Once again the goal is to provide the resources and tools that will aid the patient in a better understanding of the way the medicine works and how it should be taken. This should be very beneficial to the recently diagnosed Parkinson patient, and get them off on the right foot when it comes to the importance of taking medications as prescribed and on time. In Med Management 102 Chris will arrange to hold a session which will be individualized for the patient, focusing on that persons specific needs and goals. He can also arrange through Community Pharmacy for prescription delivery to your home, Concierge Pharmacist, and other Medication Management Therapy through their two locations. This type of service is perfect for the Parkinson patient who needs additional help in staying on the medication regimen that is prescribed by the Physician, and allows for follow - up to make sure that the program is working and the patient is benefitting from the Meds. There is also a benefit to anyone who participates in Med Management 2, and uses Your Community Pharmacy as their main pharmacy. Dopamine Management-The Evolving Land-

scape of Parkinson’s Disease. ( An Educational

Luncheon Sponsored by Teva Neuroscience)

On Saturday, January 24, Teva Neuroscience hosted a

luncheon for 30 participants featuring an open discussion

about Dopamine Management and it’s vital importance in the

management of Parkinson’s Disease. (The Guest Speaker,

Colleen Knoop, NP, with the University of Louisville

Movement Disorder Clinic and seen above with Teva

Representative David Green.)

One startling fact in the afternoon of information, keyed on

research that early diagnosis is vital, with findings revealing

many cases where as much as 80% of dopamine levels may

be lost by the time a treatment is launched.

Much audience discussion centered around medications such

as Azilect, and the treatment of the varied Parkinson’s

symptoms, with an almost non-stop question and answer

session handled deftly and thoroughly by NP Knoop. There

was some discussion about the future of treatment and what

lies ahead in research. Knoop did urge participants to search

out and participate in research studies that are being planned

for the future. The event was hosted at Embassy Suites.

HR 676 simply put, is “The Single Payer Healthcare Solution” for Americans. Dr.

Harmer calls it “the Expanded and Improved Medicare for All”.

She says that Legislation passed in 2010 under the Affordable Care Act does not go

far enough to reform our nation’s health care system. In 2013, more than 40 million

people were uninsured. When the Affordable Care Act is fully implemented, the

Congressional Budget Office predicts that there will still be 30 million who will lack

coverage.

Jill speaks out for Kentuckians for Single Payer Healthcare, a coalition of individuals

and organizations in support of HR 676, officially titled “The Expanded and Improved

Medicare for All Act.” She maintains that passage of this legislation will provide

comprehensive universal and affordable health care under a single payer, nonprofit

system.

The legislation would also:

Replace private insurance companies with a single, streamlined public agency

that will pay all medical claims (much the way Medicare works for seniors now).

Monies going to corporate administrative costs and profits will go instead for

needed care.

Cover everyone and remain with the individual if their job is lost, they move, or

retire. Everyone may also retain their own doctors and eliminate premiums by

being publicly funded, being truly universal and there for everyone when they

need them.

For more information, go the organization’s website: www.kyhealthcare.org, or

www.pnhp.org, or contact the Center at 502-254-3388.

SINGLE PAYER NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE

Dr. Jill Harmer was a practicing Clinical Psychologist. She taught

students at IU Southeast and at Jefferson Community College. Jill

was a AA Tennis Player and world-class swimmer before she

became ill. Now she is working toward passage of HR 676.
