the year. We

are here to help you meet Jesus

Christ, grow in holiness, and fully

participate in a life of prayer.

Please call or stop at either parish

oce, or speak with Fr. Schuster.

We are disciples together!

Mission: Since 1883, St. Mary School has been a

welcoming community that inspires all to live, learn,

and serve as Christ taught us. In partnership with

parents and parish community, we provide a quality, Catholic

education that is focused on faith, academics, and personal growth.

PRINCIPAL’S CORNER—MR. MARC VANDENHOUTEN

I’m very blessed to be apart of the St. Mary and Holy Trinity School and Parish

Communities. Although we vary in our student population, we’re both viewed as

small schools. When being apart of small schools, there are many advantages

such as being on a first name basis with all students and parents. As a school staff

everyone considers every child to be like their child rather than just the students

assigned to their classroom.

There are also some disadvantages to having a smaller school. For example, many

of our staff members must wear different hats and carry additional responsibilities

that people in similar roles at other schools may not have to do. For me personally,

I may find myself climbing through the school attic pulling cabling one day, helping

with bathroom items the next day, before going outside to help shovel snow and

salt the sidewalks.

Why am I sharing these examples? Although we’re frequently asked to do more

things that aren’t always in our job description, we’re so blessed to have two

wonderful school staff that are willing to do anything to help our students and

families, no matter what the personal cost or sacrifice might be. This past week

Father Schuster and several employees and volunteers stepped up to help cook

lunch for 92 students when we were short-handed. This doesn’t happen at other

places and we’re very blessed to have the teachers, staff and volunteers we do! If

you get the chance, please consider saying thank you to the teachers and staff at

Holy Trinity and St. Mary Schools for all they do.

RENTAL OF OUR PARISH AND

SCHOOL HALLS

As Catholic parishes, we exist to

glorify God and share the Gospel with

our local communities. One of the

ways that we can be welcoming is to

open our doors for private events that

are in accord with our Catholic Faith.

Each group must book their event

through the parish oce and sign an

agreement with a liability waiver. In

order to recover the cost of lights,

janitorial services, and help support

our mission, a fee schedule applies:

 $100 for parishioners

 $125 for non-parishioners

 Non-Profit groups will only be

asked to consider making a

donation towards our mission

Page 5: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2019 | 26TH SUNDAY IN ...2019/09/29  · SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2019 | 26TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME HOLY TRINITY MASS TIMES: Saturday: 7:30 pm | Sunday: 9:00 am

We all have our favorites. St. Therese of Lisieux happens to be my favorite saint (other than Mary) and I

would like to take a moment to share her with you since her Feast Day is Tuesday, October 1st. I first met St.

Therese near the end of high school. Two girls that I knew were talking about how St. Therese helped

answer some of their prayers. As I listened in to the girls’ stories, it seemed like there was a saint who liked

to interact with people on earth. Therese wrote in her autobiography, Story of a Soul (which everyone

should read), "My mission—to make God loved—will begin after my death," she said. "I will spend my heaven

doing good on earth. I will let fall a shower of roses." My devotion began because St. Therese seemed alive

and active and people had the stories to prove it! I discovered some devotional prayers featuring St.

Therese in the blue Pieta prayer book that one of the girls often used and I started experimenting.

I started studying her writings in college during a di-cult time in life. I found that St. Therese, who died at

age 24, was everything I hoped to be in her spiritual approach. She was humble, she didn’t care to be

noticed, she spoke about her desire for Jesus boldly without

reserve, she thought about heaven all the time, she was chaste, and

she could tell stories about her relationship with Jesus and all that

he had done to show his love to her. All of this is what I wanted for

myself. She was a poet too! I wanted to love Jesus and others the

way that she did, and when I attempted to imitate her, I found

myself happier. Mostly, she gave me permission to be myself and

act like a child before God in the silly ways that I spoke to Jesus as I

went about my day. She also fell asleep when praying (like me).

My devotion created the environment in which I clearly heard Jesus

call me to be a priest with the help of Therese. In other words, she

sent me roses from heaven. I believe this saint can capture your

heart and open you up to a deeper relationship with Jesus: One that

sets you free from fear, shyness, rigidity, coldness, or doubt.
