Enterprises are faced with a growing need for higher bandwidth coupled with highflexibility in their infrastructures to support such applications as Storage Area Networks,Network Attached Storage, and high performance computing.

Data Centers (DCs), in particular, are an important application for high performanceconnectivity. Organizations are building DCs to offer high performance server hosting, data storage and secure, redundant business backup. These centers are devoted toproviding a secure and reliable environment for large numbers of application serversand storage devices. With extreme service reliability being a trademark of theseinstallations, DCs must be addressed with high quality cabling solutions that allow high-density and ease of use and deployment.

Infrastructure solutions must allow for:

• Operational reliability

• Quick changes, including additions and rapid expansion

• High performance with migration path to future technologies

• High-density

• Cost effective deployment and installation

When evaluating cost effectiveness of solutions, always think in terms of cost over the lifeof the infrastructure, rather than only the initial installation cost. The lowest product cost isnot always the most effective solution in the long run. Choose the right system the first time.

Data center considerations should include the following:

• Initial installation cost: ensuring it covers adequately the specification to avoid unwantedextras and performance restrictions

• Administration: the network’s ability to be easily and inexpensively reconfigured

• Future: the ability to support ever increasing bandwidth and data rates in the future

• Maintenance: the effort required to keep the system operating

• Life cycle value: the assurance of a warranty covering the applications and hardware

CommScope, through its SYSTIMAXbrand, has pioneered the developmentof intelligent data center solutions thatoffer real-time efficiencies, positivelyimpacting network security, ITproductivity and ultimately, businesssuccess. By implementing theseintelligent solutions, enterprises canincrease network uptime, improveinfrastructure management and monitornetwork connections, allowingenterprises to more efficiently manageand safeguard its most valuable asset –information.

The drivers for data center fiber opticconnectivity include:

• A need to efficiently migrate to speedsabove 1 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s

• A need to quickly and easily configurework group networks (especially in datacenters)

• A need to most efficiently supportmultiple connectivity technologies(Single-mode/Multimode, LC/SC/ST)

• High security, high electromagnetic field, high lightning strike, or corrosiveenvironments

• High density, installation-time sensitiveenvironments

• Large, overcrowded cabinets and racks

• A need to increase control over networkoperations

• A need to reduce recurring operationalcosts

The Solution to Data Center OpticalInfrastructure NeedsCommScope, through its SYSTIMAX brand, brings the ultimate in fiber optic technologyto the Enterprise customer. CommScope’s40-year heritage in fiber optic solutionsenables us to deliver a complete portfolioof products for the physical layer of thenetwork. CommScope supports thedeployment of multimode and/orsinglemode fiber in the backbonesegments of data centers, with it’sTeraSPEED® ZWP single-mode LazrSPEED®

laser-optimized multimode andOptiSPEED® multimode solutions.

SYSTIMAX® InstaPATCH®

Plus Fiber System The SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH Plus Systemfeatures a high density, factory terminated, factory tested, modular fiber connectivitysolution that allows installers to simply andquickly connect system componentstogether. This modular system approachenables up to 96 fibers to be ready forservice in the time it takes to make a singlefiber connection with traditional systems.

Developed by CommScope Labs, theInstaPATCH® Plus System is designed tosupport locations, such as data centers, thatrequire high-density, rapid deployment andhigh performance. The InstaPATCH® PlusSystem incorporates SYSTIMAX LazrSPEEDmultimode, OptiSPEED multimode andTeraSPEED single-mode fiber technologiesto support today’s most demandingapplications, while allowing easy migrationto the next generation technology.

The InstaPATCH® Plus System includespre-terminated hardware, pre-terminatedbackbone trunk cables, ruggedized MPO-single fiber fanout patch cords, array cordsand standard fiber patch cords. TheInstaPATCH® Plus System utilizes onecommon module, one common ruggedfanout, one common array cord andstandard fiber patch cords, and retains thefull benefits of easy installation and systemadministration, while maintaining a futureupgrade path to parallel connectivity. Nospecial polarity components are required. Moreover, the InstaPATCH® Plus Systemfeatures an improved labeling system thatis accurate and logical when positioned infour orientations, affording more flexibility indesign, installation, and application.

The InstaPATCH® Plus pre-terminatedhardware is offered in two configurations. The high-density series featurespre-terminated 96 LC, 48 LC and 48 SCmodules with up to twice the density oftraditional modules. High-density modulescan be mounted into G2 1U shelves whichprovide slack storage for trunk cable andcable entry features for strain relief. Themodular series features interchangeable 24and 12-fiber LC, and 12-fiber SC and STmodules in two distinct mountingarrangements to provide design andservice flexibility.

Pre-terminated with MPO connectors andoffered in customer-specified lengths, theInstaPATCH® Plus backbone trunk cablesare offered in 12-, 24-, 48-, 72-, 96-, and144-fibers. Solutions supported:

• LazrSPEED 550

• LazrSPEED 300

• LazrSPEED 150

• OptiSPEED

The SYSTIMAX InstaPATCH® Plus System isdesigned to simplify the selection, designand deployment of the fiber opticinfrastructures required in data centerenvironments. To optimize product selection, consider the following project requirements, then follow the simple ‘1-2-3’ steps todetermine the system that fits your needs.

To determine which of the SYSTIMAXInstaPATCH® Plus Systems is best for you,the following requirements should beconsidered:

The cabling architectures that arecommonly used for data center structuredcabling systems, require a mix of high-density, high reliability, high performance, with flexible design guidelines, speed ofinstallation, future-ready and easy to use.

The following must be considered andprioritized:
