    I/E. DERRICK’S CAR - PARKING LOT - DAY 1.1 1

    We are in the parking lot of LAINEY’s school as THERESA andDERRICK drop her off. Through the whole exchange Theresa isjust sort of staring out the window, not paying any attentionto her husband or daughter.

    DERRICKOkay sweetie, got everything?

    LAINEYYes, Daddy.

    DERRICKOkay, have a good day at school! Begood!

    Lainey opens the car door.

    LAINEYI will! I love you! Bye mommy, bydaddy.

    DERRICKBye, sweetie!

    They both sort of look expectantly at Theresa.

    LAINEYMommy?

    Derrick nudges her to get her attention.

    THERESA (disoriented)

    Huh? What?

    DERRICKYour daughter is saying goodbye.

    THERESA Oh. Bye sweetie. I love you!

    Lainey closes the door and hurries away and Derrick startsthe car and they begin to drive.

    DERRICKOk, what is going on in your headthat’s so important?

    THERESA Nothing.

    DERRICKBullshit. You’ve been checked outfor three days. It’s like you’re onautopilot. Even your Mom has asked me what’s going on with you.

    THERESA I’m just tired.

    DERRICKYou’re sure that’s all it is?

    THERESA Yes, I’m sure. How about this:tonight I’m going to ask my mom to

    keep an eye on Lainey for dinner.Why don’t we pick up something onthe way home and just relaxtogether? Sound good?

    It is obvious that this is making Derrick even moresuspicious, but he goes along with it.

    DERRICKThat sounds great. I’ll get some wine on the way to pick you up.

    THERESA 

    (louder than she wants)No wine.

    (attempting to recover)We already have some at the house,so no use spending money on sometonight.

    DERRICKOkay, okay, if you say so.

    CUT TO:

    INT. IVORY GOLF RESORT - FOYER - DAY 1.2 2

    We are in the foyer of the Ivory Golf Resort, which is farbusier than we have seen it in the past. Lots of resort staffare running around, getting things in order, gathering insmall clumps and talking amongst themselves. SPENCER standsin the center of the foyer, directing the chaos to someextent.

    This is what Theresa happens to walk in on as she comesthrough the doors on her way in. She is confused by what’sgoing on around her. Theresa spots Spencer and moves to him.

    THERESA Uncle Spencer, what’s going on?

    SPENCER(teasing)

    What, with all your sources, youdon’t know? The new COO is arrivingtoday.

    THERESA (surprised)

    Today? Are you kidding? How couldhe show up without any notice? Thatisn’t very fair to the staff!

    SPENCERPeople in his position rarely care.

    THERESA Yeah, I guess that’s true.

    Theresa pats her uncle on the shoulder and then moves backtowards her normal spot behind the desk. CLAIRE, herreceptionist coworker is there already.

    CLAIREHave you been sleeping at all? You

    look worn out.

    THERESA That’s what every girl wants tohear first thing in the morning.Thanks, Claire.

    CLAIRESorry. Of course you look great.

    (a beat)So what do you think he will belike?

    (off of Theresa’s confused

    look)The new COO.

    THERESA Oh, I don’t know. Probably anasshole. A new person in charge isalways trouble.

    CLAIREI hear that it’s the owner’s sonfrom England.

    THERESA I didn’t know the owner had a son.

    CLAIRENeither did I.

    ANGLE ON THE DOOR where we can see a black sedan pull upoutside.

    EMPLOYEE 1(nervous, to Spencer)

    The car has arrived.

    Spencer immediately shifts into business mode, striding

    towards the door. After a moment he stops, surprised.

    BACK TO THERESA, who sees what Spencer sees, and is just asshocked.

    THERESA That’s the new COO?

    ANGLE ON the door, where DANI BARNES, 40, beautiful andglamorous in a way that speaks of being wealthy but notflaunting it, has entered.

    TO SPENCER, who seems completely taken aback, and who glances

    over his shoulder towards Theresa, both of them having thesame expression, before he looks back to Dani.

    CUT TO TITLES.

    SUNSET

    INT. IVORY GOLF RESORT - FOYER - MOMENTS LATER - DAY 1.2A 2A

    We’re right where we were before the titles, Dani lookingaround the foyer, taking in the building, though she isn’tpaying too much attention to the actual people.

    Spencer recovers himself and crosses to her, but is obviouslystill put off.

    SPENCERGood morning, and welcome to theIvory Golf Resort. I am SpencerHowell, the resort’s OperationsManager.

    He extends his hand for a handshake, but Dani doesn’t takeit, and after an awkward moment he lowers his hand.

    Dani starts to walk, so Spencer joins her.

    SPENCER (CONT’D)I have arranged for two staff members to give you a guided tourof the facilities.

    DANII want you to do the tour, Mr.Howell.

    SPENCERMe?

    DANI

    I imagine you are the most familiar with the day to day operations ofthe resort, yes?

    SPENCERAs Operations Manager, yes.

    DANIThen it would be much morebeneficial for you to do the tour.You can film me in on the detailsas we go.

    Dani does not wait for his agreement, she continues to walkat a slightly faster pace, and eventually Spencer just shakeshis head and moves to catch up with her.

    CUT TO:

    EXT. SUNSET RESORT - DAY 1.3 3

    We’re in the main yard of the Sunset Resort, and it’s abeautiful day, as the shot establishes.

    INT. SUNSET RESORT - MAIN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY 1.3A 3A

    ERIN sits on the couch across from LAURENCE, 40s, handsome,an agent representative, OLIVIA next to her. Laurence isgoing through some papers and discussing things with Erin, who is in full business mode.

    LAURENCEThey’re really excited about doinga second book after the success ofthe first.

    They want to act on it whilethey’ve still got the option on it.

    ERINI’m really happy that that’s howthey feel, but Laurence, I haven’teven begun to think about anothercookbook. I’m still in full forcefilming most of the week. Doinganother cookbook would mean lots ofcooking for photographs.

    LAURENCEYes, it would, but think about it,Erin. This is the biggest advanceoffering on a cookbook I’ve everseen. I bet Paula Deen doesn’t getthis much. This is a huge

    opportunity. If you let the optionexpire any second offers you got would be half this.

    ERINI’m just trying not to think aboutall of the work that involves.Cooking, plating, prepping, writing, finding recipes--

    LAURENCEIsn’t that what you have anassistant for?

    OLIVIA If you want to do the book, ofcourse I will help in whatever wayI can.

    ERINAre you sure? You weren’t here forthe last one, you don’t know whatit was like.

    OLIVIA I’m sure, ma’am.

    Erin takes the paperwork from Laurence.

    LAURENCEThis would be good, Erin.

    ERIN(reading)

    Jesus Christ, no.

    LAURENCECome on, Erin.

    ERINYou go back and tell them that I want to pick my own photographer,and then we will have a deal.

    Gabe comes downstairs, gym bag over his shoulder as this meeting is wrapping up, Laurence and Erin moving towards thedoor.

    LAURENCEI will talk to Madeline Tilly and

    let her know what you’ve said. I’vegot a very good feeling about this,Erin. They want this bad. This canbe nothing but good for you.

    ERINThanks, Laurence. Get back to meASAP.

    Laurence turns to go, reaches out and shakes Gabe’s’s hand ashe runs into him.

    LAURENCE

    Goodbye.

    Laurence leaves.

    GABEHow was your meeting?

    ERINIt was good.

    Erin turns to Olivia, cautiously optimistic.

    ERIN (CONT’D)

    That was good, right?

    OLIVIA I think it was, yeah.

    ERINI just hope he can get her to agreeto let me pick my own photographerthis time.

    ERINThat’s great! If I end up needinghim I’ll let you know!

    GABEAlright. Later, Mom.

    (to Olivia)Goodbye.

    He exits.

    GABE is walking from the main house towards his car as CAINleaves the large guest kitchen, and they sort of meet in the middle.

    CAINI thought today was your off-day.

    GABEIt is. I’m just heading to the gym.

    CAINSince when do you work out?

    GABEMy friend has got me started going with him.

    CAINGood. You need to exercise morethan that brain of yours, Doc. Youdoing this because you’re singleagain?

    Cain pats him on the shoulder and the two head off in theirdifferent directions.

    INT. SUNSET RESORT - MAIN HOUSE - KITCHEN - DAY 1.3C 3C

    Olivia and Erin are in the kitchen shuffling through papersand such, digging up recipes and such and boxes with them,

     making a bit of a mess.

    CAIN (O.S.)Mom? Mom?

    ERINI’m in the kitchen!

    Cain comes in, sees the big mess that she’s making.

    CAINWhat are you doing?

    ERINI’ve got to start piecing togetherrecipes for a new cookbook.

    Erin opens a cabinet, reaches for a box that is too high forher.

    ERIN (CONT’D)Could you?

    Cain gets the box down, placing it on the counter.

    CAIN

    Have you forgotten that the monthlybarbecue for the guests is tonight?

    This makes Erin stop what she’s doing.

    ERINYou’re kidding right?

    CAINNope. You forgot?!

    ERINI thought it was next week. JesusChrist. I haven’t even done theshopping for it yet. Damn it, whydid it have to be today of alldays?

    OLIVIA (trying to be helpful)

    Couldn’t you just reschedule fornext week?

    CAINThe day of? My dad wouldn’t dothat.

    ERINThat’s just not an option, not the

    day of. It’s unprofessional.(to Cain)How many reservations do we have?

    CAINTwenty-eight.

    ERINAnd counting you, Sal, Zelda andWren, that’s 31.

    OLIVIA Well, if it will help, I could do

    the shopping for you.

    ERINThat’s not necessary, Olivia.

    OLIVIA Really, I don’t mind. With all thethings going on right here, you’vegot your hands full. I can do theshopping and you can do a little work on the cookbook until I getback, then I can help you with thebarbecue meal.

    ERINThat’s asking way too much of you.

    OLIVIA You’re my mentor. How else am Isupposed to learn if I don’t watchyou cook?

    By Erin’s smile it is obvious that she likes Olivia; the twohave a very nice working relationship.

    ERINFine, but you’re not going alone.Cain, do you have any divers thisafternoon?

    CAIN(cautious)

    No.

    ERINGood. Go with Olivia to help.

    This gets an immediate and visceral reaction from both Oliviaand Cain at the same time; neither of them are happy with theidea.

    OLIVIA Really, that’s not necessary.I’m sure I can manage thegroceries on my own.

    CAINShe’s a grown-up, I’m sureshe doesn’t need someonetagging along.

    Their vehemence catches Erin off guard.

    ERIN (CONT’D)Groceries for thirty people is alot to have to carry by yourself.Go together. There isn’t a lot oftime to get it done, it’ll befaster this way.

    There is no arguing on this note, and they both know it.

    OLIVIA (forcing a smile)

    Of course.

    CAINWhatever you say, mom.

    ERINThat’s better. So you two get goingand get back here as soon as

    possible.

    EXT. SUNSET RESORT - DAY 1.3D 3D

    Cain and Olivia emerge from the main house and start towardsthe parked cars.

    OLIVIA I’m parked over here.

    CAINWe’re taking my truck.

    OLIVIA Why?

    CAINBecause I’m driving.

    OLIVIA My gas mileage is compensated bythe studio. We’ll take my car.Don’t worry, the seats in the backfold down for trunk space.

    She doesn’t wait for his reply, just crosses to her car andgets in, leaving him standing there, annoyed.

    Olivia rolls down her window after a moment.

    OLIVIA (CONT’D)(saccharine sweet)

    Well, are you coming?

    Cain grumbles and reluctantly joins her. As they drive off we:

    Erin is sitting on the couch, scribbling notes as she thumbsthrough papers. After a moment the doorbell rings.

    ERINJust a second!

    She gets up and opens the door, stopping, confused.

    ERIN (CONT’D)Can I help you?

    MIRANDA (O.S.)Hi, Mrs. Howell?

    We turn and see Miranda standing in the door.

    MIRANDA (CONT’D)I’m Miranda. Gabe’s girlfriend.

    FADE TO BLACK.

    ACT TWO

    FADE IN:

    INT. HOSPITAL - MRI ROOM - DAY 1.5 5

    We find ourselves in a room with an MRI machine, watchingSAMUEL go through the machine’s test. We pull back and find we are watching this through a window, where WALTER is watching, obviously emotionally impacted by seeing his fathergo through this.

    We linger on this a few moments before:

    CUT TO:

    INT. HOSPITAL - DOCTOR’S OFFICE - DAY 1.5A 5A

    Walter and Samuel are sitting across from DOCTOR MORROW (60s,“house-call” look to him) in the doctor’s office.

    DOCTOR MORROWBased on all of the tests we’ve runthe last few weeks I can tell youthat what we’ve tried so far isn’t working. The cancer is spreading more aggressively than weanticipated. We still have plentyof time, but my suggested course ofaction would be a regiment ofchemotherapy combined with

    radiation.

    SAMUELAbsolutely not.

    WALTERDad--

    SAMUELNo. I said from the beginning thatI wasn’t going to do chemo orradiation. You were fine with thatthen, doc.

    DOCTOR MORROWBack then I had hoped that we coulduse other treatments, but nowthat’s not an option.

    SAMUELThen I guess there isn’t any optionnow.

    Samuel rises, much to Walter’s dismay. Without another wordhe leaves the office, not bothering to shut the door behindhim. Walter rises to go too.

    WALTER(to Doctor Morrow)

    I’m really sorry. I’ll talk to him.

    Doctor Morrow scribbles out a prescription and hands it toWalter.

    DOCTOR MORROWHe’s going to need this.

    WALTERThanks.

    With that Walter walks out of the office and to:

    EXT. HOSPITAL - PARKING LOT - DAY 1.5B 5B

    Samuel is already starting across the parking lot, Walterhurrying to catch up with him.

    WALTERDad, just wait a second, alright?We really need to go back in thereand talk to the doctor some more.

    SAMUELWhat for? It’s a waste of time.

    WALTERWe need to figure out how to treatthis!

    SAMUELWhat’s done is done. There’snothing else for it now.

    WALTERHow can you say? Are you justgiving up without a fight? There’splenty more you can do.

    SAMUELI’m done with this, damn it. I’mdone with the poking, the prodding,the endless tests, the medicines,the dizziness, the exhaustion, ALLOF IT. I won’t push myself to thebrink of death just to escape itfor a short time.

    What good is having a life if I’mtoo weak and feeble from treatmentto enjoy it, huh? The more timepasses the more I realize howimportant it is to be, just be.

    WALTERIf you don’t get treatment, you’regoing to die.

    SAMUELSo if I take this chemo, I’ll liveforever? We’re all destined to die.And that’s man’s real test, rightthere. Accepting it. In the end wehave no choice in the matter.

    Samuel starts walking again, towards the car.

    SAMUEL (CONT’D)Take me home, I’m tired.

    Samuel stands there, looking forlornly after his fatherbefore he walks further, joining him.

    CUT TO:

    INT. SUNSET RESORT - MAIN HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY 1.6 6

    Miranda is seated on the couch as Erin comes in with a trayof tea, handing a cup to Miranda.

    MIRANDA Thank you very much.

    ERIN(a little confused)

    You’re welcome. So, Miranda, wasit?

    (Miranda nods yes)Right. So what brings you by today?Can’t say I was expecting it.

    MIRANDA 

    I know it was a little rude of meto come unannounced, but I justreally wanted to meet Gabe’sfamily, and was nearby and figuredit would be a good time tointroduce myself.

    ERINThat’s very kind of you.

    (a beat)

    Listen, not to be rude or anything,but... how to put this? I was underthe impression that you and Gabe were no longer seeing each other.

    MIRANDA That was my fault. Things just weren’t where I thought they wouldbe by now and it scared me alittle. But I talked to him, toldhim I didn’t want to call it off,that I wanted to keep trying as acouple.

    ERINAnd what did he say?

    MIRANDA 

    (slight confession)He hasn’t said much yet.

    ERINSomething you have to understandabout Gabe is that he doesn’t workunder anyone’s expectations but hisown. If I remember right you’re anurse at the hospital, right?

    MIRANDA Right.

    ERINThen you’ve seen how methodical heis. That isn’t just when it comesto medicine; he applies that toevery part of his life.

    MIRANDA I’m starting to see that. I thinkit’s admirable.

    ERINIt’s frustrating, that’s what itis. The boy can drive you to the

    brink of insanity with his habitsand ways. He’s not always theeasiest person to deal with, and Ican only imagine its equallydifficult to have feelings for him.

    (a beat)Does Gabe know you were coming bytoday?

    MIRANDA Actually, no. I came by because I wanted to talk to you specifically,and he would probably try todiscourage it, knowing him. He’s sohesitant to introduce me to thefamily. It’s almost like he’sscared of commitment.

    ERINWhat is it you wanted to talk to meabout?

    MIRANDA I was hoping you could give me someadvice on dealing with Gabe.

    ERIN

    Well, for starters, you can’t be wishy-washy. You have to either beall-in or you’re all-out. Those areyour only options with him.

    MIRANDA I didn’t realize he saw the worldso black and white.

    ERINHe always has. Sometimes it putspeople off, because there is no middle ground. He doesn’t have

    friends and acquaintances. Ifyou’re not a friend, then you’renot there.

    MIRANDA I really want things to work withus. What should I do?

    ERINIf that’s what you really want thenstick to it. You can’t say onething and then decide a littlelater that you’ve changed your

     mind.

    MIRANDA I’ll remember that. Sorry if I’vecaused any kind of commotion foryou.

    ERINIts nothing. He’s very... reservedabout his private life, even here.

    (a beat)Now I don’t want to be rude, butthere’s a lot to do around hereright now.

    MIRANDA (rising)

    Of course, of course. Thank you foryour time. It was a real pleasure

    to meet you.

    ERINYes, it was.

    She sees Miranda out the door, a thoughtful look on her face.

    CUT TO:

    I/E. OLIVIA’S CAR - DRIVING - DAY 1.7 7

    We’re riding inside Olivia’s car where the atmosphere isextremely heavy. Neither Olivia or Cain are speaking, and the

    radio is off. Cain casts the occasional dubious look towardsOlivia as she drives, but she seems not to notice.

    CAIN(beat)

    CAINHere, switch baskets with me.

    OLIVIA (stubborn)

    I’m fine.

    CAINThat basket is way too heavy. Justtake this one.

    OLIVIA I said I’ve got it.

    Cain just moves around, reaching out and stopping Olivia’sbasket by grasping the front of it.

    OLIVIA I’m not helpless!

    CAINI’m not saying you are.

    Olivia stares him down for a moment, unwilling to surrenderthis, then she finally-- reluctantly --switches to push theother basket.

    Walter is sitting in the driver’s seat of his car, just sortof staring off into space. REID comes up the driveway, backfrom one of the many jobs he does around there, and seesthis. Concerned, he crosses to the driver’s side window, tapson it to get Walter’s attention. Walter looks at him butdoesn’t make a move to get out of the car, so Reid crossesaround to the passenger side and gets in.

    I/E. WALTER’S CAR - DRIVEWAY - DAY 1.15A 15A

    Once he’s in the car Reid waits patiently for Walter to talk.When he doesn’t after several moments, Reid takes it uponhimself to start.

    REIDWhat’s going on?

    WALTER(a beat)

    I just can’t understand what would make someone give up on everythingso easily.

    REIDI’m not following you.

    WALTERI don’t care how bad the situationgets, or how tough the road. Ifthere was even the slightest chanceof getting better I would leap atit. How can someone be so willingto just lay down and wait to die?

    (realizing)Ah. The doctor didn’t go well,then?

    We can see that it is becoming difficult for Walter to holdit together as he informs Reid; this is something he’s beenholding inside, unable to tell anyone, so it is a relief tohim that he can confide in Reid.

    WALTERThe cancer has spread pretty far.The doctor says its still possibleto beat it, but he refuses to evenconsider the options.

    REIDI don’t know that I blame him,though. Your perspective is fromthe outside. We don’t know what’sgoing on inside his body. I haven’tpersonally experienced it, but Iknow people with fathers, mothers,uncles, grandparents, that havegone through chemo. They say theyshrivelled up to nothing. Allthroughout it the treatment madethem sicker than the cancer had.

    It’s easy for us to say how it’sobvious that he needs to do it,because in the end it’s not us whohas to go through the consequencesof that choice. I’m sure he’sthinking about it differently. He’sscared of what will happen if hegets the chemotherapy.

    WALTERBut it’s the only chance he has--

    Maybe he doesn’t see it that way.I’m sure he’s thinking that there’sno guarantee that the treatments will work, and if not, then what was it for? Think of his age. Whichis worse, the symptom or the cure?

    WALTEROkay, that’s fine. I can respectthat choice. But he says he’s done with all of it, the tests, thedoctor visits, all of it. There area lot of experimental treatments

    out there we can try. But I thinkhe’s just throwing in the towel.

    Finally Derrick’s car arrives and Theresa hurries to it andgets in, and Derrick pulls off.

    I/E. DERRICK’S CAR - MOVING - DAY 1.16A 16A

    Derrick glances at Theresa every now and then, expecting herto say something. When she doesn’t he decides to talk.

    DERRICKHow was work today? Are you feelingany better?

    THERESA Work was same as ever. And I’m justas drained as usual.

    DERRICKMaybe you should take a day or twooff work to get some rest.

    THERESA Don’t be ridiculous. We can’tafford for me to do that. We havebills, remember?

    DERRICKI know you aren’t that big a fan ofpepperoni. How about plain cheese?

    THERESA (smiling)Sounds great.

    Theresa turns to look out the window and as she does we ANGLEON HER FACE IN THE REAR VIEW MIRROR, her smile slowly fadinguntil she’s very somber-looking. From this we:

    Olivia’s car pulls up and we can see that it is overflowing

     with grocery bags; they’re all in the back seat and Cain evenhas some in his lap, and looks none too happy about it.

    He gets out of the car with the bags and closes the car doorhard. Olivia follows him out of the car, annoyed by hisattitude.

    OLIVIA What are you complaining about? So

     what if you had to ride with bagsin your laps for ten minutes?

    She starts unloading the car, moving things towards theporch. Cain grabs several bags and heads off after her.

    Olivia turns, carrying as many of the grocery bags inside asshe can. This leaves Cain standing there feeling like shit.

    Walter sits on the edge of the bed by his dad.

    SAMUELThere are two others, but... well,let’s say that they couldsympathize with you. I haven’theard from them in years. Theydon’t give a damn about me.

    (a beat)I don’t have any delusions of howthe world or my children see me,you know. I’m not stupid. I’vecaused a lot of pain to a lot of

    people, and it’s too late to saythat I regret it. A man has to live with the life he’s led, the good,the bad, the regrets, the memories,all of it. There’s not a damn thing we can do about it.

    They sit there like that, father and son, the father unableto look at his child and the son unable to look away from hisdad. After a few painful beats, Walter reaches out and putshis hand on Samuel’s shoulder. From this we:

    Gabe is sitting at a table on the small patio of the “mom-and-pop”-looking cafe. There’s no one else there, and the streettraffic seems minimal. There are already two menus on thetable and two glasses of water.

    Miranda appears, and Gabe, noticing her, gets up to meet her,but doesn’t seem very pleased, but Miranda is putting on acheerful front.

    MIRANDA 

    This isn’t what I expected when youasked me to meet you for dinner.The place looks really cute. Is thefood good?

    Gabe leads her to their table and sits down, waiting untilshe does, too.

    This puts her off a little, but she doesn’t show it, insteadperusing the menu.

    He hangs the phone up. We can see that Miranda has made anassumption about who that was.

    MIRANDA Who is she?

    GABE(firmly)

    Listen to me.

    Miranda starts to say something but stops, nodding.

    GABE (CONT’D)I feel terrible, because this wholetime I haven’t been fair to you.

    You’re such a sweet girl, and Ireally do love spending time withyou, but not in a romantic sense. Ican’t think of you as more than afriend, and that’s where the issuefor me is. I should have told youthat a long time ago, and I tried,god knows I tried, but I didn’t want to hurt you. Wren and Sal are manning the grill while Zelda moves amongst the guests, making sure they’re each having agood time. Cain and Wren, too, are amongst the guests,talking and laughing. Sitting between Wren and Cain is aTEENAGED GUEST, who looks happy to be included by the olderguys.

    Cain immediately gets up and crosses to her, taking it fromher. Without saying anything Olivia starts down the pathtowards her car.

    CAINHey, hey. Where are you going?

    OLIVIA Home. I’m done for the night.

    She keeps walking, but Cain goes after her.

    CAINListen, please. Wait a sec. Just wait.

    She stops grudgingly and turns around.

    OLIVIA What do you want?

    CAINI thought about what you said

    earlier. You’re right, I was rude.There’s no excuse for it, noapologies for it. I just want tosay I’m really sorry about it. Ihope we can start over again, cleanslate.

    Cain stands there, processing what she’s saying, unsure howto respond to it. As they talk Walter arrives home, comingalong the path towards them. Noticing this, Olivia decides to

    Tae opens the door, Gabe walking in.

    She turns and leaves the living room, going off into thebedroom. This confuses Derrick, who is now visibly concernedand agitated. She returns with something in a ziplock bag.She tosses the bag to Derrick, who catches it, looking downat it at a loss for words.

    ANGLE ON THE BAG and we can see a pregnancy test in there,the one she took in the last episode. Derrick just stares atit, finally looking at Theresa with the question obvious onhis face.

    DERRICKDoes this mean... are you?

    THERESA (not at all thrilled)

    Yeah, I’m pregnant.

    DERRICK(elated)That’s amazing! This is amazing!

    He crosses to Theresa, embracing her happily, but she doesn’tlet him, stepping back from his arms.

    THERESA No, this isn’t amazing. This is the worst thing that could happen rightnow.

    DERRICK

    (stunned by her words)How can you say that?

    THERESA You said it yourself. We’re juststarting to get back on our feet.Having a baby would set us back sofar.

    Derrick slowly sits down on the couch, unable to believe thathe’s hearing this from his wife.

    Theresa sits down next to him, talking to him cajolingly,

    almost like she would a child whom she is trying to convincesomething.

    Theresa stands up to, resolved.

    THERESA I have no intention of having thisbaby.

    She heads off into her bedroom, leaving a completely

    devastated Derrick behind. The words make him sink to thecouch, looking like a bomb has gone off around him.
