    A rchitecture Overview

Epicor Portal Content Installation Guide 3

    Architecture Overview

Introduction This section gives an overview of the content pack architecture and site

    configuration.

    Server

    Server application

    components

This content pack requires several server applications.

    The core applications are:

    Epicor Portal.

Epicor Service Connect (runtime only or with Workflow Designerif you are creating your own updateable views). Portal updatable viewsare hooked up to shipped Service Connect workflows to update data.

Epicor application server with web services installed.

You may wish to expose the Portal views as SharePoint web parts. Inthis case you would need aMicrosoft SharePoint server.

You have options for installing these server applications on their own

server computers or combining applications on server computers.

    Portal server and

    Service Connect on

    same computer or

    separate computers

The Epicor Portal server computer and the Service Connect server can

be on the same computer or on separate computers. If you are trying to

conserve server computers, these two applications are good candidates

to run on the same server.

Epicor server The Epicor application and its database are generally on their own

    servers.

    Interactions withother applications

If Windows SharePoint Services is in use on the same server, note thatSharePoint and Epicor Portal must be installed to different web sites

(each with its own port number).
