Practicing independent life

For students with special needs it is very important to start practicing independent life when they are students. Their families also need guidance, support and experience when guiding disabled people in their independent life.

The support of the

social network has remarkable effect on individual having strength and staying in the job in the open labour market. The aim is to have an equal employer who uses normal services.

Moon-activity

Activity, which is planned individually and supports both independence and having strength enough to work.

When students are 12 years old (in Kauhava), they can join Moon activity. Teachers evaluation is important. The support of the parents is also needed.

An example from job assistants education:Test your attitude

Do you accept people with disability? Would you greet a neighbour, who is a pwd? Would you open the door when needed? Would you answer the question by a pwd?

Page 33: Supported employment association 7.6.2011

Would you help a blind person to choose the right route?

Would you pick up a person who has fell?

Would you pour coffee to the pwd’s cup also?

Page 34: Supported employment association 7.6.2011

Do you believe that

people with disabilities are nice people also?

Would you advice a colleague when he/she asks you to?

Would you pay salary to a pwd for well performed job?

Page 35: Supported employment association 7.6.2011

If you answered yes to the

most questions, you are very positive and open towards people with disabilities. You are helpful and progressive person! Great! The world needs people just like you. You are a supporter of equality and love for one’s neighbour above all.

So, what could stop you to be a colleague of a pwd? Or what could stop you to hire a pwd to work at your company?
