Diocese had an afternoon at OTEN touring
the facilities and learning about what OTEN
can offer their students. Presentations were
given by Lyn Hope (OTEN TVET Consult-
ant), Connie Fraser (OTEN HSC Co-
ordinator) and Veronica Ryan (OTEN Inter-
national Students). The group was shown
the process of how OTEN produce their
learning materials right through to how we
support the students through their course.
The tour was organised by Carol Amorim
from Catholic Education Office.

240hr & 360hr courses avail-able
Cert III achieved through 360hr course over 2 years
Covers personal care and ac-tivities for people with a dis-ability
Work placement
240hr—35 hours total 360hr—70 hours total
CERTIFICATE III CHILDREN’S SERVICES
240hr, 360hr, 420hr & 480hr courses available
Cert III achieved through 480hr course over Year 11 & Year 12
Study of 420hr course over 2 years gives stu-dents the ‘core’ units required to apply for the Diploma of Children’s Services after their HSC. Currently the government is subsidising the fees for the Diploma so the student may be able to continue their study for free.
Students can gain employment as an untrained childcare worker with Cert III.
OTEN teachers are now looking at the progress of their students in view to making recommendations for this year’s Australian Vocational Student Prize. The criteria for selection is:
Yr 12 student
Completing a TVET course at least Cert II level
Outstanding vocational & employability skills; high achievements; determination; commit-
ment.
Australian citizen or permanent resident
Successful students will receive $2000 each.
We will contact the school to suggest students for nomina-
tions. Nominations close 4 December.

studied Business Services as a school-based trainee and has
now been offered a position with the ANZ bank.

Lyn Hope is now the TVET Consultant
at OTEN. Cathy Ryan had done a
wonderful job for 5 years in the role
but is now IT Industry Officer for TAFE,
Western Sydney Institute, still based at
OTEN.
Therese Hocking was in the role for
Term 2 but unfortunately had to give
up the position due to ill health.

The 2010 TVET@OTEN Course Guide
is on its way to more than 900
schools, school administration staff
and TAFE colleges. We apologise for
the delay in getting the Course Guide
out to you but hope you find it help-
ful in assisting your students to select
their TVET courses for Years 11 & 12.
The guide lists all TVET courses and
school based traineeships available
through OTEN in 2010.
Already OTEN has received 100 en-
rolments for next year and we will be
enrolling these students from the 1st
December.
Enrolments for Yr 11 or Yr 12 can be
submitted up until the end of March,
2010.
Copies of the enrolment form are
available in the Course Guide or from
the OTEN website.

OTEN
OTEN’s TVET students had some
great results in the 2008 HSC.
Accounting students were the
most successful with 6 receiving a
Band 6 and also 6 with a Band 5.
This is a very good result out of
120 accounting students.
Business Services had 3 Band 5
students.
Tourism 1 Band 6 and 2 Band 5’s.
Retail 3 Band 5’s and Information
Technology received 1 Band 5.
