PierPaoloFranzeseisaProfessorofEcologyattheDepartmentofScienceandTechnologyofParthenopeUniversityofNaples,Italy.

HegraduatedwithhonoursinEnvironmentalSciences(marine-oceanographiccurriculum)in 2002. In 2006, he achievedthe international title of Ph.D.in “Crop Systems, Forestry,andEnvironmentalScience”withlabelofDoctorEuropaeus.

Over the last fifteen years his research and teaching activities have been focused onenvironmental accounting and environmental assessment, and their application to thedevelopmentofanecosystemapproachforstudyinghuman-environmentinteractions.

Always striving for the application of a system-based and interdisciplinary approach toscience,hismainresearchinterestisfocusedontheanalysisofmaterialandenergyflowssupportingecosystems,industry,andsociety,withthegoalofinvestigatingandimprovingtheirenvironmentalperformanceandsustainability.

Prof. Franzese is founderMember and Secretary of the International Ph.D. Programme“Environment,ResourcesandSustainableDevelopment”hostedatParthenopeUniversityof Naples where he also founded and directs the Laboratory of Ecodynamics andSustainableDevelopment.

HeisSubjectEditoroftheElsevierjournalEcologicalModelling.Inaddition,heisSubjectEditor of the scientific journal Ecological Questions (NCU) andMember of the EditorialBoards of the following international journals: Energy, Ecology and Environment(Springer),andJournalofEnvironmentalAccountingandManagement(L&H).

HeisPresident-electoftheInternationalSocietyfortheAdvancementofEmergyResearch(ISAER) and Coordinator of the NationalWorking Group on “natural capital, ecosystemservices,andenvironmentalaccounting”oftheItalianSocietyofMarineBiology.

Elvira Buonocore is a Post-Doc researcher at the Department of Science and Technology ofParthenopeUniversityofNaples,Italy.

Shegraduatedcumlaudein“EnvironmentalSciences”in2009.In2013,sheachievedthetitleofPh.D.in“Environment,ResourcesandSustainableDevelopment”.

Her research is focused on environmental accounting and assessment applied to natural andhuman-drivensystems.Inparticular,hermainresearchinterestsandfieldsofexpertisearenaturalcapital and ecosystem services assessment in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, natureconservation, renewable energy sources and bioenergy, emergy accounting and life cycleassessment.
