Windows The Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface can display one or more windows. These windows display

different kinds of information; 2-dimensional maps, 3-dimensional maps, and flight data tables are just

some of the windows that you might see in Symphony EnvironmentalVue.

Window Controls

In Microsoft Windows, each window contains controls in the upper right corner of the window (Figure 3).

Figure 3: Window Controls

The various window control icons that you might see are described in Table 1.

Table 1: Window Control Icons

Icon Description

Floats the window. A floating window is a window that can be moved

and resized. Floating windows enable you to change the position and

size of the window freely.

Docks the window. When windows are initially displayed on the

Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface, they are docked. A docked

window is a window that cannot be freely moved around the

Symphony EnvironmentalVue interface or resized. If you attempt to

move a docked window, Symphony EnvironmentalVue will move the

window back to a fixed position.

Minimizes the window to a tab control. You may want to hide

windows that you don't frequently use, but still want the ability to

access quickly.

Toggles the window's auto-hide.

Temporarily removes the window from view.

Figure 110: Gate Penetration Chart

To view the gate penetration chart:

1. View the flights that penetrated the gate. Refer to page 63.

2. Select Vues > Gate Penetration Chart. The Gate Penetration Chart window displays.

The chart plots the altitude and distance along the plane of the gate at which flights penetrated the gate.

The colors used on the chart are the same as those used to represent the flight tracks and will vary

depending on whether you're coloring the flight tracks by operation or propulsion.

The markers used on the chart indicates the flight's direction through the plane of the gate.

Marker Description

In to gate

Out from gate

Whether flights are flying in to or out from the gate is based on how the gate was created. For example, if

the first point created for a gate is on the west, and the second point is created east of the first point, the

front of the gate would be the side of the gate seen when approaching from the south. Flights penetrating

the gate from the south will be flying in to the gate (Figure 111).

ANALYSIS TOOLS

Creating an Average Track EnvironmentalVue enables you to generate an average track so that you can see where the bulk of flights

are going. By using flight data over a period of time, the average track represents the average of all flights

arriving to or departing from a specific airport and runway.

To generate an average track:

1. Select Tools > Analysis > Create Average Track. The Create Average Track window displays.

Figure 126: Create Average Track

2. In the Name field, enter an identifier for the average track.

3. From the Airport list, select the airport for which you'd like to generate the average track.

4. From the Rwy list, select the airport's runway for beginning the average track.

5. Select the type of operation (i.e., arrivals or departures).

6. Select the runway position (i.e., start, midpoint, or end).

7. In the Track Length field, enter the length of the average track.

8. In the Point Spacing field, enter the distance between points on the average track.

9. In the Altitude Cutoff field, enter the altitude at which flights will no longer be included in the

average track.

Page 116: Symphony EnvironmentalVue User's Guide...Jan 24, 2020  · Last Updated: January 24, 2020 L3Harris Technologies, Inc. 2235 Monroe Street Herndon, Virginia 20171-2824

10. If you would like to have the track density calculated:

a. Check the Density checkbox.

b. If you would like, change the color of the density.

c. In the # STDs field, enter the number of standard deviations to show whether the flights

are actually following the average path, or if there is a large deviation in their trajectories.

The standard deviations is calculated for every point along the track and the width is

shown perpendicular to the direction of the track at the given point. The setting is for the

half width of the track, or the width to one side. For example, setting the # STDs to 1

would generate a width of 1 standard deviation to each side of the average track, giving

you a total width of 1 standard deviations from side to side.

11. To change the color of the average track's line, click the track color icon and select the color.

12. Click Create. The average track displays on both the 2D and 3D map. A line with the selected

color for the average track also displays in the Profile View Chart. A row is also added to the

Average Track table.

13. If you would like to regenerate the average track after filtering out flights or downloading a

different set of data, right-click the average track in the Average Track Table and select Evaluate

Average Track.

If an average track is loaded from the workspace, it will only contain the settings that were used

to create it. In order to display the average track on the map, it must be evaluated on the currently

downloaded flight tracks in the system. To do this, right-click the track in the Average Track

Table and select Evaluate Average Track.

Filtering Data You may filter the data displayed in the SmartTable to show only those flights that meet your criteria. The

simple filter is useful when you are trying to locate flights with a single, specific column value. For

example, flights with a DEST equal to KLGA.

To filter data in the SmartTable:

1. Cursor over the column that you'd like to filter. Notice that a filter icon displays to the right of the

column header.

2. Click the filter control icon (Figure 220).

Figure 220: SmartTable Filter

The dropdown displays a list of all unique values in the selected column.

3. To filter on one of the values, select the value from the list. The SmartTable updates to show only

those flights that meet the selected filter.

To remove the filter and display all flights, expand the filter dropdown and

select All.

Creating a Custom Filter For more complex searches you can create a custom filter to locate the fights that you are interested in.

To create a custom filter:

1. Cursor over the column that you'd like to filter. Notice that a filter icon displays to the right of the

column header.

2. Click the filter control icon.

3. Select (Custom…). The Custom Filter window displays for the selected column.

4. Select the condition that you would like to apply from the Condition dropdown (Figure 221).

Figure 221: Custom Filter Condition Dropdown

5. After you select the Condition, the Values field displays. You may either type the values for your

condition in the field or expand the dropdown and check the values.

A few important notes about custom filters:

• Filters are case-sensitive. "KJFK" is not the same as "kjfk".

• When specifying multiple values for a filter, you must separate each

value with a semi-colon (;) and space (KATL; KMIA; KEWR)

6. Click OK. The filter is applied and the SmartTable displays data that meets the specified filter.

7. Repeat steps 1-6 for each column that you wish to apply a filter to.

8. If you have applied a filter to more than one column, you will need to select the Column Filter

Mode from the dropdown located in the lower left of the SmartTable. There are two different

modes:

Page 199: Symphony EnvironmentalVue User's Guide...Jan 24, 2020  · Last Updated: January 24, 2020 L3Harris Technologies, Inc. 2235 Monroe Street Herndon, Virginia 20171-2824

• AND: The row is included only if all column filters are met. For example, if one filter is

RUNWAY is 27 and another filter is DEST is BOS, only those rows that meet the RUNWAY

column filter and the DEST column filter are returned.

Figure 222: Example of AND Filter Applied

Symphony EnvironmentalVue v3.1 User’s Guide SmartTables

• OR: The row is included if any of the column filters are met. Using the example above, rows

that meet either filter are returned. The rows do not have to meet all column filters.

Figure 223: Example of OR Filter Applied

By default, all flight tracks and noise event sites that met the query filters are displayed on the map. This

is indicated by the "# items visible and will be filtered" text that displays above the table (Figure 225).

Figure 225: Number of Items Visible

To filter what is displayed on the map:

1. Select the Filter checkbox beside the items you would like to display on the map. When you

check rows in the table, the label changes to indicate how many rows are checked (Figure 226).

Figure 227: Apply Filters

The Check Visible Rows button selects the Filter checkbox for all rows that are currently displayed in

the table. This is useful for situations where you have applied a column filter to the table and want the

option to toggle between displaying only rows that meet your column filter on the map by clicking the

Apply Filter button, and displaying all rows in the table on the map by clicking the Clear Filters button.

The Uncheck Visible Rows button unselects the Filter checkbox for those rows that are currently

displayed. The Uncheck All Rows button unselects all rows, including those rows that are currently not

visible.

The Remove Non-Visible Items removes rows that are currently hidden from the table. You'd need to re-

run the query to include the original rows from the result set back in the table.
