“OPeople!“Indeed ahead of you is the blessedmonth of Allah. Amonth of blessing,

mercyandforgiveness.AmonthwhichwithAllahisthebestofmonths.Itsdays,thebestofdays,itsnights,thebestofnights,anditshours,thebestofhours.Itis themonthwhich invitesyou tobe theguestsofAllahand invitesyou tobeone of those near to Him. Each breath you take glorifies him; your sleep isworship,yourdeedsareacceptedandyoursupplicationsareanswered.So,askAllah,yourLord;togiveyouasoundbodyandanenlightenedheart

soyoumaybeable to fastandrecitehisbook, foronlyhe isunhappywhoisdevoid of Allah’s forgiveness during this great month. Remember the hungerandthirstofthedayofQiyamah(Judgement)withyourhungerandthirst;givealmstotheneedyandpoor,honoryourold,showkindnesstotheyoungones,maintain relationswith your blood relations; guard your tongues, close youreyes to that which is not permissible for your sight, close your ears to thatwhich is forbidden to hear, show compassion to the orphans of people socompassionmaybeshowntoyourorphans.RepenttoAllahforyoursinsandraiseyourhandsinduaduringthesetimes,

for they are the best of times and Allah looks towards his creatures withkindness, replying to themduring the hours andgranting their needs if he isasked…“O People! Indeed your souls are dependant on your deeds, free it with

Istighfar (repentance) lighten its loads by long prostrations; and know thatAllahswearsbyhismight:Thatthereisnopunishmentfortheonewhoprays

andprostratesandheshallhavenofearofthefireonthedaywhenmanstandsbeforetheLordoftheworlds.“OPeople!OnewhogivesIftaartoafastingpersonduringthismonthwill

belikeonewhohasfreedsomeoneandhispastsinswillbeforgiven.SomeofthepeoplewhoweretherethenaskedtheProphet(s):“Notallofus

areabletoinvitethosewhoarefasting?”TheProphet(s)replied:“AllahgivesthisrewardeveniftheIftaar(meal)is

adrinkofwater.”“Onewhohasgoodmorals(Akhlaq)duringthismonthwillbeabletopass

the‘Siraat’…onthedaythatfeetwillslip…“OnewhocoversthefaultsofotherswillbenefitinthatAllahwillcurbHis

angeronthedayofJudgement…“As for one who honors an orphan; Allah will honor him on the day of

judgement,“Andfortheonewhospreadshiskindness,AllahwillspreadHismercyover

himonthedayofJudgement.“Asfortheonewhocutsthetiesofrelation;AllahwillcutHismercyfrom

him…“WhosoeverperformsarecommendedprayerinthismonthAllahwillkeep

thefireofHellawayfromhim…“WhoeverperformsanobligatorprayerAllahwillrewardhimwithseventy

prayers[worth]inthismonth.“Andwhosoeverpraysalotduringthismonthwillhavehisloadlightened

onthedayofmeasure.“Hewho recites one verse of the holyQuranwill be given the rewards of

recitingtheholeQur’anduringothermonths.“OPeople!Indeedduringthismonththedoorsofheavenareopen,therefore

askAllahnottoclosethemforyou;Thedoorsofhellareclosed,soaskAllahtokeepthemclosedforyou.DuringthismonthShaytan(Saten)isimprisonedsoaskyourLordnottolethimhavepoweroveryou.”

2ChapterDu'aonSightingtheNewMoonofRamadhan

ThenewmoonofRamadhanisspecialtoMuslims.Itannouncesthestartof

theholymonthandthebeginningof theblessingsandmercyassociatedwithRamadhan.AccordingtotheHolyProphet(s)whoeverseesthenewmoonofRamadhanshouldrecitethefollowingDu'a.1InthenameofAllahtheBeneficenttheMerciful.MyLordandyourLordisAllah,LordoftheworldsOAllahletthenewmoonbringus,peaceandfaithsafetyandsubmissionandahasteningtowardswhatyoulikeandarepleasedwith.OAllahblessusinthismonthofours,andgiveusofitsgood,anditsassistanceKeepusawayfromitsharm,anditsevil,itsdifficulties,anditstrials.

AllahhasdecreedthatMuslimsusethemovementofthemoontodetermine

thepassingofmonthsandyears.WhentheearlyMuslimswereaskedaboutthenewmoon,Allahrevealedaversesaying:

جحلاو سانلل تیقاوم ىه لق ةلهألا نع كنولئسی

Theyaskyouconcerningthenewmoons.Say;theyaretimesappointedfor(thebenefitof)people,and(for)pilgrimage.(2:189)

3ChapterDu'asfortheNightsofRamadhan

ThenightsofRamadhanarea time forworshippingAllah, forpraying to

AllahandseekingHisforgiveness.Allahknowsthathumanbeingsarelikelytosin,andneedofanopportunitytorepentandreformthemselves.Hencethemonth of Ramadhan, a season of Du'a and Istighfar whereby Muslims canrelieve themselves of the burden of sins. TheDu'aswhich follow have beentaught by theMa'sumeen (a) and show us how to seek the Forgiveness andMercyofAllahinthismonth.

Du'ano.1

After praising Allah, the following Du'a describes the excellence of

Ramadhan, and its distinguishing features. Worshippers and supplicatorsreceive special favours when they ask in this month. This Du'a is alsorecommendedafterobligatoryprayers.InthenameofAllahtheBeneficent,theMercifulOHigh,OMighty,OForgiver,OMerciful,YouaretheMightyLord,whohasnonelikeHim,andHeistheAll-Hearing,theAll-Seeing.ThisisamonthwhichYouhavemade;exalted,honored,ennobledandexcelledovertheothermonths.ItisthemonthinwhichYouhavemadefastingobligatoryonme,anditisthemonthofRamadhan,inwhichYousentdowntheQur'an,aguidanceformankind,havingclearsignsofguidanceanddistinction.(2:185)Youhaveplacedinitthenightofpower,andmadeitbetterthanathousandmonths.(97:2)OOnewhofavours,andnonefavoursYou,favourmebysavingmefromthefire,amongsttheonesYoufavour,andmakemeenterHeaven,byYourmercy,OthemostMerciful.

OneoftheetiquettesofDu'aistoaskforothers,torememberthosewhoare

inneed. It isaselflessact,displayinghumanityandconsideration forothers.Allah loves a person who first asks for others, then prays fpr himself. TheSixth Imam (a) says: When a Muslim prays for his brother, (increase in)sustenanceisgiventohim,afflictionsaredrivenaway,andtheangelstellhim“Youwillalsoreceivethesame”.Manypeopleallovertheworldsufferindescribablemiseries.Tyrannyand

oppressionarerampantinmanycountries.Thereislittlewecandotoalleviatethe sufferings.Howeverwe can at least pray sincerely for them, hoping thatAllah will relieve them as He has power over all things.We also pray thatAllahmaygiveus thewilland theability tohelpothers inwhateverwaywecan.InthenameofAllahtheBeneficenttheMercifulOAllahblessMuhammadandthefamilyofMuhammad.OAllah,gladdenthepeopleofthegraves,OAllah,enricheverypoorperson,OAllah,satisfyeveryhungryone,OAllah,clotheeveryunclothedone,OAllah,helpeverydebtorpayhisdebts,OAllah,relieveeverydistressedone,OAllah,returneverytraveller(tohishome),OAllahreleaseeveryprisoner,OAllah,correcteverywrongintheaffairsoftheMuslims,OAllah,cureeverysickone,OAllah,easeourpovertybyYourwealth,OAllah,changeourevilstatetoagoodonethroughYourexcellentstate,OAllah,relieveusofourdebts,andhelpusagainstpoverty,SurelyYouhavepoweroverallthings.

AnIntroductiontoDuaAl-Iftitah

Du' al-Iftitahwas taughtbyour twelfth Imam(a) forShi'as to reciteevery

nightduringthemonthofRamadhan.TheDu'aisexcellentformouldingman'sattitudetowardshisCreatorasitdiscussesmanyaspectsofthewretchednessofthe human being, and theGrace ofAllah. TheDu'a can be divided into twoparts:1)Man'srelationshipwithAllah.2)Divineleaders.The first section of the Du'a describes different qualities of Allah, and

reveals thegraciousnessandloveofAllahfor thehumanbeing.ThissectionoftheDu'acanfurtherbedividedintothefollowingparts:a)PraiseofAllah.AsistheetiquetteofDu'a,Du'aal-Iftitahbeginswiththe

praiseandglorificationofAllah.ThisisnotbecauseAllahneedstobepraisedbefore He answers our Du'as, but to remind the supplicant of the SupremeBeing he is addressing, and consequently put the awe of Allah into heartswhichareoftenheedless.ThebeginningoftheDu'aalsoplacesthesupplicantbetweenhopeandfear,

the ideal attitudewhile praying.Allah ismostmerciful, but is also severe inpunishment.Humansarenottodespair,nortobetooconfidentbutconstantlystriveinHisway.b)EmphasisontheOnenessofAllah.Allahhasnopartnernorson,andhas

complete, undivided power and control over creation.The inhabitants of theskies and the heavens depend on Him. This is to strengthen reliance of thesupplicantonAllah,asthereisnoneelsehecanturnto.c) TheGenerosity ofAllah. The treasures ofAllah do not cease, and are

alwaysliberallybestowedonHiscreatures.Theneedsofthehumanbeingsareenormous, and by placing open the door of Du'a, Allah has given them thekeystoHistreasures.Hisdoorsarealwaysopen,andnosupplicationtoHimisrejectedwithoutsomeanswer.Butmanisoftenungrateful,andalwaysgreedy.Heexpectsthathisdu'aswill

alwaysbeimmediatelygranted.Whensuchgratificationisnotforthcoming,heturnsaway,insteadofremindinghimselfofallthefavoursheenjoys.d)RelationshipofAllahandthehumanbeing.Astrangerelationshipindeed!

AlthoughitisthehumanwhoneedsAllah,andshouldstrivetowardsHim,itisAllahwho invites and encourages him to come,who shows love andmercyandcontinuestofavourhiminmanyways.Asthe4thImamsaysinDu'aAbuHamzaThumali:PraisebetoAllahwhoanswersmewhenIcallHim,althoughIamreluctant

when he calls me, and Praise is for Allah who gives me when I ask Him,although I ammiserly when he asks me. This is worth pondering over forthose who think of Allah as a tyrannical master imposing His rules overhumans.ThissectionoftheDu'aisanexcellentlessonintheIslamicviewpointofthe

qualitiesofAllah.TheGodofIslamisaloving,graciousGodwhotreatsthehuman being better than he deserves. The root of the relationship betweenAllah andman is the love of the Creator for His creatures. It is onman tosearchhisheartforareciprocalresponse.Thesecondsectionof theDu'asendblessingson theHolyProphet(s)and

theM'asumeen,andthendiscussestheroleofthetwelfthImam(a).a) Salawat on theProphet(s).After faith inAllah, the nextmost important

part of religion is faith in His sent ones. Thus after acknowledging thegreatnessandgraciousnessofthecreator,theDu'ateachesustoacknowledgetheDivineleadersasourguidestowardsHim.BlessingsaresenttotheProphet(s) as a sign of love and appreciation for the Prophet (s) and as anacknowledgement that he is a human being and needs mercy and blessingsfrom Allah. It also strengthens remembrance of the Prophet (s) and theinspirationtofollowhispath.b)BlessingsontheMasumeen.AftertheHolyProphet(s),hissuccessorsare

rememberedandprayedfor.ThesearethetrueleadersoftheMuslimUmmahwhowereDivinelyappointedbyAllah.Beliefinthem,andloveforthem,isanimportantpartoftheShi'afaith.c)Roleof theTwelfth Imam(a). IneveryeraAllahhasHis representative

whoguidesHiscreatures towardsestablishing truthand justiceonearth.TheTwelfthImamistheleaderofourtime,whowillcomeandAllah'sreligiononearth. The last part of Du'a al-Iftitah talks about his coming, preparingbelieversfortheanticipatedestablishmentoftheruleofAllahonearth.Praying for help and victory for the twelfth Imam reminds us thatwe are

waitingforhim,andneedtoprepareforhiscoming.Webecomeawareofourresponsibilitiesinhisghaybat,andtheimportanceoftrainingourselvesashishelpers. We pray for the ultimate dream of a Muslim, a state in which thereligionofAllahisparamount,anddisbeliefandhypocrisyaredegraded.Du'aal-Iftitahremindsusthatbothfaithandactionarenecessarytobeatrue

believer. Faith in Allah entails acting on His message brought by Hismessenger,andestablishingHisreligiononearth.WhilethatcanonlybedonethroughtheImam,weshouldworkandprayforhisarrival.Humanbeingscanonlyenjoytruejusticeandpeace,andafulfilmentofalltheirneeds,undertheleadershipofaDivineleader.Du'aal-Iftitahisnotonlyasupplicationforourneeds,butateachingofthe

rootsoffaith,andaplanningforawayoflife.Itremainsonustoplotthechartofourlifeaswerecitethisbeautifuldu'aduringthenightsofRamadhan.

SurelyYouaretheBountiful,theGenerous.AllPraiseisforAllahTheOwneroftheKingdomwhomakestheshipssail,controlsthewind,causesthedawntobreak,istheauthorityontheDayofJudgement,theLordoftheworlds.AllPraiseisforAllahforHispatiencedespiteHisknowledge.AllPraiseisforAllahforHisforgivenessdespiteHispower.AllPraiseisforAllahforthelengthyrespiteHegivesdespiteHisanger,thoughHehasthepowertodoasHewills.AllPraiseisforAllahthecreatorofallcreation,theproviderofplentifulsustenance,thecleaverofthedawn,possessorofGloryandHonor,andExcellenceandBlessings,

5ChapterLaylatulQadr,theNightofPower

ThemonthofRamadhanhasbeensingledoutforspecialworship(Ìbadat)

andexclusivefavours.Itisamonthunlikeothermonths.Onereasonforthis,as defined by the Qur'an, is because the Holy Qur'an was revealed in thismonth.SaysAllahinSuraalBaqarah:ThemonthofRamadhan, that inwhichtheQur'anwassentdown;aguidanceformankind,andclearsignsofguidanceanddistinction(2:185).Infact,accordingtoahadithof the6thImam(a), theotherholybookswerealsorevealedinthismonth.AmongthenightsofRamadhanisonespecialnight,which isbetter thana

thousandmonths (HQ,97:3).Gooddeedsperformedon that singlenightareequal to those performed over a thousandmonths. It is the Night of Power(LaylatulQadr),whentheQur'anwasrevealed.Somecommentatorsbelieveitwas the night when the Qur'an was brought down from Baytul Màmur(Heavenlyabode),forJibraeltorevealinpartstotheProphet(s).Otherssayitwas the nightwhen the Prophet received the entireQur'an, butwas asked totransmititasandwhentheoccasiondemanded.Laylatul Qadr is a celebration to commemorate the arrival of the final

guidance for humans. It is a tribute to the commencement of the messagerevealedtomankindbytheirCreator,amessagewhichshowsthemthewaytoachievehappinessinboththeworlds.Justasthearrivalofachildiscelebrated,on its birth and then every year, as a bringer of joy and fulfilment for thefamily, Laylatul Qadr is celebrated as a bringer of light and guidance formankind.Unlike the birthdaywhich is celebratedwith a feast for the senses,LaylatulQadrincludesafeastforthespirit,afeastofworshipandprayers.SomeAhadithindicatethatthefateofeverybelieverforthecomingyearis

decreed on this night. That is why the Duàs for this night ask for specialfavoursinthedecreefortheyear.Believersareencouragedtostayawakethe

entirenight,andprayforblessingsandforgiveness.Itistheholiestnightoftheyear,anditwouldbeunwisetobeheedlessofthetremendousbenefitsofthisnight.

CommonA`maalfortheThreeNightsofQadr

ItisreportedinHadiththatwhoeverkeepsawakeonthenightsofQadrshall

have his/her sins forgiven, even if they equal the number of the stars in theheaven.Itisalsorecommendedtorecitehundredrakàat(i.e.50namazof2rakàat

each) on these nights. The practice of performing Qadha prayers on thesenightshasnoorigininthebooksofHadith.However,itisemphasizedtofulfilthe Qadha prayers as soon as it is possible, and some believers use thisopportunitytoperformQadhaprayersofsixdays(6x17=102rakàat).OpentheQur'anandsay:

Thispartof theziyaratwas readbyour fourth Imam(a)while restinghis

cheekonthegraveofImam‘Ali(a)OAllah,theheartsofthosewhohumblethemselvesbeforeYou,arefulloflove.thepathsofthosewhodesireYouarefixed.ThesignsforthosewhoseekYouareclear.TheheartsofthosewhoknowYou,areemptyofotherthanYou.ThesoundsofthosewhocallYourisetoYou,andthegatesofanswersareopenforthem.Theprayeroftheonewhowhisperstoyouisanswered.TherepentanceoftheonewhoturnstoYouisaccepted.ThetearsoftheonewhoweepsinYourfeararedealtwithmercifully.HelpisavailableforonewhocryforhelpfromYou,andassistanceisgivengenerouslytotheonewhoseeksit.YourpromisesforYourservantsarefulfilled.Theerrorsoftheonewhoseekstoreducethem,arereduced.Theactionsofthedoers(ofgooddeeds),arepreservedwithYou,andtheprovisionforYourcreaturescomesdown.

Thepromisesofincrease(inprovision)reachthem,Thesinsofthosewhoseekforgivenessareforgiven.TheneedsofYourcreaturesarefulfilled.Therewardsofthebeseechersareavailableinplenty,withYou.

One of the important topics discussed in Sura ar -Rum is the proof of the

Creatorpresentinthemanywondersofcreationaroundus.Inayats2025,andthenayats4654oftheSura,AllahtalksaboutHissignspresentinthecreationoftheworldandinhumanbeings,inthewisdombehindthesystemrunningintheUniverse,andthepowerandmercyofAllahsoevidentintheworkingoftheworld.Thereisaninvitationtoponderoverthesesigns,togainafirmandun-doubtfulfaithintheCreator.Many people, however, reject these clear signs, and prefer to continue in

disbelief.Believersaresometimesaffectedbysuchskeptics,andmaywaverintheirfaith.Suraar-RumendsbydescribingthefateofsuchskepticsonthedayofJudgement,andwarnsbelieversnottobeaffectedbythemintheworld.Thissuraderives itsnamefromtheprophecy in thebeginningof thesura

that theRomans (whowereChristians)would defeat thePersians (whowereidol-worshippers)inthenearfuture.ThiswasreassuringfortheMuslimswhohad been taunted that the idol-worshippers were gaining victory over thosewhobelievedinOneGod.Recitationofsuraar-RumishighlyrecommendedonLaylatulQadr.InthenameofAllah,theBeneficent,theMerciful.1.AlifLamMeem.2.TheRomanshavebeendefeated.3.Inanearbyland,butafterbeingdefeated,theyshallsoonbevictorious.4.Withinafewyears;Allah'sisthecommandbeforeandafter,andonthat

daythebelieversshallrejoice.5.WiththehelpofAllah.HehelpswhomHepleases,andHeistheMighty,

theMerciful.6.(Thisis)thepromiseofAllah!AllahdoesnotfailHispromise,butmost

peopledonotknow.7.Theyknow(only)theexternalappearanceofthelifeofthisworld,while

theyareheedlessoftheHereafter.8. Why do they not reflect on themselves, that Allah did not create the

heavens and the earth, andwhat is between them, exceptwith the Truth, and(for) an appointed term?And surely, most people disbelieve in themeetingwiththeirLord.9.Havetheynottravelledontheearth,andseentheendofthosewhowere

before them?Theywere stronger than them inmight; theydugup the earth,andbuiltonit,morethanwhatthesepeoplehavebuilt;andtherecametothemtheirMessengerswithclear signsandAllahwouldnever treat themunjustly,buttheywereunjusttothemselves.10.Thenevilwastheendofthosewhodidevil,fortheydeniedthesignsand

mockedthem.11.Allahoriginates creation, then reproduces it, then toHimyou shall be

returned.12.AndonthedaywhentheHourshallcome,theguiltyshallbeindespair.13.Theyshallnothaveanyintercessorsamongtheirassociates(withGod),

andtheyshalldenytheirassociates.14.Andonthedaywhenthehourshallcome,theyshallbeseparated(into

groups).15.Thenas to thosewhobelievedanddidgooddeeds, theyshallbemade

happyinthegarden.16.Andastothosewhodisbelieved,anddeniedOursignsandthemeeting

ofthehereafter,theyshallbebroughttothepunishment.17.SoGlorybetoGod,whenyouentertheevening,andwhenyouenterthe

morning.18.ForHimisallPraiseintheheavensandtheearth,atnightandwhenyou

entermidday.19.Hebringsforththelivingfromthedead,andbringsforththedeadfrom

the living;andHegives life to theearthafter itsdeath,and thusshallyoubebroughtforth.20. From His signs is that He created you from dust, then lo! you are

mortals,scatterd(onearth).21. And from His signs is that He created for you mates from among

yourselves, that you may find rest in them; and He placed love and mercybetweenyou;surelyinthisaresignsforapeoplewhoreflect.

22.AndfromHissignsisthecreationoftheheavensandtheearth,andthevarietyofyourlanguagesandcolors;surelyinthisaresignsforthelearned.23.AndfromHissignsisyoursleepingbynightandday,andyourseeking

ofHisgrace;surelyinthisaresignsforapeoplewhowouldhear.24.AndfromHissignsisthatHeshowsyouthelightning,causingfearand

hope;andHesendsdownwaterfromthesky,andgiveslifewithittotheearth;surelyinthistherearesignsforapeoplewhounderstand.25.And fromHis signs is that the heaven and the earth stand firmbyHis

command.ThenwhenHecallsyouwitha(single)callfromoutoftheearth,lo!youshallcomeforth.26. To Him belongs whosoever is in the heavens and the earth; all are

obedienttoHim.27.Heitiswhooriginatescreation,andthenreproducesit,andthatiseasyforHim;Hisaretheexaltedattributesintheheavensandtheearth,andHeistheMighty,theWise.28.Hesetsforthforyouanexamplefromyourselves;doyouhave,among

thosewhomyourrighthandspossess,partnersinwhatWehaveprovidedforyou,sothatyouarealikeinit,youfearthemasyoufeareachother?ThusdoWemakeOursignsclearforapeoplewhounderstand.29. Nay! those who are unjust follow their vain desires without any

knowledge,sowhoshallguidethosewhomAllahhasallowedtostray?Theyshallnothaveanyhelpers.30.Thensetyourfaceuprightforreligion,devotedtothetruth;(following)

thenaturemadebyAllahinwhichHehasmademankind;thereisnoalteringinAllah'screation,thatistherightreligion,butmostpeopledonotknow.31. Turn(ing) towardsHim, and fearHim, establish prayer and do not be

fromthepolytheists.32.(Donotbe)fromthosewhohavesplit theirreligion,andhavebecome

sects;everypartyrejoicesinwhattheyhave.33.Andwhenharmafflictsmen,theycallupontheirLord,turningtoHim;

thenwhenHecausesthemtotastemercyfromHim,lo!someofthemassociatepartnerswiththeirlord.34. That theymay be ungrateful forwhatWe have given them; but enjoy

yourselves(forawhile);soonyoushallknow.35.HaveWesentdownanauthority,sothatitspeaksofwhattheyassociate

withHim?36. When We make people taste of mercy, they rejoice in it, but if evil

befallsthemforwhattheirhandshaveearned,lo!theyareindespair.37.DotheynotseethatAllahincreasesHisprovisionforwhoeverHewills,

andstraitens(forwhoeverHewills)?Surelyinthistherearesignsforapeoplewhobelieve.38.Thengivetothenearofkinhisdue,andtheneedy,andthewayfarer;that

is best for thosewhowant thepleasureofAllah, and they are the successfulones.39.Whateveryougiveoutasinterestsothatitmayincreaseinthewealthof

thepeople, itshallnot increasewithAllah;andwhateveryougive incharity,wantingthepleasureofAllah,theyshallreceiveamanifoldincrease.40.AllahisHewhocreatedyou,thenprovidedforyou,thenwillcauseyou

todie,thenbringyoutolife.Isthereanyofyourassociategodswhodoesanyofthosethings?GlorybetoHIm,exaltedisHeabovewhattheyassociate.41. Corruption has appeared on the land and sea on account of what the

handsofmenhavedone,so thatHemaymakethemtasteapartofwhat theyhavedone,perhapstheymayreturn(towardsHim).42. Say:Travel on the earth, and see howwas the end of thosewhowere

before;mostofthemwerepolytheists.43. Set your face upright for the right religion before there comes from

Allahthedaywhichcannotbeaverted;onthatdaytheyshallbeseparated.44.Whoeverdisbelieves, thenonhimwillbe(thechargeof)hisdisbelief;

andwhoeverdoesgooddeeds,theyarepreparingforthemselves.45.SothatHemayrewardthosewhobelieveanddogooddeeds,outofHis

grace,surelyHedoesnotlovethedisbelievers.46.AndfromHissignsisthatHesendsforththewindsbearinggoodnews,

that He may make you taste of His mercy; and that ships may sail by Hiscommand.andyoushouldseekofHisgrace,andsothatyoumaybegrateful.47.IndeedWesentbeforeyou,Messengerstotheirpeople,andtheycameto

themwithclearproofsThenWepunishedthosewhowereguilty,andhelpingthebelieversisadutyonUs.48.Allah it is, who sends forth thewinds, so they raise a cloud, thenHe

spreadsitforthintheskyasHepleases,andcausesittobreakupsothatyousee the raincoming forth from inside it; thenwhenHecauses it to falluponwhomHepleasesofHisservants,lo!theyrejoice49. Though they were, before it was sent down upon them, in complete

despair.50.Lookthenat thetracesofthemercyofAllah;howHegiveslifetothe

earthafter itsdeath,surely this (God) is thegiverof life to thedead,andHehaspoweroverallthings.51.And ifWesendawind,and they see it tobeyellow, they remainafter

that,disbelieving.

52.Surelyyoucannotmakethedeadtohear,andyoucannotmakethedeaftohearthecall,whentheyturnbackandwithdraw.53.Norcanyou lead theblindoutof theirerror.Youcannotmakeany to

hearexcepthewhobelievesinOursigns,andsotheysubmit.54. Allah it is who created you of weakness, then He gave strength after

weakness, then gave weakness after strength, and grey hair; He createswhateverhewill,andHeistheallknowing,thePowerful.55.On the daywhen the hour shall come, the guilty shall swear that they

havenotstayedformorethananhour;suchwastheirlying.56.Thosewhoweregivenknowledgeandfaithwillsay:Indeedyoustayed

accordingtotheBookofAllah,tilltheDayofResurrection;sothisistheDayofResurrection,butyoudidnotknow.57. But on that day, the excuse of thosewhowere unjust, shall not profit

them,norwilltheybeallowedtomakeamends.58.Indedwehavesetforthforpeopleeverykindofexample,inthisQur'an;

butifyoubringthemasign,thosewhodisbelievewillsay:Youarenothingbutfalseclaimants.59.ThusdoesAllahsetasealontheheartsofthosewhodonotknow.60.Sobepatient;SurelythepromiseofAllahisthetruth.Letnotthosewho

havenocertaintymakeyouunsteady.

ThesurahasbeennamedAnkabutbecauseofayatno.41whichtalksofthe

fragilityofthefalsegods,comparingthemtothewebofaspider.Commentators of the Holy Qur'an state that this sura talks about the

followingmainsubjects;1.Thetrialofabelieverandthedistinguishingfactorsofhypocrites.In difficult times the real believers can be separated from thosewho only

toinspiretruebelieverstofacetroublesandobstaclesinthewayofAllah.3.OnenessofAllahandthesignsofAllahinHiscreation.Thesuraalsobrieflycoversothertopics.Overall the sura ismeant to strengthenbelievers in their dedication to the

rightpath.Whoever recites suras Ankabut and Rum on the 23rd night of Ramadhan

willcertainlybeamong thepeopleofParadisewithoutanyexception…andsurelythesetwosurashaveahighpositionwithAllah.ImamJa'farasSadiq(a)RecitationofSuraalAnkabutwithunderstandingbringsaboutanincreasein

faithandsincerityinactions.Thesetwoeffectsofthesurahaveanimpactonabeliever'slifeandhelpmakehim/hersteadfastonthepathofAllah.InthenameofAllahtheBeneficenttheMerciful1.AlifLamMeem.2.Dopeoplethinkthattheywillbeleftaloneonsaying,webelieve,andthey

willnotbetried?3.CertainlyWehavetriedthosebeforethem,andsurelyAllahknowsthose

whoaretrue,andHeknowstheliars.

4.Ordothosewhodoevilthinktheywillescapeus?Eviliswhattheyjudge!5.WhoeverhopesforthemeetingwithAllah,thensurelythetermappointed

withAllahwillcome,andHeistheall-Hearing,all-Knowing.6.Whoeverstrives,strivesonlyforhimself.CertainlyAllahisselfsufficient,

above(theneedsof)theworlds.7.Thosewhobelieveanddogood,Wewillcertainlydoawaywiththeirevil

deeds,andWewillrewardthemthebestofwhattheydid.8.AndWehaveenjoinedonmangoodnesstohisparents.Iftheystrive(to

force)youtoassociate(others)withMe,ofwhichyouhavenoknowledge,donotobeythem.ToMeisyourreturn,thenIwillinformyouofwhatyoudid.9.And thosewhobelieveanddogooddeeds,Wewillcause them toenter

amongthegood.10.Andamongmenarethosewhosay;webelieveinAllah.Butwhenthey

are persecuted in the way of Allah they think the persecution of men to bepunishment of Allah. But if there came help from your Lord, they wouldcertainly say, surelywe arewith you.What! Is notAllah the best knower ofwhatisintheheartsofmankind?11. Most certainly Allah knows those who believe and most certainly He

knowsthehypocrites.12.Thosewhodisbelievesaytothosewhobelieve;followourpathandwe

willbearyourwrongs.Nevershalltheybethebearersofanyoftheirwrongs;surelytheyaretheliars.13. They shall carry their own burdens, and other burdens with their

burdens,andtheyshallbequestionedontheDayofJudgementastowhattheyforged.14.WesentNuhtohispeople,andheremainedamongthemathousandbut

fifityyears.Thenthefloodseizedthemwhiletheywereunjust.15.Wedeliveredhimandtheinmatesoftheark,andWemadeit(theark)a

signforthepeopleoftheworlds.16.And(remember)Ibrahimwhenhesaidtohispeople:worshipAllahand

fearHim,thatisbetterforyouifonlyyouknew.17.YouonlyworshipidolsbesidesAllah,andyoucreatealie;surelythose

whomyouworshipbesidesAllahdonotcontrolsustenanceforyou.Thereforeseek thesustenance fromAllah,andworshipHimandbegrateful toHim; toHimyoushallreturn.18.Ifyoudeny(thetruth), thensurelynationsbeforeyouhavedenied(the

truth),andnothingisincumbentontheMessengerexceptacleardelivering(ofthemessage).19.What!dotheynotseehowAllahoriginatescreation,thenbringsitback

again?IndeedthatiseasyforAllah.20.Say:TravelontheearthandseehowHehasoriginatedthecreation,then

Allahcausesanotherdevelopment;surelyAllahhaspoweroverallthings.21.HepunisheswhomHepleasesandhasmercyonwhomHepleases,and

toHimyoushallbeturnedback.22.Andyoushallnotescapeontheearthnorintheheaven.Youhaveneither

aprotectornorahelperbesideAllah.23.Thosewhodisbelieve in thesignsofAllah,and themeetingwithHim;

thosearetheoneswhohavedespairedofMymercy,andthosearetheonesforwhomthereisapainfulpunishment.24.Buthispeopledidnotreplyhimexcepttosay;”slayhim”or“burnhim.”

ThenAllah delivered him from the fire. In this are signs for a people whobelieve.25.He(Ibrahim)said:YouhavetakenforyourselvesidolsbesidesAllah,in

friendship between yourselves, in the life of thisworld.Then on theDay ofJudgement,someofyouwilldenytheothers,andsomeofyouwillcursetheothers.Yourabodewillbethefireandyoushallnothaveanyhelpers.26.AndLut believed in him.He said, I flee tomyLord, surelyHe is the

Mighty,theWise.27.WegrantedhimIshaqandY'aqub,andWeplacedProphethoodand the

Bookinhisprogeny.Wegavehimhisrewardintheworld,andindeedintheHereafterhewillbeamongtherighteous.28. And (remember) Lut when he said to his people: you commit an

indecencywhichnoneofthepeopleoftheworldshasdone.29.What!doyouapproachthemales,androbonthehighway,andcommit

evil deeds in your assemblies?But his people did not answer except to say:BringusthepunishmentofAllahifyouaretruthful.30.Hesaid:MyLord,helpmeagainstthecorruptpeople.31.Whenourmessengers came to Ibrahimwith thegoodnews, they said:

Wearegoingtodestroythepeopleofthistown,surelyitspeopleareunjust.32.He(Ibrahim)said:AmongstthemisLut.Theysaid:Weknowbetterwho

isamongst them.Wewilldeliverhimandhis followers,excepthiswife; sheshallbeofthosewhoremainbehind.33.When ourmessengers came to Lut, hewas grieved for them and felt

powerless toprotect them.Theysaid:Donotfear,orgrieve.Wewilldeliveryou and your followers except yourwife, she shall be of thosewho remainbehind.34.Wearebringingdownuponthepeopleofthistownapunishmentfrom

heavenfortheirtransgression.

35.AndcertainlyWehaveleftaclearsignofitforapeoplewhounderstand.36. To Madyan (We sent) their brother Shuàib. He said: O my people,

worshipAllahandhopeforthelastdayanddonotactcorruptlyontheearth,makingmischief.37.Buttheydeniedhim,soasevereearthquakeseizedthemandtheybecame

motionlessintheirabodes.38.And(Wedestroyedthepeoplesof)ÀdandThamud,andthisisclearto

youfromtheirabodes.Shaytanmadetheirdeedsfair -seemingtothem,sohekeptthembackfromthepathalthoughtheyhadinsight.39.And(Wedestroyed)Qarun,andFiràwnandHaman.IndeedMusacame

tothemwithclearsignsbuttheywerearrogantonearth,althoughtheydidnotovertake(us).40.SoeachWeseizedforhissin;amongthemwasheonwhomwesenta

violentstorm,andamongthemwashewhomtheblastseized,andamongthemwashewhomwecausedtobeswallowedbytheearth,andamongthemwashewhomWedrowned.Allahdoesnotdoinjusticetothembuttheyareunjusttothemselves.41. The example of thosewho take guardians other thanAllah is like the

example of a spider; it takes a house, but surely the frailest of houses is thehouseofaspider;ifonlytheyknew.42.Allahknowswhatever thing theycalluponbesidesHim,andHe is the

Mighty,theWise.43. These are the examples We have set forth for mankind, but none

understandthemexceptthosewhoknow.44.Allahcreatedtheheavensandtheearthwithtruth,surelyinthisthereisa

signforthebelievers.45.RecitewhathasbeenrevealedtoyouoftheBook,andestablishprayer;

surelyprayerkeepsyouawayfromindecencyandevil.RemembranceofAllahisthegreatest,andAllahknowswhatyoudo.46. Do not dispute with the people of the book except with what is best,

except those of them who act unjustly, and say: We believe in what wasrevealedtous,andwhatwasrevealedtoyou;ourGodandyourGodisone,andtoHimwesubmit.47.ThusWehaverevealedtoyouthebook.Thosewhomwehavegiventhe

book believe in it, and of these (Jews and Christians) there are those whobelieveinit;andnonedenyOursignsexceptthedisbelievers.48.Youdidnot reciteanybookbefore it,nordidyou transcribeonewith

yourrighthand,forthenthosewhofollowuntruthwouldhavedoubted.49. Nay! It is a clear sign in the hearts of those who have been given

knowledge;andnonedisputeOursignsexcepttheunjust.50.Theysay:WhyaresignsnotsentdownuponhimfromhisLord?Say:

ThesignsareonlywithAllah,Iamonlyaplainwarner.51.IsitnotenoughforthemthatWehavesentdowntoyoutheBookwhich

isrecitedtothem?Surelyinthisthereisamercyandareminderforapeoplewhobelieve.52.Say:SufficientisAllahasawitnessbetweenmeandyou,Heknowswhat

isintheheavensandtheearth.ThosewhobelieveinfalsehoodanddisbelieveinAllah,thosearethelosers.53. They ask you to hasten the punishment, and had not the term been

appointed the punishment would certainly have come to them; and indeed itwillcometothemsuddenly,whiletheyarenotaware.54. They ask you to hasten the punishment; surely Hell encompasses the

disbelievers.55.Onthedaywhenthepunishmentwillcoverthemfromabove,andfrom

belowtheirfeet,andHeshallsay:Taste(theresultsof)whatyoudid.56. OMy servants who believe,My earth is wide, therefore worshipMe

alone.57.Everysoulshalltasteofdeath,thentoUsyoushallbereturned.58. Those who believe and do good deeds,We shall lodge them in lofty

chambers in the gardens beneath which rivers flow, and they shall abidetherein.Howexcellentistherewardofthosewhoperform(good)deeds.59.Thosewhoarepatient,andrelyontheirLord.60. And how many a living creature does not carry its own sustenance ;

Allahsustainsitandyourselves;andHeistheAll-Hearing,all-Knowing.61.Ifyouaskthemwhocreatedtheheavensandtheearth,andmadethesun

andmoon subservient, theywill surely sayAllah.Why are they then turnedaway?62.AllahmakesabundantthesustenanceofwhoeverHepleasesandstraitens

itforhim(whoHepleases).SurelyAllahisAwareofallthings.63.Ifyouaskthemwhosendswaterfromthesky,thengiveslifewithitto

theearthafteritsdeath,theywillsurelysayAllah.Say:AllpraiseisforAllah.Nay!mostofthemdonotunderstand.64.Thelifeofthisworldisnothingbutasportandplay.Surelytheabodeof

theHereafter,thatmostcertainlyisthelife,ifonlytheyknew.65.When they rideon the ships theycalluponAllah,making the religion

sincerelyHis.ButwhenHebringsthemsafelytoland,lo!theyassociateotherswithHim.66. Thus they become ungrateful for whatWe have given them. Let them

enjoy;soontheyshallknow.67. Do they not see that We have made a sacred territory secure, while

people are carriedoffby force fromaround them?Will they still believe infalsehoodanddisbelieveinthefavourofAllah?68.Whoismoreunjust thanonewhoforgesa lieagainstAllah,ordenies

thetruthwhenitcomestohim?IsnotHelltheabodeofthedisbelievers?69.ThosewhostrivehardforUs,Wewillmostcertainlyguidethemtoour

ways;andAllahisalwayswiththedoersofgood.

12ChapterSuratad-DukhanTheSmoke,Chapter44

Thesuraderivesitsnamefromayatno.10whichwarnsofaclearlyvisible

smokedescendingontheunbelievers.Somecommentatorsbelieveitreferstothe smoke which will envelop the world before the day of Judgement, andwhichwillbeespeciallypainfulfortheunbelievers.Thereisgreatrewardforrecitingthissurainobligatoryandrecommended

prayers.At thebeginningof thissura,an indirect reference ismade to thenightof

Qadr.ThiswasthefirsttimeMuslimsweretoldaboutLaylatulQadr.TheonlyothermentionofLaylatulQadr in theQur'anis inSuraal-Qadr,whichhasadirect reference to the holy night. Thus both surahs are recommended forrecitationonthenightofQadr.The first six ayaat discuss the holy night, and its blessings.TheSura also

endswithamentionoftheQur'anasareminderforthepeople.InthenameofAllah,theBeneficent,theMerciful.1.HaMeem.2.BytheclearBook.3.SurelyWesentitdownonablessednight,surelyWehave(always)been

warning.4.Thereineverywiseaffairismadedistinct.5.AnorderfromUs,indeedWearethesenders.6.AmercyfromYourLord;surelyHeistheall-Hearing,theall-Knowing.7.Lordoftheheavensandtheearth,andwhatisbetweenthem,ifyouhave

faith.8.ThereisnogodbutHe;Hegiveslifeandcausesdeath;yourLordandthe

Lordofyourfathersofbefore.9.Nay,theyareplayingindoubt.

10. Therefore be on thewatch for the daywhen the heaven shall bring asmokeclearlyvisible.11.Coveringthepeople,thisisapainfulpunishment.12.(Theywillsay)OurLord,removefromusthepunishment;surelyweare

believers.13.Howshalltheybereminded,whenaMessengermakingclear(thetruth)

alreadycametothem?14.Buttheyturnedtheirbacksonhim,andsaid:heistaught(byothers),a

madman.15. SurelyWe will remove the punishment a little, but certainly you will

return(toevil).16.ThedayWeshallseizethemwithagreatseizure,surelyWewillretribute

them.17.AndWetriedbeforethemthepeopleofFiraun,andtherecametothema

nobleProphet.18. Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah; indeed I am a trusted

Messengertoyou.19. And exalt not yourselves over Allah; I come to you with a clear

authority.20.And I take refugewithmyLord and yourLord that you stoneme (to

death).21.Ifyoudonotbelieveme,thenleavemealone.22.ThenhecalleduponhisLord:Theseareaguiltypeople.23. (He was commanded saying) Go forth with My servants by night,

certainlyyouwillbefollowed.24.Leavetheseacalm;theyareahostthatshallbedrowned.25.Howmanyhavetheyleft,ofgardensandfountains!26.Andcornfields,andnobleplaces!27.Andblessingsinwhichtheytookdelight!28.Thus(wasit),andWegavethemasheritagetoanotherpeople.29. So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they

respited.30.WedeliveredthechildrenofIsraelfromadegradingaffliction.31.FromFiraun,hewashaughty,andfromthosewhoareextravagant.32.CertainlyWechosethem,havingknowledge,overthenations.33.Wegavethemofthesigns,whereinwasacleartrial.34.Surelythese(people)say:35.Thereisnothingexceptourfirstdeath,andweshallnotberaisedagain.36.Bring(back)ourfathers,ifyouaretruthful.

37. Are they better, or the people of Tubba, and those before them? Wedestroyedthem,forsurelytheywereguilty.38.Wecreatednot theheavensand theearth,andwhat isbetweenthem, in

sport.39.Wecreatedthemnotbutwiththetruth,butmostofthemdonotknow.40.Surelythedayofseparation,isanappointedtermforallofthem.41.Thedaywhenafriendshallnotbeofusetoafriend,norshalltheybe

helped.42.ExceptthoseonwhomAllahshallhavemercy;IndeedHeistheMighty,

theMerciful.43.Certainly,thetreeofZaqqum.44.Shallbethefoodofthesinners.45.Likemoltenbrass,shallboilinthebellies.46.Liketheboilingofhotwater.47.(Itwillbesaid)takehim,thendraghimdownintothemiddleofHell.48.Thenpouronhisheadthetormentoftheboilingwater.49. (It will besaid) Taste; surely you were (thought yourself to be) the

mighty,thehonorable.50.Thisiswhatyoudisputedabout.51.Indeedthepiousoneswillbeinasafeplace.52.Ingardensandsprings.53.Theyshallwearsilkandbrocade,(sitting)facetoface.54.Soshallitbe;andWewillunitethemwithwideeyedhouris.55.Theyshallcallthereinforeverykindoffruit,insecurity.56.Theyshallnottastedeaththereinexceptthefirstdeath,andHewillsave

themfromthepunishmentofHell.57.AgracefromyourLord;thatisamightyachievement.58.We havemade it (the Qur'an) easy on your tongue, that theymay be

reminded.59.Sowait,they(too)arewaiting.

This is a Du'a for the protection of the 12th Imam al-Mahdi (as). It is

14ChapterDuaat-Tawbah(Repentance)

ThisDu'a is taughtby the fourth Imam (a) and isDu'a#31 inSaheefa as-

sajjadiyyah. The du'a is a touching plea by one who acknowledges theenormity of the sins he has committed.His hope lies only in themercy andforgivenessofAllah.UsingQur'anicconceptsofrepentance,anditsacceptance,Imamteachesus

how to be sincere in seeking it. The Du'a reiterates the conditions ofrepentance, the physical signs present on a true repenter, and the legitimatehopesgiventoonewhotrulyseeksforgiveness.Itisabeautifullyelegantwayofexpressingtheremorseandhopeofafaithfulbelieverwhohassinned.“There is nothingmore beloved toAllah than a believerwho is repentant,

maleorfemale.”[HolyProphet(s)](whendescribingthosewhorepent)..“theyplantedthetreesoftheirsinsin

frontoftheireyesandhearts,andwateredthemwiththewaterofregret.Theygainedthefruitsofpeace,followedbythepleasureofAllah,andrespect(inHiseyes).”[Imam‘Ali(a)]InthenameofAllah,theBeneficent,theMerciful.OAllah,blessMuhammadandthefamilyofMuhammad.OAllah,Oonewhomthedescriptionofthedescribersfailstodescribe.OonewhomthehopeofthosewhohopedoesnotsurpassOonewithwhomtherewardofthedoersofgoodisnotlost.Oonewhoistheultimateobjectofthefearoftheworshippers.

Oonewhoistheultimateaimoftheaweofthepious.Thisisthepositionofone,whomthesinshavealternatedbetweenhands,whoisledbythereinsofoffenses,andoverwhomShaytanhasgainedmastery.SohehasfallenshortofwhatYoucommandedhim,throughneglect,andhasperformedwhatYouforbadehim,throughdelusion,likeonewhoisignorantofYourpoweroverhim,orliketheonewhodeniesthegraceofYourfavouronhim.Until,whentheeyeofguidanceopenedforhim,andthecloudsofblindnessdispersedfromhim,herealizedtheinjusticehehaddonetohimself,

andponderedoverthatinwhichhehadopposedhisLord.Thenhesawhisgreatdisobedienceasenormousandhisgreatoppositionasserious.SoheturnedtowardsYou,hopinginYou,ashamedbeforeYou,andhedirectedhiswishestoYou,relyingonYou.Heturnedtoyouinhislonging,withcertainty,andaimedforYouinfear,withsincerity,hislongingfreedfromanythinglongedfor,exceptYouandhisfearremovedfromanythingfeared,exceptYou.SohestoodinYourpresence,pleading,loweredhiseyestotheground,humbly,benthisheadbeforeYourmight,inlowlinessheconfessedtoYousubmissivelyofhissecrets

whichYouknowbetterthanhe,andhumblyenumeratedhissinswhichYouhavecountedbetterthanhim.HecriedforYourhelpforthedreadful(state)intowhichhehasfalleninYourknowledge,andtheugly(sins)whichhavedisgracedhiminYourjudgement,thesinswhosepleasureshaveturnedaway,anddeparted,whosepleasureshavedepartedandpassedawayand whose evil consequences have stayed, but whose consequences have

stayedandclung.andstuckfast.Hewillnotdeny,OmyGod,YourjusticeifYoupunishhim,norwillheconsiderittoogreatforYourpardonifYoupardonhimandhavemercyonhim,forsurelyYouarethegenerousLord,Hewhoisnotovercomebytheforgivingofgreatsins.

AndYouhavesaid,OmyGod,inYourfirmBook,thatYouacceptrepentancefromyourservants,thatYoupardonsins,andthatYoulovetherepenters.

Thenacceptmyrepentance,asYouhavepromised,andpardonmyevildeedsasYouhaveguaranteed.andandgrantmeYourlove,asYouhavelaiddown,AndYouhavemyagreement,myLord,thatIwillneverreturntowhatYoudislike,andmyguaranteethatIwillnotgobacktowhatYoudisapprove,andmypromisethatIwillgiveupallactsofdisobediencetoYou.oAllah,YouknowbetterwhatIhavedone,soforgivemewhatYouknow,andchangeme,byYourpower,towhatYoulove.OAllah,andonmeareobligations;someofwhichIremember,andsomeofwhichIhaveforgotten,whileallofthemarebeforeYoureyewhichdoesnotsleep,andYourknowledgewhichdoesnotforget,socompensatetheirowners,andremovetheirburdenfromme,lightentheirweightforme,andprotectmefromcommittingthemagain.OAllah,surelyIcannotbefaithfultomyrepentanceexceptwithYourprotection,norcanIrefrainfromoffensesexceptwithYourstrength,sostrengthenmewithasufficientstrength,andguardmewithapreventiveprotection.

OAllah,manyaservantrepentstoyou,whileinYourknowledgeoftheunseen,(Youknow)hewillbreakhisrepentance,andreturntohissinandevildeeds,butIseekrefugeinYouthatIshouldbelikethat.Somakethisrepentanceofmine,arepentanceafterwhichIwillneednorepentance,andarepentancewhichwillcause;theerasingofwhathaspassedandsafetyinwhatremains.OAllah,Iaskpardonformyignorance,andIaskYoutodisregardmyevildeeds.Therefore,admitmetotheshelterofYourmercy,throughYourgrace,andcovermewithYourwellbeing,throughYourfavour.OAllah,IrepenttoYoufromeverythingthatopposesYourwill,orremovesYourlove,ofthethoughtsofmyheart,glancesofmyeye,andtheutterancesofmytongue.arepentancethroughwhicheverybodypartwillremainsafeinitself,fromYourpunishment,andbesafefromwhatthetransgressorsfearofYourpainfulpunishment.OAllah,sohavemercyon:mybeingalonebeforeYou,thepoundingofmyheartinYourfear,andthetremblingofmylimbsinYourawe.MyLord,mysinshaveplacedmeinadisgracefulpositioninYourpresence.IfIremainsilent,noonewillspeakonmybehalf,andifIseekintercession,Iamnotworthyofit.

OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,LetYourgenerosityintercedeformyoffenses,ReturnmyevildeedswithYourpardon,DonotrepaymewiththepunishmentIdeserve,SpreadovermeYourgraciousness,WrapovermeYourcovering.Dountomethatwhichisdonebyagreat(person)whenahumbleservantpleadswithhim,andheismercifultohim.Orlikewhatwouldbedonebyarichmanwhenapoorslaveappearsbeforehim,soheraiseshim.OAllah,ThereisnoprotectorformebesidesYou,soletYourmightbemyprotector.AndthereisnointercessorformewithYou,soletYourgracebemyintercessor.Myoffenseshaveterrifiedme,soletYourpardonassureme.AllthatIhavespoken(inthisDu'a)is,notfromignoranceoftheevileffects(ofmydeeds),norfromforgetfulnessofmyobjectionableactsinthepastbutsothatYourheavenandwhatisinit,andYourearthandwhatisonit,mayheartheremorsethatIhaveexpressedtoYou,andtherepentancethroughwhichIhavesoughtYourshelter.

Thenperhapssomeofthemwillpitymyunfortunateposition,orfeelcompassionformyunfortunatecondition,sothatImaygetfromhim,aprayermoreworthyofbeinglistenedtowithYou,thanmyprayer,oranintercessionstrongerwithYou,thanmyintercession,throughwhichwillbemydeliverancefromYouranger,andmysuccessinwinningYourpleasure.

OAllah,ifremorseis(sufficient)repentanceinYoursight,thensurelyIamthemostremorseful.AndifthegivingupofdisobedienceisturningtoYou,thenIamthefirstofthosewhoturntoYou.Andifseekingofforgivenessremovesthesins,thensurelyIamofthosewhoseekYourforgiveness.OAllah,asYouhavecommandedrepentance,andguaranteedacceptance,asYouhaveurgedsupplication,andpromisedtoanswer,soblessMuhammadandhisfamily,andacceptmyrepentance,anddonotturnmebackdisappointedinYourmercy,forindeedYouaretheOft-Returningtothesinners,andthemercifultotheoffenderswhoturn(toYou).OAllah,

advancingtowardsexcellence,preferringgraciousnessavoidingcondemnation,beinggracioustotheundeserving,speakingthetruththoughdifficult,makinglittleofthegoodinmywordsanddeedsthoughitbemuch,andmakingmuchoftheevilinmywordsanddeedsthoughitbelittle.Perfecttheseformethrough,acontinousobedience,anattachmenttothecommunity,andbyrejectingthepeopleofinnovationandthosewhosewhoactontheirownopinions.

OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,Grantme,themostincreaseinYoursustenancewhenIamold,andYourstrongeststrengthwhenIamexhausted.Donotafflictmewith,lazinessinYourworship,blindnessfromYourpath,indulginginwhatiscontraryto(winning)Yourlove,joiningonewhohasseparatedhimselffromYou,andseparatingfromonewhohasjoinedhimselftoYou.OAllahmakeme,runtowardsYouintimesofstressandaskfromYouintimesofneed,andpleadtoYouintimesofpoverty.

Donottrymewith,seekinghelpfromotherthanYouwhenIamdistressedhumblingmyselfinaskingotherthanYouwhenIaminneednorpleadingwithotherthanYouwhenIamafraid.LestIshoulddeserveYourabandonment,Yourdenial,andYourturningaway,Omostmerciful.OAllah,makewhatShaytanthrowsintomyheart,ofdesires,suspicion,andenvy,be(acauseof)remembranceofYourmightponderingoverYourpower,andaplanningagainstYourenemy.Makewhathe(shaytan)makesmeutter,ofindecent,andobscenewords,revilingagoodreputation,falseevidencespeakingillofanabsentbeliever,orabusingonewhoispresent,andothersimilarthings,(letallthis)beaspeechinYourpraise,anabsorptioninglorifyingYou,anexcursioninmagnifyingYou

OAllahblessMuhammadandhisfamily.makemeenjoymoderation,placemeamong;thepeopleofrightbehaviour,guidestorightconduct,andtherighteousservants.Providemewithvictoryatthereturnandsafetyfromthe?.OAllah,taketoYourself,frommysoulwhatwillpurifyit.Andleaveformysoulthatofmysoulwhichwillsetitright,forsurely,mysoulwillperishunlessYouprotectit.OAllah,YouaremyshelterwhenIamsad,Youaremyrecourse,ifIamdeprived,withYouIseekhelpwhenIamtroubled,andwithYouisasubstituteforwhatisgoneby,acorrectionforwhathasgonewrong,andachangeforwhatYoudisapprove.Sobekindtomeby;wellbeingbeforeafflictionbountybeforeaskingandrightconductbeforemisguidance.Sufficemeagainsttheburdenofshametotheservantsandgrantmesafetyonthedayofreturn,andfavourmewiththebestofguidance.OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,wardaway(evil)fromme,byYourgentleness,feedmethroughYourfavour,reformmethroughYourgenerosity,healmethroughYourgoodnessshademeinYourshelter,andwrapmeinYourplasure.

OAllah,grantmewhatIseek,throughYourpower,andprotectmefromwhatIfear,throughYourmight.OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,guardmyface(honour)throughprosperity,donotdisgracemydignitythroughneediness,lestIseekprovidencefromthosewhomYouhaveprovided,andaskforbestowalfromtheworstofYourcreatures.ThenIwouldbetemptedtppraisehewhogaveme,andafflictedwithblaminghewhodeniesme,whileYou,notthey,aretheMasterofgivinganddenying.OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,providemewithsoundnessinworshipanddetachmentinrenunciationknowledgeinpractiseandpiety,onthewhole.OAllah,sealmytermwithYourpardonverifymyhopeinexpectingYourmercy,easemypathtoreachYourpleasure,andmakemyactionsgoodinallcircumstances.OAllah,blessMuhammadandhisfamily,alertmetoYourremembranceintimesofnegligence,employmeinYourobedienceinthedaysofrespite,clarifyformeaneasypathtoYourloveandcompleteforme,throughthisthegoodoftheworldandthehereafter.
